REPORT: Quade Green could transfer from Kentucky, La Salle would be top option

There have been rumors circulating about a potential Quade Green transfer for weeks, and now, we have our first school attached to those whispers.

Robert Snyder, a reporter for NBC Sports Boston, says John Calipari is “prepping for the loss” of Green and La Salle “would be the choice.”

Reminder: Robert Snyder, a guy I had never heard of before this report, is…

A. Affiliated with NBC Sports Boston

B. Considers himself a “bracketologist”

C. Only has 518 followers (as of now)

Of his followers, though, are Kevin O’Connor, Kyle Draper, Brian Robb, Jared Carrabis, and Tom Curran, very prominent and respected Boston sports writers/reporters.

With La Salle being located in the heart of Philadelphia, Green’s hometown, maybe Snyder has sources located in the northeast talking to the Kentucky freshman’s family/inner circle. Maybe he has talked with La Salle sources directly, and they told him Green is set to pack his bags and head up north.

Could be nothing, could be something.

As a side note, one source close to Quade Green told KSR those at home believe he wasn’t used properly in his first season at Kentucky.

“I thought he did well especially since he had to do a lot of adapting considering his role changed a few different times,” the source said. “He definitely has more to offer than he was asked to give is all I can say.

With John Calipari selling five-star guards Ashton Hagans, Tyrese Maxey, and Jalen Leque on reclassifying to 2018, maybe that’s his version of “prepping for the loss.” With Green, Hagans, Quickley, Herro, Baker, etc. already manning the Wildcat backcourt, why would Coach Cal be pushing for players to jump up a year when he could save them for a loaded 2019 guard class?

I don’t think it’s a secret Green has contemplated a transfer from Kentucky. But a five-star guard averaging nearly 30 minutes a game as a freshman transferring to La Salle…? I don’t buy it.

This would be tough if in fact true. We need Quade.

    1. FACTS

I think Maxey should stay in 2019. And Quade doesn’t transfer. I think he will be a more experienced player for next year and will be a main factor on how deep we will go into the tournament.

  2. a21CATSfan

I thought he would go home, thinking Nova maybe even Temple. But, La Salle?

  3. Mathlete

If Villanova wants him, he’d be a superstar in that system…

    1. notFromhere

      Yep

  4. Luether

The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. Hopefully, Quade is wise enough to realize this…

  5. UKantstopus

I laugh at all these people who talk about how he had more to offer. Or any player for that matter… U came here, you do what you are told or asked, bottom line…
If I say that at my job, I’m getting fired..

    1. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

He’s not an employee. He’s a college basketball player. Hello?

    2. UKantstopus

And he should do what hes told.. hes going to school for free..

    3. BBNDan7

Right, because earning a scholarship all of a sudden makes you a slave

  6. Irishcats118

As fans we go from 10 days ago being sold on the possibility of knox and sga returning to this mass exodus. Pj wenyen and quade are 3 that need to return for the cats to be special next yr. I can’t imagine Cal would encourage any of the 3 to leave. Cal is the best recruiter in the country….he needs to recruit these 3 to come back. Not just because it’s best for UK but because it’s best for these 3 as individuals as well.

    1. henderblue

I would add Jared Vanderbilt as well ^^

  7. Daddyof3Ballers

This just doesn’t make sense to me. Your going to transfer and sit out a year to be an average player on a below average team. Why not stay and be an average player on a good team for four years and win a ‘ship. Who knows you may end up being an NBA talent eventually by practicing against NBA guys every day….I think Quade stays

  8. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Well crap. I hope not but oh well.

  9. UKLugo

    …he wasn’t used properly…”

“He definitely has more to offer than he was asked to give…“

    That’s what they all say.
    Everyone’s a freakin coach.

  10. FlatTopsAndBlockedShots

100% wasn’t utilized properly. When he was starting the team took more shots per game and a higher FG%. He’s a player that pushes the ball 94 ft that promotes lots of ball movement. Although Shai proved to be a very good player in the half court he was not a natural PG which caused players of certain skills to have a difficult time scoring. When the team is flying up and down the court who is playing well? Hami, Quade, Knox, Vanderbilt. When in the half court who played well? Shai and Knox. Quade would be really good with next years team, lots of guys playing fast with early and often ball movement.

That being said another transfer from this program would be very VERY bad.

    1. a21CATSfan

He also got hurt. He never came back from that. Same with PJ.

  11. SouthernPride

Pack your shit and get gone. No room for cry babies who don’t wanna be here.

