Let’s see how he does now that our defense won’t be as good next year.

    1. TheAssman

Agree…our defense gave Gran and his offense a place to hide a lot of times this past season. He’s gonna’ have to bring it (if he’s got it) next season.

    2. shepdog3720

Our front 7 will be as good as most in the SEC. If Paschal is fully healthy and ready to go, which is almost certain, the D should be just fine. Secondary will have to grow up fast, but the talent is there.

    3. bwise

Completely agree, finally someone with some sense. GOOD LUCK EDDIE

    4. KYCat4EVER

      SPOT ON!

    5. lawdog1

I am not going to say Gran is a master OC but 10 and 3 and a win over Penn State in a bowl game is impressive by any teams standard. I like the fact he has taken up the challenge to stay at KY. That says a lot because he would have more talent at GA to work with. Looks like Gran wants to prove his detractors wrong. Regardless, it is mid B ball season and I am talking football. Strange times we live in.

    6. ThankfulCat

Been confirmed that Gran was NOT offered by UGA

Well played by Eddie and his agent

    7. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

      SOURCE???

    8. ThankfulCat

Rusty Mansell on 24/7 sports that covers UGA

  2. jaws2

If CEO Stoops let’s Gran loose, we’ll be glad he stayed. Now, go get us an SEC caliber QB!!!

    1. krautdog

AMEN! Stoops better thank God for a LARGE favor because he’s a “lost ball in the high weeds” without Gran!

  3. bigblue2284

Lol of course, I told all blue koolaid drinkers this year was an anomaly.

  4. big cat

OLD NEWS. You KSR clowns are bored

  5. ukkatzfan

    Yes !!! Yes !!! Yes !!!

  6. bigbluebanana

Aside from how you feel about Gran, or whether or not we argue a lot on this site…does anyone else think this was a story created by KSR? The site Drew posted earlier confirming MJ’ report literally only cited MJ as the only source. Ant their sources said they could say that Gran was likely spoken to by UGA, but that an “offer” was an overstatement. Should I remove my tinfoil hat?

    1. ClairsyDarsiy

      Thank You, Coach Gran!

    2. ibescootch

What in the word are you talking about? Gran literally just tweeted that he’s staying at Kentucky. Did KSR hack his Twitter?!

    3. bigbluebanana

I mean, if someone spread a rumor I was leaving my job, and it wasn’t true, I’d go out and state I wasn’t going anywhere. There have been dozens and dozens of false reports for coaching moves that weren’t true and the coach in question had to publicly state they weren’t going anywhere. There’s literally not one, single source other than KSR who said Gran was offered the job…not one! Even the site Drew linked to confirm the offer said that Gran was only spoken to and that an “offer” was an overstatement.

    4. ukkatzfan

Maybe look at Grans tweets ?

    5. bigbluebanana

Did he confirm the offer ukkatzfan? Or did he simply state that he was all in on UK? To me, that doesn’t indicate that he was offered anything, only that he was all in with his current job. Coaches get false rumors of them leaving all the time, the first thing they do is make a statement via somewhere stating that they’re staying put.

    6. Blue Bill

Uh, I guess SBNation made it up too ?

    7. bigbluebanana

      Link?

    8. bigbluebanana

Actually blue bill, I looked it up myself. They only mention Gran as a candidate. Unless you can show me a different article. I’ve googled every article that states Gran was offered the job, EVERY SINGLE ONE IF THEM list Matt Jones and KSR as the source.

    9. N-UR-i

Every source WILL site KSR because they broke the story. It is called etiquette.

    10. bigbluebanana

I get that nuri, but absolutely no one else has confirmed this. The closest thing was a site stating they were confident Gran spoke with UGA, but that an offer wasn’t really the case.

    11. michaelb

Yeah why would someone from Georgia tell only matt that? Matt didn’t even know our players names till half way through this year . He never has really cared about uk football till now . He struck out a few times with these fake transfers . I think he’s just trying to thrust some spotlight on him . There’s no reprocussions for being wrong so why not say that ?

