We knew five-star prospect Zion Williamson was a superstar, and today, Columbia, SC mayor Steve Benjamin took that stardom to a whole new level.
This afternoon, Benjamin announced on Twitter that he would be officially naming January 20, 2018 “Zion Williamson Day” in Columbia to celebrate the high school phenom’s college commitment.

Benjamin, a University of South Carolina graduate, added a #GoCocks tag to the end of his tweet with a ‘fingers crossed’ emoji to follow.
According to Adam Zagoria, South Carolina feels the addition of Brian Bowen increases their chances with the star forward. That being said, Clemson and Kentucky remain the rumored favorites.
South Carolina also thinks the addition of Bowen will help in the recruitment of Zion Williamson who announces Jan. 20 and is thought to favor Clemson and UK, source confirms.

When it comes to recruiting with high-profile teenagers, no one truly knows where their minds are. There are endless whispers, sources, and rumors, but decisions go back and forth by the hour. With a week remaining until he officially announces, who knows how this recruitment ends.
No matter where he ends up, it’s pretty cool to see Williamson’s hometown celebrate his success on a platform this big. He’s one of the biggest YouTube phenoms we’ve seen in recent memory, and now he has his own day to show for it.
