You Need to Listen to Oscar Comb’s Conversation with Joe B. Hall

The Big O returned to podcastland with a special treat for the Big Blue Nation.  He’s starting the New Year by releasing a four-part series with Joe B. Hall.

I’ll admit it, I had not listened to one of Oscar’s new podcasts yet.  I’m glad I listened to this one; it’s one you can’t miss.  Even though Coach Hall has been in the lives of Kentucky fans for decades as a player, coach and radio host, there’s still plenty we don’t know about him.  In the first episode, Joe. B discussed his younger years and his time as a player.  My favorite parts:

—  Joe B. explains the origins of the “B” in his name.

—  He didn’t always live in Cynthiana.  His family moved to Florida looking for work in the 30s.  Joe B. admitted he spent more time at the beach than in class.

— How he earned his way onto the Kentucky team and what it was like to practice against the Fabulous Five (hint: he couldn’t defend Ralph Beard).

—  Did you know the Fabulous Five played a game at Stoll Field to raise money to go to the Olympics?

—  The time Wah Wah Jones threw a haymaker at a fan taunting from the stands.

—  Why he transferred from Kentucky and the road that eventually led him to a tour with the Harlem Globetrotters in Africa.  Yes, Coach Hall went to Africa with the Globetrotters.
