Rex Chapman has a new website

Rex Chapman came on the show this morning to talk about the Cats and his new website, If you follow Rex on Twitter, you know he loves sharing his opinions on both the Cats and college basketball, and his new site is just a bigger forum for those thoughts. He’s already got some great stuff up, including this spot-on comment about James Young:

But in this “one and done” age in which we live — THERE IS NOBODY ON THIS KENTUCKY ROSTER who would benefit any more than James Young to returning for his sophomore year. Pay no attention to mock-drafts. James Young, right now, is not a better prospect than Archie Goodwin was a year ago — and Archie went 29th. The people at these “mock-draft”-sites haven’t a clue. The NBA ppl I’ve spoken with, to a person, are in agreement that the league could crush a youngster w the weaknesses James currently has handling and passing from the guard spot. He CAN IMPROVE and I believe he WILL improve — IF he’s not in too big of a hurry to leave.

Rex has similar breakdowns for Alex Poythress, Willie Cauley-Stein, and Dakari Johnson, so go check it out at

Well put Rex. Best to you and to your family.
Keep sharing your opinions, and insights, because there are many (including those who post on this site) who would never be honest and say things like “go big blue”. I don’t know how saying “go big blue” makes Young, or the Harrisons, any better.
Your comments were right on the money.

Read earlier this AM. A great take on the Cats and cbb in general. Rex’s insights on team and individual players is good but most important it is clear eyed. I feel better about the team and the season after reading. Not better because Rex thinks we are making a run(he doesn’t) but it adds to my understanding about what has happened with this team. It also humanizes the individuals on the team in a way that lessens my criticism and adds to my understanding about what they are going thru.
    Thanks, Rex.

Young is not even remotely interested in playing another season in college. He will declare and somebody will take a chance on him in the first round. He has tremendous potential when he stops being lazy.

‘Young is not even remotely interested in playing another season in college.’

Sources? Is he a friend of yours?

    2. tyrus

Agree with Reality except for the tremendous potential part. Potential? Sure but tremendous, I’ll go with above average. He’s not in the top 100 in any offensive category and plays on a team ranked 24th or 25th and not mentioned in the power rankings.

hell cat…no source, just MHO skippy.

These players would be well served to listen to the people who have been there before them (in the NBA) and who also do not have a personal stake in their decisions. The agents and hangers-on will always tell them that they are God’s gift to basketball and staying another year to develop will only hurt their career. The fans will always want them to stay, for our own selfish hopes that we will be a better team next year. Guys like Rex see the big picture from outside the box.

How many guys have to leave to make the scholarship situation work next year? Two seniors. If only Randle and WCS go, then we’d be fine, right?

    1. PhilUK18

Yeah, I think we would be fine with only those guys leaving. The scholarship limit is 13. Assuming that only those 4 are gone, we would have: Hawkins, Willis, Lee, Johnson, Harrison (x2), Poythress, Young, Ulis, Booker, Lyles, and Towns on scholarship by my count. I don’t think I’m missing anyone, and that would make 12.

  6. Bobbum man

No kidding he needs another year… He’s a 6’6 2/3 who’s a mediocre shooter, can’t play D, bad passer, and can’t hit free throws. Honestly don’t know what they see that I dont… Is it because he was ranked high? I know he’s young but come on

Rex is the best follow on twitter too. It’s so refreshing when you go from listening to Jimmy Dykes repeat his drivel over and over again to Rex with actual insightful candid commentary.

I wish Rex still drove his “I-Rex” around town (for those old enough to know what I mean).

    1. stevieb

Yes, I remember the IROC ! IREX

    2. stevieb

Actually I just saw on his website, he is selling a tshirt of his car. Go under “shop”

I too agree w/ Rex, and have loved him from the beginning. He needs to come give some pointers on shooting the 3-ball, what a sweet stroke he had. I can’t go without saying what is up with that outfit Rex? The tie tucked into the shorts is bad, but socks with crocks, and OMG if those shorts were pulled up any higher they would be touching his armpits. As Erckel said, did I do that?

  10. K2da

Speaking of outfits, when are we going to get some new gear? Hell as ugly as we play, we can Atleast wear eye-catching ugly gear like Louisville did. Plus I hate disrespecting those championship uniforms with the subpar play the last 2 seasons.

KSR … do whatever it takes to get Rex writing for this site. Whatever it takes!!!!

If Young comes back, I hope Coach Cal makes him re-earn the minutes he plays. To let him play 35-40 minutes while going 1-11 or 4-12 shooting, not passing well, and not playing good defense, is crazy.

    1. stevieb

You got that right! I would rather give Willis a chance

  13. Bill Brasky

I hate to think like Debbie Downer, but if all the guys come back that people are saying should come back (i.e. everyone but Randle and possibly Willie) some transfers may be inevitable. Lee is the most likely candidate. Possibly Willis. Make no mistake, I’d take that trade off, but it would be unfortunate if they chose to pull a Wiltjer and leave (or conversely if some recruits changed their minds).

    1. stevieb

I actually think Wiltjer would have had a great year if he stayed. Randall collapsing the defense and kicking it out to him. Would have been a great combo.

Good day! Do you know if they make any plugins to protect against hackers?

I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on.
    Any tips?

What I read by Rex was a promo for next year and very little on the spot analysis of the current crop of Frosh. All after the fact info that we all are painfully aware. I recall watching the MC D game in 2013 and was very perplexed about the wonder kinds we were getting. The lack of athleticism apparent then to me, a non expert. I told my brother before the season I hoped I was wrong. I hoped Dakari, Andrew and Aaron were holding back something. I swear. Did anyone watch the Mickey D game these guys were in? If so were you not troubled as I was?
I’m a huge fan of Rex and I hated when he went early NBA. One of the most athletic white guys I ever saw.
