Is Jarren Williams Matt’s mystery transfer? It sure sounds like it.
The four-star quarterback committed to Kentucky TWICE last year before having a change of heart and signing with Miami. Now, according to 247 Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, Williams is planning on transferring from The U.
Williams, the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the 2018 class, played in one game for Miami this year, completing a pass for 17 yards vs. Savannah State. He was still able to redshirt and will be eligible for the 2020 season.
If you go back and read Vince Marrow’s comments from today’s signing day press conference, maybe Williams is one of the recruits that regrets not being a part of Kentucky’s special season?
“I will tell you, some of the dudes we lost in the 2018 class and even the 2017 class, you’ll see them talking to some of our other players like, ‘Man, I knew we should have went there.’ They saw it, but they didn’t believe it.”
Marrow also mentioned how the program’s reputation in Georgia has changed since he went after a certain quarterback from the state a few years ago — cough, Williams, cough. (UPDATED with Marrow’s comments)
“Georgia is the number one state that really produces college football players right now and I think even pros. When you have success, you’re not looked at as a joke going in there. I’m telling you when I was recruiting a quarterback years ago, and I went in there and started taking over his recruitment, Kentucky was looked at as, ‘Why you want to go there if you’re from the South? Why do you want to go there? You’re going to skip over all of these schools to go to Kentucky?’ But, when you starting beating those schools. When you start beating South Carolina, Florida, Missouri and all of those schools, Mississippi State, well, oh, this is a school I really want to go to. That’s what happened with us in Georgia now. This kid [Travis Tisdale], reminds me of Boom Williams so much. He has some traits like him. I really think this kid is going to be a homerun. I’m very excited to see him play.”
And who could forget Marrow’s comments that more good news was coming?
“I think we just tell the BBN to stay tuned. I think there’s going to be some very interesting things coming and I’m very excited about it. Just be patient. This thing, Coach Stoops — we’ve got to keep going forward and keep adding pieces to this program. And I’m very excited…but I’m very excited. Very, very soon.”
