Only 1 of ESPN’s 27 experts pick UK to make Final 4

What does the national media make of Kentucky’s chances in the NCAA Tournament? Only one of the college basketball experts over at ESPN picked the Cats to make the Final Four. Alex Scarborough has Kentucky, Villanova, Michigan State, and North Carolina going to San Antonio, with Villanova cutting down the nets.

Meanwhile, 15 experts have Virginia advancing out of the South Region, although most of them probably wish they could get a do-over after this afternoon’s news that Cavaliers guard De’Andre Hunter will miss the tournament with a broken wrist:

Virginia loses key player for the NCAA Tournament

Michigan State is the most popular National Champion pick, followed by Virginia and Villanova. Check out all the picks at the link below:

Every year it seems the majority of experts pick Michigan State, saying how great Izzo is. I can’t figure out why they think he is the second coming of Wooden. I realize they play hard, rebound well every year, and he is a very good coach but the results don’t match all the love in my opinion.

    1. syrin23

The guy won ONE championship EIGHTEEN YEARS ago. I don’t get it either. Plus they got whacked by Michigan.

  2. syrin23

These “experts” don’t seem to appreciate the UK team for seven of the past eight games is no where near the same team they were before. We are playing elite level defense, the kind that wins championships. However, I think we really need Vanderbilt against Arizona. What is with this guy? He gets hurt, his dad texts and said it’s no big deal, then we have one of the guys here at KSR say they think we’ve seen him play his last game as a Cat. WTF?

    1. maximumscott

It comes down to “if your not 100 percent, then your hurting the team” by not being a 100 then you wont play to your true potential. Its better to have a guy that is 100 percent in place of him. Vando is probably 80-90 percent right now. We dont need him to beat Zona. We match up well with them and their style. With only 2 days prep, I feel Zona would be at a disadvantage trying to figure out how to simulate our length and athleticism. There isnt a team in the Pac 12 built like UK. UK on the other hand has played similar teams to Zona but non with a dominant big man. The good thing is that we have 2 nearly 7 footers that can play and if Ayton goes out with fouls. Lool for Cal to put his smaller more offensive minded group in to build a lead.

    2. syrin23

Yeah, then why isn’t he wearing a boot? This is the same kid who was medically cleared to play earlier in the year then sat out for months. Cal started talking publicly about his frustration with him not playing, then he is in a game a week later. This whole thing is strange.

And no, we haven’t faced a team like Arizona. They have several big men, TALENTED big men. We don’t. We have guys who can’t rebound or play defense, and do nothing offensively. WHo is Ayton going to foul? Richards? Richards might as well not be on the floor for all his contributions against players half Ayton’s size. Vanderbilt could rebound well against Ayton. Who else do we have that you can say that about?

    3. jaws2

      Then don’t bother to watch!

    4. Big Meech

Ayton is not on Davidson’s team last time I checked, I hope u aren’t questioning jv’s toughness. Guy is all hustle and heart

    5. syrin23

What I am saying is that without JV’s toughness, we are going to be hurting against Arizona. Washington likely will get in foul trouble.

