Hamidou Diallo’s career at Kentucky is over, per Jon Rothstein of According to Rothstein and his multiple sources, Diallo will soon announce his plans to enter the draft and hire an agent.

It’s the news we expected out of Diallo all along, and we’re likely to hear it made official from Diallo very soon.

Diallo is projected as a second-round pick by most NBA draft services.

    Mean maxey is coming?

    1. Jiminy Crickets

Hami announces on same day maxey father fired (or let go) from SMU…….

    2. Alex90

So he’s probably already left school too. I know Matt says Knox is finishing up his classes but he can’t be a full time student doing everything from Florida.

  2. RajonTheDon9

Great news!! Thanks Hami!! Good luck!! Go kick some butt in NBA! BBN thanks you!!

  3. dballrb

    Well,there’s a surprise..

  4. lexslamman

Not surprised, if he can survive his first 2-4 years, Hami Diallo probably has a bright future in the NBA. It still feels like he’s not quite ready yet and would have benefited from a second season playing against D1 competition. I hope he succeeds and proves all the doubters wrong, though.

    1. Jiminy Crickets

If his shit doesn’t improve greatly, he’ll never see a NBA roster. His feel for the game is poor, he relies on his athletic ability. In the NBA he won’t be able to do that. I hope the very best for him, and wish him luck but he’s got a steep hill in front of him

    2. Jiminy Crickets

      Lol, shot not shit

    3. T-wah

      Well, that applies, too. ?

    4. BBNDan7

      Iman Shumpert has….

    5. dballrb

That is another way of putting Jiminy Crickets!..Too funny..

    6. SuperTroy18

I actually think he could really blossom in the NBA. College game doesn’t suit him. He could be special in the Association in a few years.

    7. plumloopy

Jiminy, your auto-correct turns “shot” to “shit?”

  5. Alex90

Why would a national writer have this story first?

    1. Jiminy Crickets

I love this site, but rarely does this site have a UK inside scoop. They seem to have a lot more moles at UL than at UK

    2. BigBlueMeade

Matt, many times, has held scoops for the benefit of players announcing themselves. If you know Matt speak, you can normally tell when he is hinting about a scoop.

    3. a21CATSfan

All KSR does is relay info. They are usually the last to post anything. There isn’t much breaking news if any around here. If you listen to Matt on the radio, be ready for a lot of I’s, me’s and my’s.

  6. Ben27

Expected, KY is going in a different direction. Shooters over Super Athletes! You can train a guy to shoot in one year. You can improve a shooter in one year. Diallo may well be the last non shooter at Kentucky for quite a while. Good luck!!

    1. UKinIN

I thought that too but from what I’ve read I don’t think Hagans or Maxey has a great shot either.

    2. Blublood41

      Hagans doesn’t, but Maxey does.

    3. Daddyof3Ballers

They are primarily ball handlers and creators, right? Imagine having two guys that can get in the paint anytime they want with Green, Hero, and Baker spitting up with bigs ready for lobs….sign me up!!

  7. Cousins Fake Tooth

    Projected 2nd round…enters draft
    ……scratching my head.

    1. a21CATSfan

There’s been some questionable decisions since Cal can to Kentucky. But a lot of them (Goodwin, Young, Briscoe, Diallo) are just clearing space for new talent.

  8. UKinIN

You do what you do Hamidou.

  9. Alleykat16

I like Hami dont get me wrong when I say this. I hate it if I’m right but could become the next Andre Ingram.

  10. mothandras

d/g league > another year at UK, be cool to keep someone from last years roster.

    1. Alex90

I think we are seeing what was wrong with last year’s team. Everyone except Shai thought they were going pro and had 1 foot out the door already while Shai outworked them. Shai earned where he’s at and I dont blame Knox but the rest of these guys are just delirious.

    2. UK Big Board Update

Nick Richards announced he is coming back.

    3. Jiminy Crickets

He has not announced. It was reported “per sources”, but nothing official has been reported

  11. shelby

Best of luck to hami; i hope he kills it at the next kebel.

    1. CatManDo

I know you meant “level” but kebel is a funny word and should be a real word.

  12. UKrulesall

He has no clue how to play basketball. Had two good games at UK. Can’t shoot and defense is suspect.
Seems like a lottery pick to me.

    1. UK Big Board Update

Probably wants to get away from all the negative fans who were criticizing him since the time he joined the team the season before last. Remember that? “He’s just using us.”

