Vanderbilt’s Simi Shittu declares for the NBA Draft

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Add Simi Shittu to the list of SEC underclassmen declaring for the NBA Draft. The Vanderbilt freshman just announced he is entering his name into the draft and his career as a Commodore is over.

Shittu didn’t have quite the year he’d hoped at Vanderbilt, averaging 10.9 points and 6.7 rebounds. The one-time Kentucky target was a top 10 recruit coming out of high school but is now ranked No. 81 in ESPN’s list of top 100 draft prospects; however, considering Vanderbilt’s dismal season and the firing of Bryce Drew, it’s not that surprising he’s making the jump.

From top 10 to 81-the Vandy Effect.

    Who gives a shittu.

Aren’t Vandy students supposed to be smart? Stick around and be better than the 81st draft prospect this time next year.

My sources agree he should stay in school…

Add Shittu to the list of Malik Newman and company who thought they would go be the man and a one and done at a school not equipped to develop players quickly. Anthony Edwards better take note.

But, but, but… the naysayers are always telling everyone that the really talented players are going to the NBA anyway and no college coach does anything to develop them in one season. It was on the internet, so it has to be true.

The naysayers are stupid, particularly bigolblue, mashburnfan, and that buffoon kycat4ever, or whatever his name is, you know, the one with a horse for a profile pic on here? Yeah, all three dumber than a bag of dlcks.

And how many players has Cal had that dropped way down or out, of draft projections after 1-3 years with Cal. POY, Gabriel, SKJ, Twins, Goodwin, Briscoe, Richards, Keldon and many more. Yes he had Wall, AD and more that went #1 or lottery BUT they were all that same pick had they left right from High School to the draft. And his numbers were not far off what our top 4 players averaged and he had nothing around him for other teams to worry about. I love how BBN is first to smash others when there are numerous other examples of players who got drafted very high and did not play for Cal, many of them. There are also just as many Malik Newman stories right here at UK. I guess all players should go to Murray St, that coach took a no draft radar kid to a top 5 pick in one year. Every High School player in America should be knocking down that guys door.

Mash are u kidding? So it’s Cal’s fault Skal was a bust or was he overrated? The twins were great HS players but it didn’t translate. SKJ and Wenyen weren’t ever considered top draft picks but Malik Newman was. U cannot w a straight face posit the theory Cal doesn’t get players ready for the NBA bettter than any coach out there. Ask them. Ask SGA. Ask John Wall. Ask KAT, or Willie. Ur bias is showing a bit too much lately.

Murray state has Farreid. And Morant. And….who else? Player developement! What top 50 players has Duke, UNC, or Kansas produced? (Really, I don’t really know). BTW, wasn’t Kansas in the running for all time wins when Cal came to town? Maybe they still are, but the media doesn’t care enough to put Self in all those coach stat conversations.

      Lol good one

I hope all those guys going to Memphis are paying attention. Bumped in the round of 32 with dropping draft prospects.

  7. minton22

Shittu’s stock sure took a dump.

With new rules changes – u can hire an agent and still return – plus the coaching change, couldn’t we recruit him again? It’s the Wild West now…

Vanderbilt has academic standards so I’m thinking he didn’t have the option to return
