It is official. Kentucky is headed to Orlando in a New Year Day’s matchup against the 12th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions in the Citrus Bowl at Camping World Stadium at 1:00 pm ET.
This is Kentucky’s first appearance in the Citrus Bowl, and it’s only the sixth time the Cats will take on the Nittany Lions. The last time Kentucky squared off against Penn State was 1999 in the Outback Bowl which resulted in a 26-14 Penn State victory that would later be vacated.
This is only the third time in school history Kentucky has gone to three straight bowl games. The other two times? The 50’s with Bear Bryant as the head coach and ten years ago when Rich Brooks lead Kentucky to four straight bowl games until Joker Phillips took over in 2010 after Brooks’ retirement following the 2009 Music City Bowl.
Kentucky will face a familiar foe across the sideline in former Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin. In his three years at Vandy, Franklin led them to three straight bowl berths and a 3-0 record against the dreadful Cats with a combined score of 100-14. This season Franklin has led the Penn State Nittany Lions to a 9-3 Record and third place in the Big Ten with quarterback Trace McSorley.
Tickets for the Citrus Bowl are starting at $51.00 on TicketMaster. Get in there, folks.
