How Kentucky Will Fill the Final Spots in the 2018 Recruiting Class

Today Kentucky signed 20 new players, but there’s still room for Rivals’ No. 26 class to grow.  Mark Stoops expects about four more and a few could happen at any moment between now and Friday.

“Excuse me, I’m going to check my phone because I’m still waiting on a couple,” Stoops teased when he was asked about new additions.  “There’s some very good football players that we’re in pretty deep on, and we’ll go into February with several of the guys that we’ve already been recruiting and then several other guys where we’ll continue to poke around and find some new guys.”

Stoops isn’t necessarily searching for one specific position.  He wants to use the final spots to get the best players available.

“I feel like we hit on all of our needs.  I really do. I think you’re always hunting a defensive lineman, an offensive lineman, possibly a wide out.”  He added:  “I think linebacker is a need, and there’s some big-time guys out there that we have a chance at. I think getting the best players is most important.  I really feel like we hit a lot of needs between last year’s group and some young guys we have in this year’s.  I feel like we’re in pretty good position, but you’re always looking for the best players you can get.”

Vince Marrow has a confident strategy to fill the final spots.

“Probably 2013 you’d be begging for kids.  We’re to the point where we ain’t taking a backseat to nobody.  We want guys who want to be here,” Marrow said.

Seven weeks to find four or five more guys is a dream scenario for Marrow.

“I love those odds.  Let me just say this, you know how we recruit, so now you’re going to say we got seven weeks to zero in on four or five guys?  I like that, I like our odds.  We got some big-time guys out there that’s very close to signing today, and they got till Friday.  If they don’t sign I feel very confident that we’re going to land these guys.”

The players in Marrow’s immediate crosshairs are four-star Cincinnati linebackers Xavier Peters and Chris Oats. After that, it’s fair game.  We’ll see just how many home runs Marrow and Stoops can hit as they zero in on the final spots in the 2018 recruiting class.

You’ve got to run before you can sprint. We all want more but this is the best 5 year stretch of recruiting in UK history.

Georgia will own the SEC EAST for a long time. Three 5 star quarterbacks on the team after today.

Still have to play the game. Stars d trophies don’t mean shtick when you’re lining up to snap the ball. Where are the 5 stars? They’re all yesterday’s 1s and 0s.
