BTI’s Rants and Ramblings: How Does This Not Excite You for the 2015 Offense?

It can not be stated enough just how exciting it is to have a competitive football team again.  Kentucky is becoming a trendy pick to upset South Carolina this weekend and many are now predicting a possible bowl game this year.  But frankly, all of that would be icing on the cake to what is just the bounce back year for this football program.  But next year could really be something special.  The home slate might be the best in school history.  But most importantly, UK is looking like they will bring back almost all of their key players, especially on the offensive side of the ball.  Through 4 games, take a look at the stats accumulated at each position and how many of those guys will be coming back.  And then I did the math on what percentage of key stats could be coming back through 4 games.  Seniors have been included but marked out.

QUARTERBACK
Patrick Towles (RS-Sophomore): 4 starts, 84-135, 1117 yards, 6 TD, 49 carries, 205 yards, 2 TD
Reese Phillips (RS-Freshman): 2-4 (50.0%), 45 yards
RETURNING IN 2015: 100% of completions, 100% of yards, 100% of TD’s

RUNNING BACK
Braylon Heard (Junior): 3 starts, 29 carries, 217 yards, 7.5 ypc, 2 TD, 3 catches, 8 yards
JoJo Kemp (Sophomore): 1 start, 33 carries, 155 yards, 4.7 ypc, 1 TD, 2 catches, 15 yards
Mikel Horton (Freshman): 23 carries, 121 yards, 5.3 ypc, 2 TD
Boom Williams (Freshman): 16 carries, 99 yards, 6.2 ypc, 1 TD, 5 catches, 75 yards, 1 TD
Josh Clemons (RS-Junior): 7 carries, 32 yards, 4.6 ypc
DJ Warren (Senior): 1 catch, 9 yards
RETURNING IN 2015: 100% of carries, 100% of yards, 100% of TD’s

WIDE RECEIVER
Ryan Timmons (Sophomore): 4 starts, 20 catches, 246 yards, 1 TD
Demarco Robinson (Senior): 4 starts, 10 catches, 180 yards
Javess Blue (Senior): 3 starts, 6 catches, 77 yards
Dorian Baker (Freshman): 1 start, 11 catches, 122 yards, 1 TD
Garrett Johnson (Freshman): 11 catches, 181 yards, 2 TD
Blake Bone (Freshman): 5 catches, 113 yards, 1 TD
TV Williams (Freshman): 4 catches, 64 yards
Joey Herrick (Junior): 1 start, 2 catches, 18 yards
Charles Walker (Freshman): 1 catch, 4 yards
RETURNING IN 2015: 80% of catches, 77% of yards, 100% of TD’s

TIGHT END
Steve Borden (Senior): 3 starts, 3 catches, 32 yards
Ronnie Shields (Senior): 2 catches, 28 yards
RETURNING IN 2015: 0% of catches, 0% of yards, 0% of TD’s

OFFENSIVE LINE
Jordan Swindle (Junior): 4 starts (16 career starts)
Jon Toth (Sophomore): 4 starts (19 career starts)
Ramsey Meyers (RS-Freshman): 4 starts
Darrian Miller (Senior): 3 starts
Cole Mosier (RS-Freshman): 2 starts, 3 games played
Zach West (Junior): 1 start (22 career starts)
Kyle Meadows (RS-Freshman): 1 start, 3 games played
Nick Haynes (RS-Freshman): 1 start, 3 games played
Max Godby (Senior): 4 games played
Zach Myers (Sophomore): 1 game played (1 career start)
Teven Eaton-Nared (Senior): 1 game played
RETURNING IN 2015: 85% of starts (66 career starts combined for returning players)

Unless tight end becomes a serious focal point of the offense in the future, I think Kentucky is going to be quite strong on the offensive side of the ball in 2015.

How does the Defense fair in this comparison?

    1. Spoiler alert

Bud and Z both graduate, but most of the other key contributors are underclassmen. Between the returning players and the guys who are red-shirting this year the majority of the defense will be Stoops/Eliot guys.

We’ll miss Bud and Z, but the guys behind them will have been learning from some of the best defensive coaches in the NCAA and training under Coach Korem’s guidance for over a year by the time the season starts. Not to mention their natural physical gifts coming out of high school… 2015 is going to turn some heads.

this is basically what I submitted for the ksr writing application “Introducing your 2015 UK Football Team” where I did a mock depth chart and discussed how much of the production was from guys that will be back next year … I did offense and defense and added our current list of 2015 commitments

bti, speaking of TE, you almost have to expect cj conrad to step in and play right away … the guy is 6’5″, 225 lbs and is quick enough to be RETURNING PUNTS for his hs team, wow … nick roush tweeted just a couple days ago that he looks like he’s been putting on a lot of muscle, too

  2. Kige Is the Oracle@Delphi

In all seriousness, congrats on the new position. Was grunting part of the interview process, or is it only the tennis players that grunt like that?

Rumors say that UK has suspended 4 freshman for saturday’s game because of the campus shooting. is this true?

    1. Gabe Wildcat

Not true. Gun used was fake. Drew “Vanilla Ice” Barker was trying to build street cred

    2. RUPPS_rhetoric

Yes it is true that they were suspended. As far as a “Shooting” goes; it was a plastic pellet gun.

    3. Reality

It sounds like the idiots were having an airsoft “shootout” in the middle of a dorm complex late at night and it (rightfully) freaked people the hell out. Totally harmless except for the incitement of general panic across campus.

They should spend the next several Sundays picking up trash around campus on top of sitting out a game and running until they fall over in practice, but nothing quite so dramatic as expulsion or dismissal from the team.

  4. Play the next play

You mention Josh Clemons. Any idea why he didn’t play against Vandy? Is he injured?

  5. TT

They have 1 RS Frosh at TE behind the 2 seniors and 1 big recruit at TE coming in next year….

  6. magunum's mustache

We are also redshirting 7 freshmen offensive players. 4 OL, 1 QB, 1 TE and 1 WR.

  7. The Big Stick

Montgomery and Badet are not listed as WR (since they have yet to play this year). However, they were two of our leading receivers from last year. Both have multiple years left to play.

  8. Patches

With the over the top panic about guns in this country these four players were just being dumb. The so called guns are basically toys and are only dangerous if shot into an eye, like a paper wad, like a tennis ball, like any ball, and like so many other things that are tossed, flung or accidentally projected. A one game suspension is harsh enough and this should be shelved under the lesson learned file.

  9. Paul Pelgen

Maybe the jewels they are talking about at Ft. Knox is really a reference to where Jules Camara was locked up

  10. Tom

    Fantastic numbers!
Now judge to level of competition they were put up against.
Anytime you can play the quality of teams we have so far,
    And HOW is recruiting doing?

    1. Wow

Totally missed the point Tom, you miserable drunk piece of shit.
The point of the article is that our top players and playmakers will be returning next year, with more experience. Yes, “our version of Stoops’s” guys are getting it done so far. It’s not about the stats.

      As far as recruiting:
UK – #22, vs your Tards, ranked #46

Now go back to jacking it to your Petrino poster.

“….you miserable drunk piece of shit” made me laugh.