    1. henderblue

Don’t listen to this guy Quade. Slater is a jerk and a Louisville troll. And if he’s not, he should be. He’s obviously no fan. FlatTops above is right

    2. crazycatfan65

Try taking your own advice and get gone yourself ass clown, UK doesn’t need or want you as a fan. You are 1 sorry excuse of a human being dogging on a kid. When these kids are playing good, your lips are glued to their ass cheeks and gladly giving them a reach around but when something doesn’t go the way you like or want you throw them under the bus. Its ass clowns like yourself that give every REAL TRUE BLUE UK fan a bad name. Go back to cheering for loservile since they are more your type. You wont be missed sperm junky!!

This sure is fun, NOT. Only bright side is not many years left of this new team every year BS. Looking like we have no shot at a title next year and the season has not even started. Oh well next June should be fun to keep hearing Kentucky called. No experience=no titles. Just like I said in Nov the season was a waste already because we were no different than 200 plus other teams that had no shot at a title when the season started, not how it should be at UK. We do have the luxury of another weak SEC schedule, again no SEC team has a chance at a title. Oh well, can’t wait for 2019-2020 season.

    1. Cokely53

Oh boo hoo. You’re either a troll or the most pessimistic person ever. Go join a different fan base. One with less expectation so you can be happy even though you probably never will be.

    2. henderblue

He’s an ass and he should definitely find another fan base.

    3. jackmathers879

      L. O. L. What a joke of a fan. No shot at a title next year? We could still have 5-6 guys return plus a loaded freshman class. & the SEC is going to be the strongest it has been in over 10 years next season.

    4. bosch8184

You jersey chasing mouth breathers who do nothing but lap up whatever BS Cal is selling should go find another team.

True Big Blue Fans want what is best for the University of Kentucky- not best for Cal and some 19 year-old kid that halfass rented the jersey for 6 months.

  13. BBNDan7

Would be literally kissing any NBA hope goodbye

    1. Megan

      Literally.

  14. UKLugo

The problem with Quade is that he was getting abused on the defensive end. He’s slow laterally. He’s a terrific leader and an asset on O. A liability on D.

    1. Rembrandt

Very true and reasonable description of Quade Green’s season. I would just add that he will be a better player as a soph.

    2. Dowser

Not only lacks lateral quickness but height and length as well. Cal wants someone who isn’t such a mismatch when they switch, as well. Quickly has more defensive potential, and has very similar offensive skills.

  15. Jpcat15

I get excited every season welcoming our new recruits- no doubt about it. Cal always brings in the # 1 or 2 class. With that said, it is really tough losing so many guys every year. I could understand when absolute studs would leave for the NBA like Davis, Wall, Cousins and KAT. I can’t understand losing guys to the draft who are not bonafide studs- Teague, Goodwin, Skal, Hami, and potentially PJ and Gabriel. Those guys aren’t great college players, yet. They could end up great with more time. Heck, Knox and SGA aren’t in the same class as Wall, Cousins, etc. but at least they will certainly get paid and make a team. Add the transfers to the equation- Wiltjer, SKJ and possibly Green and things are really crazy. I know times have changed, but I would really like to see a few guys play for 3 or 4 years that never want to take the uniform off. Don’t get me wrong, I still want to have guys like Wall and Davis, but we need to find a few guys to stick around for som stability and the chance to grow as players and Cal needs to show that he values that, too. It is certainly a complex situation. Still love the Cats but would like to watch some of the guys for more than 1 or 2 years.

    1. Jiminy Crickets

The reason we cannot get guys to stay more than two years, is not the fact that they feel as though they are failures. The fact of the matter is Calipari only plays about a seven or eight man rotation every year. Therefore a roster of nine or 10 all Americans, are going to have three players every year that regardless of ability, will not play. Derek Willis cut and sniff the floor, but when given the chance he was a very valuable member to our team. Marcus Lee never got a chance, but when he did in the tournament he was a monster. Isaac Humphries set the bench I’m never played, when you get the chance against North Carolina and look like a stud. SKJ set the bench most of your behind Nick Richards although all of us could see the Anytime Jones got the chance he was a significantly better player. Calipari will give you a chance, but as soon as he determines that you are not an absolute ready to go study, he has no problems burying you on the bench and recruiting over you. This is why we have almost as many players transfer out, as we do players that stay more than two years

    2. Jiminy Crickets

I hope you understand voice text.

    3. Ez21

I wouldn’t say a guy that had 3 put back dunks is a monster nor would I overreact to Humphries 1 game where he was making everything he threw up. Both guys had numerous chances and didn’t play well.

    4. notFromhere

      Pretty fair assessment, Crickets.

  16. rsmith

He was hurt twice during the season! Both fans and those around him must understand this simple fact. Considering him struggling with both of those he had a heck of a good freshman season. Young man has a lot of heart, and a bright future at UK. I hope he stays!!

    1. Memphis UK Cat

You are exactly right. He was hurt and lost some time. Come on back Quade, you will be awesome with this group.

