Josh Allen is a popular name in NFL circles these days. Not only did Josh Allen the Wyoming quarterback go seventh to the Buffalo Bills in this year’s draft, Josh Allen the Kentucky outside linebacker is projected to be a first round pick in next year’s draft. It’s not every day that you have two players of similar caliber with the same name, so Sports Illustrated’s Chris Chavez reached out to the Josh Allen who plays at Kentucky to talk about it.
“It wasn’t too long before last year’s SEC Media Day,” Allen said of when he discovered Josh Allen the Wyoming quarterback. “Two weeks before that, I was Googling myself and he popped up. I was like, “What the heck?” and then I was running through his page. This was before he became the star that he is now. I was like ‘Dang.’ I reached out to him on Instagram and started talking to him. We became friends after that.”
Allen said people confuse him with the other Allen on an everyday basis, which made things especially awkward when the Wyoming quarterback was mentioned as a possible No. 1 overall pick. He’s even picked up Twitter and Instagram followers who think he’s Josh Allen the quarterback despite the fact that they’re different races. D’oh.
Shoutout to Chavez for giving our Josh Allen the chance to tell his own story about how a visit from Kentucky’s coaches to his high school helped turn him from a Monmouth commit to a potential first round pick. That one never gets old.