    12. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

I don’t know about a KSR conspiracy, but I can definitely believe his agent called UK and said “Hey, GA’s interested in Gran. Pony up” (but I have no idea if that happened either obviously). Jimmy Sexton did that when Arkansas wanted to hire Malzahn.

  7. Bobbum Man

I like how suddenly everyone loves Eddie gran…. I don’t get it, I understand his qbs haven’t been amazing but the playcalling was stale, predictable and won’t win us many games especially without the defense we’re losing… will be a big test for him this season without that defense behind him, we’ll see what he’s made of but I don’t have high hopes.

    1. Bobbum Man

That being said, if this is actually true and an offer was actually made then it speaks volumes about him. I still haven’t really seen anything about him receiving an offer aside from this “source”

    2. jaws2

Never said I didn’t like Gran. Stoops is the CEO of UK football and has held Gran’s play calling back. If Mr smash mouth football doesn’t change, Gran will always be the scapegoat. Always.

    3. Bobbum Man

And there could be truth to that.. and I didn’t mean u specifically, just that everyone… ksr included knocked on him pretty good all year and now it’s all how great he is cause Georgia May or may not have offered… we’ll probably never know how much is him or how much is stoops but yes if his playcalling continues the same as it’s always been (it almost certainly will) than yes he’s going to continue to be the scape goat

    4. TheAssman

      Agree!

  8. big cat

Next headline. Kyler Murray considering transfer to UK…..ughhh possibly? Maybe, I wish? Just for fun? Can we ask?

    1. ukjaybrat

      Jalen hurts lol

  9. BluKudzu

Thinking we need to head up to OSU and check out the QB that is wanting to transfer……

  10. UKantstopus

Put aside your feeling about Gran and realize, we just kept a football coach who was offered by Georgia…. That says something about the state of our football team.. I think it so speaks loudly to the commitment of coach Gran to Stoops and UK football… Just trying to put this in perspective…

    1. bigbluebanana

Matt Jones is literally the only person who said UGA offered him. Even the site that KSR tried to use as verifying their own report said that the term “offer” was an overstatement.

    2. CATandMONKEY

Jones didn’t make up the offer.
      Come on.

    3. bigbluebanana

I’m just asking for a source other than MJ and KSR. I can’t find one article online that doesn’t list MJ as the source. If I’m wrong, I’ll eat crow for sure, but no one has quoted anyone other than KSR as the source.

  11. maximumscott

He turned down GEORGIA that was offering the same position with more money and he stayed. LOYALTY.

  12. big cat

The NCAA should allow us to trade for a new QB…maybe a future 5th round pick and some Kash…

  13. StuckinLville

People forget Gran doesn’t coach the QBs. And after a 10 win season and producing the best rusher in UK history, I think we are going to be glad he stayed. This is only the tip of the iceberg. And the defense will be just fine.

  14. Blue Bill

Hell, my bad, SBNation cited their source as KSR. Ha!

    1. bigbluebanana

That’s what I replied to you with in my comment thread above. There’s not one single source I can find that lists anyone other than KSR and MJ as the source. Not one.

    2. UK Coachk

These comments and responses of “I’ve searched everywhere” tells me a LOT about the extra time you have on your hands.

    3. bigbluebanana

Yeah, cause it totally takes up tons of time to google something. I’m a 36 year old single father, what would you expect me to be doing on a Thursday night?

  15. cats646

Gotta respect that loyalty. Even though I have been VERY tough on him I love the fact that he chose US over UGA. That says a lot about Mark Stoops and our program as a whole. Hope I was wrong in the past and it works out great! Go big blue!!

  16. cats646

I’m so confused, did he get an offer or not?! Explain KSR!

