Kentucky commit JJ Weaver visits Louisville

Despite committing to Kentucky just nine days ago, four-star defensive end commitment JJ Weaver took a visit to Louisville this afternoon.

The Moore High School product posted the following picture on his Instagram story:

He followed it up by saying “it’s a business decision,” only adding to the suspense:

According to Rivals’ Dave Lackford, however, Weaver is “100% committed to Kentucky” and only visited as a favor to Louisville athletic director Vince Tyra.

Sources tell KSR that Kentucky isn’t concerned with the visit and still feel “very good” about Weaver signing with the Cats.

If he’s making a “business decision,” he might want to look at what Mark Stoops has done with former two-star recruit Josh Allen. As a top-ten draft pick, the senior pass-rusher is going to be a very, very rich man this spring.

    Here we go again!

We shall see. Why in this world would anybody go to a broken program instead of an established program?

In the past people would just take visits to L for the drugs and prostitutes with no intention of going there. I actually just made that up. I’m sure it happened though

Strange what is going on right now..

Because he knows he’ll start IMMEDIATELY! Guaranteed!

Football recruiting is still so weird to me. Why commit and then continue visits? If you’re still going to do visits, don’t tell a school you’re going to go there. You obviously aren’t sure.

Also, if a player commits, why do other schools get to keep recruiting them?

It should be against NCAA rules

It’s a verbal commitment until signing day. Basically a promise

A lot of these kids take these visits just for the experience. You and your family get a trip paid for, treated like a superstar, etc. imagine being 18 and being offered all that attention, it’s gotta be fun. He may have even told UK there’s 0% chance he’s going there, but just wants a free trip on UL’s dime.

Free trip. They could walk there.

Agree because it doesnt work like this in basketball. When a player commits coaches respect that and dont continue to contact the player.

Pepperdine (Malibu), UCLA, or Miami are fun trips for a kid who hasn’t traveled much but 10 blocks away in Louisville is just… well I don’t know what the hell it is. I, too, can’t fathom why people “commit” then do visits. I get – I suppose – the late interest de-commit, to substantially upgrade ur choice when a blue chip comes calling late in the game, but this stuff just mystifies me. I’m confident we get him unless a family member turns up on the UL payroll. That would never happen in this “business” I’m sure, certainly not an upstanding group like U6.

It was tough losing 1 in-state 4 star, but possibly losing 2 would be crazy

Vince Tyra, AD and lead recruiter for UofL football.
Mission accomplished. Got him in the door. Sales pitch delivered. Seed planted.
If he doesn’t sign early, we’ll probably lose him.

He’ll never play meaningful snaps at UK in SEC football play. Screenshot this reply.

Actually it technically could be a recruiting violation if Tyra is his main off campus contact.

    1. kjd

Tyra has received credentials from NCAA to be recruiting.

If it was a ‘business decision’, he would NOT be visiting there….Bama, UGA, yes but not UL

Did Josh Allen ever commit to Monmouth, then change, or were we just late getting in but before he committed? I want to temper my righteous indignation if necessary…

    1. satcheluk

JA was committed to Monmouth. So wish all the hypocrites would STHU.
