Kentucky receiver Zy’Aire Hughes arrested on assault charges

Fayette County Detention Center

Kentucky football receiver Zy’Aire Hughes was arrested and booked on Sunday morning.

According to official arrest records, Hughes was charged with fourth degree assault with “minor injury.” The incident reportedly happened on Woodland Avenue in Lexington.

The state of Kentucky classifies a fourth-degree arrest charge as the following:

(1) A person is guilty of assault in the fourth degree when:
(a) He intentionally or wantonly causes physical injury to another person; or
(b) With recklessness he causes physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon or a dangerous instrument.
(2) Assault in the fourth degree is a Class A misdemeanor.

The University of Kentucky says they are still gathering information on the arrest before taking any action.

“We are aware of the situation and we are still gathering information,” said UK spokeswoman Susan Lax, via the Herald-Leader.

We will update this story as more information is released.

UPDATE: UK sent out this quote from Mark Stoops on the matter.

“We’re aware of the situation. We’re in the process of gathering information.  Proper behavior is an expectation of our program and we will address this as the facts are determined.”

Hate to see that for this kid. Seems like he had a lot of potential in the limited minutes he got in. Could’ve been a key weapon for next season.

I wouldn’t expect a 4th degree assault charge to cause him to be kicked off team

Sounds like he got in a fight and happen to win. Lol. They only take you to jail for that to calm down they say. Really it’s to get booking and release fee and give you a court date to go five times or more and pay court cost. Bunch of bull. Anyway they can get some money out of someone. Hahah
