CBS Sports ranked every team in college football; where did Kentucky end up?

CBS Sports released their rankings of all 130 teams in college football yesterday. Where did your Kentucky Wildcats end up? Just outside the top 50 at No. 51, behind Minnesota and ahead of Baylor. Here’s where the Cats landed in comparison to the rest of the SEC:

1. Alabama
9. Auburn
12. LSU
15. Georgia
16. Florida
26. Tennessee
32. Arkansas
36. Mississippi State
41. Texas A&M
42. South Carolina
51. Kentucky
56. Ole Miss
62. Vanderbilt
73. Missouri

So, fifth in the SEC East behind Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina, just as the media predicted at SEC Media Days. Comparatively, Kentucky is 35th in ESPN’s Football Power Index rankings, ahead of Ole Miss, Arkansas, Missouri, and Vanderbilt.

Maybe it’s all the KyWildcatTV hype videos talking, but 35th sounds a lot more realistic than 51st. Thoughts?

What do you expect with our previous track record! We will have to win for several years for the media to give us any break. This will motivate our team to improve. We are getting the respect we have earned over the last 50 years. It may take 50 years to change our image.

We’ve beat SCAR 3 years in a row and return more on offense and defense….

    And MSU

  4. maximumscott

Its good bc it seems this group will approach every game knowing they can win em all. Hitting with a chip on their shoulder.

If there’s 130 teams, #65 is average. That means we’re above average!!

They couldn’t tell you the starting O-Lines for each of the top 5 teams in the country off the top of their head, much less go through every team and rank them in an accurate way.

Our Oline will be a beast. 2 deep at every position. SJ will have plenty of time to throw. If we can get average play from our Dline and the other groups perform up to their talent and experience, then this team will win 9 games

The fact that we are rank behind SC may end up being the difference this team needs to have and edge going into the week 3 matchup.
But in the same regard it continues to baffle me how a team that we have beaten 3 years running, when we had a smaller team exodus than them, is ranked in front of us.
Goes to show, year in and year out, pre-season ranking are meaningless.

Its all foder right now, we have’nt taken the first snap yet. Lets see what it is after week 3. Then will be a better measurement then now.

Motivation comes from within. These players know they have what it takes for success. It does not matter where you are rated at the beginning of the season. It is where you finish. Hoping they finish strong and prove the media wrong. Things can change in a hurry. It is up to the Cats to make that happen, they can, and hopefully, they will.

11th in the SEC – that’s about right until we consistently prove on-the-field otherwise…

  12. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Let’s get past Southern Miss and then worry about the SEC. However, I do hope this puts a chip on their shoulder.

come on guys, you know they are just low balling us so they have a big story when we win 8 games this year.