  17. runningunnin.454

For what it’s worth, I read 175 comments on the Georgia fan site. The overwhelming majority were favorable to Gran…taking into consideration his complete resume’. One even said it would be a homerun hire.
I think they keep up with football down there…especially the SEC East.

  18. bwise

Georgia dodged a bullet and we will suffer from it next year. Seventeen points a game lol

    1. runningunnin.454

The Georgia job is still open…why don’t you apply?

    2. ready4nineNOW

      Ugghhhh….. 10 WINS! Don’t bdumb bwise!

    3. henderblue

      Nice ready4nine..

  19. Big johnson

And how many points will your cards score a game bwiseass

  20. HackRichards

I too criticized Gran at times BUT I would not want to start over with a new system. ALSO I realize that Gran DID NOT drop all those passes our receivers did during the early part of the season AND that is when Gran decided to play smash-mouth football with SnellYeah. If we get some wide-out depth to take the pressure off Bowden who was double teamed all year – WATCH OUT!

    1. BigBlueWildcats

I dont understand the people who are on here and argue over every article or blog posted on the site. If you don’t like it don’t get on the site. Quit being losers and go elsewhere with your negativity. We had the best season in my lifetime and in 40 plus years. For me I’m gonna enjoy this. We keep the staff in place and that’s a plus for me.

    2. Bluebloodtoo

People get on here and comment because that’s what drives the site. It’s also the purpose of the site. Why does everyone have to agree with you? The world would be very boring if we all thought the same thing.

    3. Soylentbeans

Actually the purpose of the site is to present you with Kentucky sports news.

  21. katfan33

This is great news if Stoops will give Eddie full control of the offense!!

    1. cats646

      I hope you’re right

    2. UK Coachk

      THAT is the key…Spot on

  22. natertatter

most of you commenting here are morons and haters ,you are not fans. we just went 10 and 3 and finished the season ranked 12th in the country.im glad stoops and gran are in charge of uk football and not you morons.GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!

    1. cats646

Shut your fukin mouth kid. I criticize him because I am a fan. If I’m not a fan then what the hell have I been doin sitting in that stadium for every game I could make it to for the past 15 years? I hope he proves me wrong and does great. I just want what’s best for our team. I don’t go around wearing Eddie Gran gear. I wear UK gear, fukhead.

    2. UK Coachk

Cats646…your response says a lot about what our players and coaches have to put up with from our fans. Profanity has no place in forming or sharing your opinion.

    3. cats646

Omg? You mean all of those grown ass men have to deal with profanity? Must be a tough life. Smh

    4. Bobbum Man

You can be a fan and still be critical of the team.. I simply wouldn’t believe you if you told me you watched every game and never got frustrated or had issues with his playcalling… anyone who follows Kentucky football, KSR included, was critical of gran this season, and last. How about the Georgia game 3rd and 6 and we run up the middle…. AGAINST GEORGIA! A game where u simply have to take chances or you won’t win. Or the critical drives where ur best player Benny snell never touches the ball. I understand obviously he’s not going to be perfect and the QB maybe limits him some but his playcalling was simply headscratching and infuriating at times

    5. UK Coachk

Not the point……it’s not about grown men and profanity. I’m a former season ticket holder (moved too far away fm Lex) and have spent lots of time in Commonwealth (aka. Kroger) too. Coaches deserve all the ire, questioning, and have to answer for the production on the field. BUT all the random people on message board name calling and using profanity (and even referring it to a kid) toward each other over their opinions is part of what makes BBN hard to handle. I BLEED Blue and always will but GOD gave me two ears and one mouth for a reason.

    6. Logic_Prevails

@natertatter You are 110% right with this. People forget that the SEC is the best conference because of Defense. Other teams in the SEC have great defenses too. And I would beg the question who do people think would be better in the SEC with Kentucky’s talent. He has done a great job with improving talent. If he was at Georgia they would destroy us worst than they did this year.

