I’m already a fan of Shannon Dawson

Shannon Dawson is wrapping up his introductory press conference, and I’m already fascinated by the guy. Dawson is a Louisiana native and has one hell of an accent to go along with what seems to be a wicked sense of humor. Dawson started his presser by throwing a jab at his home state Tigers. “Excited about this place, obviously,” Dawson said. “I grew up in the South, in Baton Rouge. Want to beat those guys.” Well, alright then. Us too.

Dawson talked a lot about his variation of the Air Raid, which he says includes both passing and rushing. “You can be better throwing it if you run the ball better,” Dawson said. Dawson’s all about up-tempo, both on the field and off. He told reporters that after the West Virginia bowl game, he and his wife drove to Lexington, got insurance and a new house in about four hours. Phew. He hopes to get his entire family totally moved in after Signing Day, because, you know, priorities.

Nick Roush will be by in a bit with a full recap.

Drew, how many more days is it till football season? I know we are in the middle of possibly one of the best basketball season in NCAA history but I cant contain my excitement for the football team.

Also, what the chances of recruits from WV following him to UK?

I watched WV play in the bowl game. I know Dawson was “suggesting” plays and not calling them. But, if he patterns his play-calling after what they did at WV, I’m excited. They played an air raid style, but incorporated a good mixture of run and deep shots down the field along with the usual screen games and short / intermediate passes.

I think this is exactly what our offense needs, toughness.