  17. BBNDan7

I trust nothing from someone not verified on Twitter

  18. bosch8184

    Epic disaster brewing here.

Whose excited about a whole new team again for the 3rd year in a row?

Well when we get our butt beat at least Cal will have the young team BS as a CYA.

  19. Jesus H. Chrysler

As long as Brad is still here, we’re golden

    1. Ez21

He only has 1 more year unless he wants to stay and work on his masters.

  20. blueballs80

Tough! Shai took his minutes out and that’s how it goes. No one expected Shai to do so well but he did and now he is a first round pick. Tough for him and I understand. Plus he was a streaky shooter. Cal will recruit like no other.

  21. Jiminy Crickets

After 2012, Calipari said he had two goals for coaching. He said he wanted to go 40-0, and he wanted to coach and all freshman team to a national championship, both of which have never been done. He missed out on 40-0, barely. He is now determined to put together a team of freshman, and if it doesn’t work this year, next year may be his last

  22. Jiminy Crickets

We may lose SEVEN guys from a team that lost 12 games, finished fourth in the SEC, and couldn’t beat a terrible Kansas State team in order to get to the final four with the easiest seated path in tournament history. Think about that

  23. ClutchCargo

We may be losing our crap over something that doesn’t even happen. Think about that.

  24. Cryingtheblues

Most of you on here bitch because Cal is losing ELITE recruits to Duke! Then when bottom tier 5 star guys are transferring out because Cal is recruiting ELITE players over them you’re bitching about them transferring out. You bitch when we’re losing! You bitch when we’re not winning championships! Do you want ELITE players or lower tier 5 star guys and losing recruiting battles to Duke. When Coach K is bringing in better talent than Cal you’re bitching that Cal has lost mojo! I’ve never seen a fanbase that’s so damn spoiled and divided!!

    1. njCat

If you think all these kids fleeing the program is normal and ok, you are blind to what’s going on. Something has broken in Cal’s system and he will not sniff another final four until he fixes it. Duke won’t either if they start 5 freshmen every year. Evidence is clear that won’t work.

    2. Ez21

Me either good post. A 3 game win streak will push them 1 way and a 3 game losing streak will send em the other. It’s damn embarrassing for true fans. It’s ok to not like or to criticize certain things but saying Cal needs to leave is a freaking joke.

  25. KentuckyVSEveryone

Quade was a trooper and did everything Cal asked of him. It’s not easy to be a ball dominant guard your whole life and then be asked to play off the ball…that takes TIME to learn and understand. When he was manning the offense we were definitely a faster team, and moved way better in the half court. With Shai it became ISO ball with 2-3 options – Knox off the baseline, down low to PJ, or high pick-and-roll for Shai to get to the hoop – and while that worked pretty well it became WAY to easy to scout. Just look at the Kansas St. game! The had DAYS to figure out what they could in hours: disrupt them by playing physical, stay close, and try and steal the game. With Quade we were flying on offense and it had much more fluidity. Just look at Diallo’s numbers the first 15 games of the season! It opened the court in transition rather than walking it up which led to easy baskets and more open 3s. Our fast break points and points in transition DIED when Shai took the Ropes

    1. BlueDew

Most all upperclass players are again going out the door. We will have a team full of freshman again. Get used to it.

    2. FACTS

Wrong. We are going to have multiple players come back. Get your info right before you say something

  26. KentuckyVSEveryone

We NEED Quade back to show these young, hungry, athletic guards Cal’s way! And we definitely need Wenyen, PJ and Vanderbilt back of want ANY chance winning number 9. Something tells me I am dreaming to think that will happen…

    1. Ez21

We don’t need wenyen so much even though it would be nice to have him. We just need PJ, Vando, and Q.

  27. notFromhere

He’s not getting paid to coach, not on scholarship to sit the bench, either. Wish the coach could figure out a way to recruit him and use him more next year

  28. StuckinLville

We can say Booker, Towns, Davis, Cousins weren’t used properly but Cal was teaching them other aspects to their game. All 3 bigs didn’t want to get dirty in the paint and with a little development, look at their careers. Cal knows what he is doing but if a kid and their family doesn’t buy into what he is doing, then leaving is best. Some kids cant handle being forced into uncomfortable situations, Skal, and it doesn’t work out. He’s a good player and would be big for us next season but he’s gotta do what he’s gotta do.

  29. Kat4Life

Anyone who thinks our team will be better without Quade is simply wrong. A point guard with some experience is essential.

  30. Alleykat16

Stay and prove to all that you deserve to be here and your playing time. Improve every year and get your butt to the NBA. Don’t listen to outside noise and trust your abilities. Instead of running from competition for yor playing time welcome them in and do your thing. Stay here dont transfer