    7. cats646

God gave you two ears and a mouth so you could tell someone not to use profanity on a message board? Strange

    8. UK Coachk

      Cats646…still not the point

    9. notFromhere

Natertatter, you are absolutely correct. Keep shouting it from the rooftops. Some dbags here and elsewhere wouldn’t be happy if the Cats won the SEC East, the conf championship, and the national title. They’d still think they could coach better because they’ve turned on a tv or bought a ticket. No helping the hopeless

  23. Paperbagface

Hopefully they let him open his play book. Congrats Eddie!!

  24. Wade

Wow! Thought he’d jump at that for sure maybe stoops is giving him the green light this yr

  25. makeitstop

He’s a quality OC, he owned up to a couple bad calls like TAMU – who on here, even in their own profession or trade has not had to say “I blew that, that’s on me?” We all have. He owned the TAMU call. The let down mid season was disappointing but i believe he did what he could with what he had. As evidence of that the nation’s #3 or 4 program either offered or considered him for their OC. We needed to keep him for next season and have and that’s a good sign for UK football.

    1. notFromhere

      Well said

  26. tdub

Glad he’s staying, hope coach Stoops turns him loose and lets him shine. Time to see that explosive offense next year.

    1. notFromhere

Only thing we need is more experienced depth on D. Once we’re solidly 2-3 deep there and back to there on the OLINE, he’ll be turned loose. Have to have enough experienced linemen to sub in and out on both sides of the ball while you run Gran’s preferred O.

Impresses me that he wants to stay with all of the crap the mental monkeys fling at him constantly. He’s a strong character dude.

  27. Headhurts

    Thanks fer not leaving Gran-pa.

  28. CayutsBy90

Everyone has a price. Starting a go fund me for Georgia to sweeten the pot

    1. michaelb

      Hehe

  29. notFromhere

For all of the people that may not understand football very well and may never have played or coached it, here’s some help…

The question you aren’t asking but should be is this- “What is Gran doing to help the defense be as good as it was this year, when he might have focused more on big plays and no huddle?”

There’s a REASON he wasn’t gunning it downfield as a rule, and using up clock. It made the defense better. Did any of you watch the Southern Miss game that they lost? THAT’S how WELL his offense COULD GO with an experienced QB.

He balanced it out for the better and FOR THE TEAM. That’s what people do. He could have had the offense put up huge numbers with the no huddle and then left for Georgia (and had all of the 4-5 stars that come with that job). It WASN’T JUST THE PLAYERS that sacrificed for the team this year and last.

When they see the coaches do it, just as Gran has done in turning down the Bulldogs, they’re following the examples preached AND set by the staff and players before them.

It would be AMAZING if the UK fans could do the same. AMAZING!!

CJ, Josh Allen, and many others could have moved on like Boom or Jeff Badet, but they weren’t all about themselves. Gran has done the same. Appreciate it and do your best to understand it. It’s a great and rare thing.

  30. SGD

It’s not always about the money if you’re happy where you are and with what you are doing. Coach Gran is a classy individual, if he had a QB who could really run his offense, maybe we would see what those outside of BBN see.

  31. Bill the Cat

Let’s see, Gran has been the OC for 3 years. In year 1 he produced two, 1,000 yd rushers (Boom, Benny) for the first time in school history. 2 years after that, Benny leaves school as the all-time leading rusher. Oh, and coincidentally, we ALSO won 10 games for the first time in 40 years!!! For ANY fan to say they want a different OC is Crazy talk! Gran has produced more in his three years than most did in their career at UK. I’m glad he stayed bc I believe we are about 2-3 players away from something really special.

    1. JPGott2

Once again, UK won 10 games because of our defense and Benny carrying multiple defenders on terrible up the gut playcalls.

Needing the walk off in the Mizzou game with what our defense had done is a bit even close to acceptable.

      Go Cats!

