Chris Oats Reportedly Commits to Kentucky over Ohio State

Mark Stoops has finished his 2018 class with a recruiting coup.  Four-star linebacker Chris Oats has committed to Kentucky over Ohio State according to Mike Dyer of WCPO.

The 6’4″ linebacker from Mike Edwards’ alma mater,  Cincinnati Winton Woods, also held offers from Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Louisville and more.  Oats is considered the No. 22 outside linebacker in the class by the 247 Composite Rankings and the No. 325 player overall.

Stoops and Vince Marrow have recruited a ton of talented players from the state of Ohio, however, if Ohio State enters the picture, it’s usually bad news for the Big Blue.  Not only was Ohio State in the picture, they made Oats a priority by offering him a scholarship prior to his junior season.  Kentucky went toe-to-toe with the Buckeyes for 18 months and won the recruiting battle.

The addition of Oats gives Kentucky the perfect player to cap off the 2018 recruiting class.  An elite athlete that can play all four linebacker positions, the decommitment of another linebacker does not matter now that Oats is a Wildcat.  Kentucky is getting a versatile defender that will make an impact on Saturdays and looks a lot like an NFL playmaker.  See for yourself:

For the stoops haters, remember the time we was competing with middle Tennessee and ball state for players? Now we compete with OSU on their state and get the players? Hmmm

Pretty sure none of the Stoops haters complaints involved recruiting. It involved in game coaching and player development. Good argument though. You kind of made our point for us.

Has he made some bad game management issues, yes but player development? You realize Josh Allen was a 2-star recruit? Benny Snell was a 3-star recruit.

You realize that no-one on offense got better until he hired Eddie Gran. You also realize the secondary who is so highly touted with big recruit after big recruit couldn’t cover a high school offense and has gotten worse as time goes by right? You also realize that naming 2 players who are extremely self driven of the the hundred or so that he has had on campus is horrible. I’m looking for those players drafted to the NFL that he recruited as well…..nope, not many of those either.

OH St fans immediately take to Twitter to claim they never offered or wanted Oats anyway.

They do have the #1 overall recruiting class in the country, right now. I doubt anyone is complaining or even noticed.

lol. Did anyone actually watch the film? Kid has good measurables but looked really soft and played upright. He is definitely raw. I get so sick of the “looks like an NFL playmaker” and this QB is Tom Brady…Go look at all these fools talking about Drew Barker 3 years ago being the next Peyton Manning. So ridiculous.
