Pitino Describes Podcast with Calipari as “Fun”

pitino-calipari

The Cal Cast of the century has received plenty of hype since John Calipari announced on last night’s call-in show that Rick Pitino joined the program.

Today Pitino had the opportunity to describe the 45-minute discussion during a pregame press conference.  Just like Calipari, Pitino initially didn’t know what a podcast was.  Once he figured out it wasn’t a video, Pitino said he enjoyed his time talking on the phone with John Calipari.

“We had a lot of fun doing it.” Pitino said the two “talked about people we’ve crossed paths with that we’re very fond of. We laughed a lot.”

Laughter?!?!?!?!  Between Cal and Rick?  You gotta be kidding.

“I’ve never had a bad relationship with John,” he said.

Okay, Rick.  Now we’re the ones laughing.

I really think KSR (especially Roush) sometimes gets on a TMZ binge trying to make stories where there isn’t. Are they BFFs, no, but if things were that bad between the two then Cal wouldn’t have reached out and Pitino could of politely told Cal to go to hell and not do it.

I agree 100%! I get it though, Rick left UK for the NBA and then returned to college basketball to the one place that was not acceptable to UK fans, but lets not make it like these 2 HAVE to hate each other. They are 2 out of the current top 5 coaches in college ball! Im sure they respect each other a ton and also I would assume Cal at one point was envious of what Pitino had going here. Id say they have talked and kept in touch more than we know. There is a fraternity for these coaches and they are in a league of their own. I would assume they “get it” when another ask a favor like this podcast Pitino did for Cal. I for one am salivating at the chops to hear this!

Who knows what their true feelings for each other are but even if Rick hated Cal, I tend to agree with what Matt said today in that he had to agree to come on the podcast. If it got out that Cal had invited him on and Rick had turned him down, that’s a bad PR move for Rick.

and you really think Rick cares about PR? Give me a break. If Rick didn’t want to do it, he would’ve said no. KSR just has to act like a gossiping high schooler and make a story out of nothing.

If those are your feelings about KSR then why are you one of the people who has to comment on nearly every post? Regardless, I think Rick cares about his image. And for whatever reason, these two have gone out of their way to show that they don’t have any ill will towards each other. Might be true but few seem to think it is.

Calipari and Pitino are trying to show positivity between coaches and yet others. (media, blogs) want to keep the wedge.

Please don’t try and make me like Rick or Lville, no fun in that. You can be a fan of both and that’s ok. I know plenty of people that are fans of who ever is winning. Let the rivalry live .

Pitino has a lot more to gain from a friendship with Cal than the other way, in my opinion. In some ways I would love to see Pitino improve his image before he retires. Pitino is a HOF coach and has a great career on the court. He’s had plenty of issues, and many were his own fault, but he does deserve some respect for the things he’s done on the court. I’d like to see him retire with some respect. Maybe that’s what Cal is trying to help him do….