    2. Bill the Cat

Yes, Gran’s style will result in close games sometimes. The idea of it is ball control, run clock, wear down the other team’s defense hopefully so when the game is on the line in the 4th quarter (the most important quarter in 99% of games) we can own clock and control the line of scrimmage. Our defense doesn’t do what it did this year without the offense controlling the ball. That’s the beauty of football. You rely on BOTH sides of the ball and need BOTH sides working together to be good. Recall the Mumme days when our offense was loved by most everyone, games were 75-65 bc our defense couldn’t stop a middle school team. That’s bc they were gassed from going back out on defense every 2 minutes of game time. Contrast that with this year’s team where our defense got a little rest AND we have a coach that calues defensive football. Let’s face it, at UK, we MUST normally control clock bc we normally dont have the depth of most SEC schools. I’m sure Gran would gladly run a different offense if he had a roster of 5-star like Auburn, Ga our other. Much like he DID when he coached Auburn’s offense years ago. But the fact is, we don’t have a roster of 5-stars so we do what gives us the best chance of winning games bc winning games is the goal of the game, despite what some of the comments in ths board seem to indicate. We went 10-3. Credit whatever side of the ball you want but the fact is, Gran’s offense has produced well enough to improve on wins each year. That’s good enough for me, Many other fans, Stoops and Barnhart. Let’s move on to the next topic, shall we. Go Cats!

  32. lawdog1

Hard to argue with 10 and 3. I criticized Gran too but we did what we had to do to win. Gran has some guts to stick around and face the challenge.

  33. michaelb

I don’t think he was offered the job either . That’s a pretty big deal , it would be along the bottom of the espn ticket a nd other stations . It wouldn’t be secret news . .. . Manipulative things happen all the time . & that sounds like one of them … Georgia wouldn’t tell only matt Jones that . He doesn’t know anything about college football . He couldn’t even name the players till this year

  34. michaelb

Think about every other time matt said his secret source told him something lately …. it’s been whiffs and slaps in the face or let downs . I’m sorry but nothing football related holds weight with me .

  35. kjd

10-3 with a offensively restricted head coach, and only an adequate QB is an accomplishment. I’m glad he’s staying. I hope we can find the players to execute his full offensive package.

  36. CopenhagenCat

It means UK wont be throwing the ball over 5 yards.

  37. JPGott2

I love how all the Gran fans do not do the dudilligence to find out the truth.

What is the truth? Oh, that is that Gran was never offered the OC job. He was in talks w Georgia with regards to a ‘position coach’ position.

You can make up what ever you want, but an OC with a 100+ rated offense is not getting offers from a team that was 18th this past year.

Please quit making up your reality.

    1. bigbluebanana

Overall, I’m a fan of Gran and think Stoops has more to do with our style of offense than Gran does, but I’ve been stating the same thing you said here all day. I think this (non) story is more about questioning MJ and KSR. IMO, this is likely some combination of Gran and his agent making leverage for contract issues/Gran and his people trying to regain favor amongst the fan base/KSR looking for clicks and name drops across a broader range of media.

  38. katmandue2you

We ended up 10-3. We beat Penn State in the Citrus Bowl. Next year is a new season. Can we please STFU about Coach Gran unless we have something good to say?

  39. unbiasedfan

10-3, 2nd SEC East, ranked 11th, beat PENN STATE in New Years Day bowl and still haters on here. SMH. If we were 5-7 and missed bowl and all the negatives that would have went with that you’d be saying same thing. We’re better as a whole right now than we’ve ever been. That’s all parts included. People such as 646 will never be satisfied. Has a sad life. Go Big Blue. Keep doing what your doing and keep building. Congrats to Coach Stoops and everyone from top to bottom.

  40. tree_gardener

Mannn none of you all are ever going to be happy..

  41. tree_gardener

Mannn some of you all will never be happy..

  42. tree_gardener

Man some of you all will never be happy

  43. Kat4Life

    Love it. Loyalty matters.

  44. KingKentucky

I have no clue where my comment went last night. But Glad Coach Gran stayed.