And I don’t blame him – “f*ck ’em, I don’t owe them shit, so I’ll go make *money* playing basketball *somewhere* else.”

    2. MadHatter

Definitely not nba ready, but that’s not the point. Try telling your 19 year old self you would turn down around a million dollars. Yeah..not happening.

  13. Randall lee

Heaven forbid crickets you say something negative. A bunch of these guys who are in love with these boys will be all over you.

    1. BBNDan7

You say nothing positive you bum

    2. UK Big Board Update

      Again, but in English please.

    3. Jiminy Crickets

Funny thing is I didn’t say anything negative. I don’t think Hami ever wanted to be here, which is why he waited till 11:59 to announce his return last year begging for a team to promise a first round draft. This year he argued and fought and pouted, many times arguing with cal on sideline, without a hint of remorse. If he wants to go to NBA, then go. He may get drafted 2nd round, or not at all. All I said was, unless he develops a shot, which in 1 1/2 years here he didn’t, he’ll never make a roster. The knock from NBA scouts during combine last year was he had “little to no feel for the game”, and that didn’t improve this year either.

Sometimes “negative” and hard truth get misconstrued, but some people here are so easily offended, they lash out at anything that doesnt sound like your waiving blue Pom-poms

  14. specks

Funny how a guy like Brunson that is 10 times better, knows how to actually play basketball, great leader and National Championship under his belt is projected around the same as Diallo. What a joke.

    1. UK Big Board Update

      Sucks for Brunson. LOL

  15. Catsby80

I’m all for guys chasing their dreams, but why hire an agent? It’s one thing to go to the combine and see if you can prove to the scouts that you’re ready to go, but to hire an agent and completely remove yourself from the opportunity to return to school when you’re a second round projected pick seems a little irresponsible. Don’t get me wrong, I hope he succeeds, but it would seem to me unless you’re a sure fire first round pick (a la Shai or Knox) then why hire an agent? See what the scouts say and if they tell you that you need another year in school, then listen to them… Best of luck to the kid, though. Hope he goes out and gets that money.

    1. Han

Isn’t there a rule about only testing the waters once? After that you have to stay in if you declare so you might as well hire an agent to help with the process.

    2. Peas and Carrots

I thought they mentioned before on this site it’s twice. Players are eligible for two combines and can declare / withdraw twice without losing eligibility.

  16. runningunnin.454

Dang, I was looking forward to Hami jumping center on our 5 guard lineup…ha ha.

  17. kjd

    Good luck!
I hope you are successful in mastering a jump shot.

  18. Randall lee

Big board is use to having a pair of big blue pom-poms bouncing off his chin.

    1. Booby Petrino

sounds like someone has a crush on big board. Best of luck with your crush, Randall.

  19. wildcat74

    Another delusional decision.

  20. Aar

IMHO, good decision. He turned a corner at the end of the season. Not just in his play but in learning how to learn and learning the effort required at the next level. He needs development to make an NBA roster but not a full year of college basketball. I think he’s ready for the summer and G leagues now. Since the NBA drafts on potential, it’s conceivable that he could go higher than currently projected. Even if he never makes the league, he’ll maximize his career basketball earnings overseas by turning pro now. What do I know, I’m just an idiotic fan wishing a former Cat the best in his future endeavors. Diallo was entertaining this season!

  21. Lip Man 1

Expected but like some of the other kids who turned pro (Archie Goodwin, Harrison twins) he’s not ready. Not by a long shot. Wish him well but he’ll have to live with the consequences especially if he is either drafted in the second round (non-guaranteed contract) or not drafted at all.

Not a great shooter, wildly inconsistent offensively. Great but very raw athleticism. Project at best.

  22. Han

He’s got to do what feels right to him. Many here selfishly want him back. Many say more college ball can help guys develope. But there are guys who don’t like the college experience and who really won’t improve with more time here, especially if there’s more competition for minutes. For those guys, They might as well get started on their career and learn in the G League or overseas. People call them kids but they’re adults and plenty of people have full time jobs and even families by the time they’re 20. College isn’t for everyone and a lot of people only figure that out after a few semesters.

  23. Matty Arbuckle

Just one more player that Cal would’ve given too many minutes to next year over younger guys who are better basketball players. Best of luck Hami!

  25. Sergeant

    I’m good with this

  26. lbaker0050

This is about as rich as the 5 star recruit for Syracuse recanting his commitment to them to play in the G-league.