    6. Atg2112

Syrin, if all you can do is call out a bunch of kids who are doing their best (to much success as of late by the way), there’s like 60 other teams you can go cheer for bud. Ayton IS for sure better than any of our big men, thing is though, he’s also better than ANY team’s big men. JV would be great to have, but our boys will do great with or without him. Also, in one comment you call out JV’s commitment and toughness, then I’m next comment say we cannot win without his toughness??? You can’t be a pimp and a prostitute too man. Unlike you, JV has potential millions and millions of dollars riding on that ankle and UK has a tournament run depending on his ankle…if it’s not 100%, then it does absolutely no one any good whatsoever. I bet if you had a son who was a phenomenal artist who will make millions of dollars off what his right hand can do with a paintbrush, you wouldn’t be so quick to push him back to his unpaid internship drawing carricutures for the school newspaper if it meant it could put in jeopardy his professional drawing career later on down the line. These kids don’t owe the fans anything other than their commitment and to do the best they can to help our team win. In no way should they be expected to jeopardize their entire career for the possibility to maybe, just maybe, win us one game or two. These one year players everyone gripes about around here give us just as much effort, hustle, and love as any 4 year player would. If you were a head coach, who would you take if you had your pick…Dominique Hawkins, or Malik Monk? Derek Willis or Julius Randle? I know you said nothing about one and done issue, but folks like you questioning these kids toughness and dedication has gotten old and tiresome, and the arguments hold very little water. Enjoy these kids and the ride they give us while you can. Remember, this is just a physical GAME kids are playing for fun and entertainment, I promise that whether or not UK loses to Davidson or Arizona, the sun will still rise the next day and there will still (hopefully for you) be tons of things in your life that really do matter that will still make you happy. Criticize all you want, that’s some of the fun of fandom, but speculating on what a kid is thinking and suggesting, without even one shred of evidence to support your claim, that something is fishy about a kid’s motives is just lame bullshit on your end…unless you’re in high school, then I guess making up rumors to fit a narrative you want to push is somewhat acceptable. But really, once you turn 18 or so, cut that shit out.

    7. syrin23

Thanks for the long preachy lecture. Care to explain why his dad tweeted it was nothing serious, “bud”? If he’s hurt, he’s hurt, then DON’T tweet, “It’s not serious” followed by missing the whole NCAA tournament, “bud”. In game toughness he has. A willingness to play through pain I question, and I bet a lot of NBA execs are asking the same questions. Hey “bud”, he was CLEARED BY DOCTORS to play, then sat out 2-3 more months purely on his decision. That looks great to an NBA exec taking a pic, doesn’t it. Guy tweeks and ankle after signing a contract and sits the rest of the season? No thanks. “bud”. And you are wrong. If he can play, he owes the school who gave him a scholarship to play. Guess that fell out of your lengthy incoherence, right? His dad’s tweet = shred of evidence. Medical clearance = shred of evidence. Maybe by shred you mean an a’ton of evidence.

    8. syrin23

Ask every kid at UK taking student loans how much that scholarship is worth, you know, the one you equate to an “unpaid internship”. Sweet Jesus. People like you really think we are here for player development, and not to win. *golf clap*

    9. Atg2112

Hey numbnuts, your argument is invalid because we do win, in fact, as much, if not more than anyone else in college ball since Cal got here. Take your salty butt on our of here man, people like me are just fans, no matter what, and we always support our team AND our players. We just wish people like you would say what the problem is that’s really bugging you…not enough players with your skin tone and high level basketball IQ at Kentucky for your liking. We all know that’s what really makes you mad. Also, any regular old student that pays all four years tuition out of pocket is doing college wrong. If regular UK students a) put in half the effort to be great at their particular field as these ball players do, they would get scholarships, and b) when little Jamie and the biology department start bringing in millions upon millions of dollars annually to UK just by chargi g people to watch their science experiments, then we can talk about these regular students and their financial woes that you’ve suddenly decided to speak for. Game over bud, you lost, we would be paid you if you woulda won, but you lost. Now take that big ads home and brush that tooth.

  3. maximumscott

We will go to the Final Four. BC this year would be the year.

  4. runningunnin.454

The boys from Highland Heights lead UL by seven at the half…or at the 2nd qtr break or something.
Oh, and I think we’re Final Four bound if we get past Zona.

    1. henderblue

      I agree with you

  5. Lip Man 1

The experts are right, this is a down year for UK compared to their past history. It happens, they’ll be better next year after only losing Alexander and Knox to the NBA draft.

“One and Done” (Maybe) this year in the tournament.

  6. BBN_strive_4_9

I think the UK-Zona game determines who makes it out of the south

  7. BigBlueNationDude

    Smart analysis

  8. BigBlueNationDude

Bold prediction and cal even said in an interview ” theyve seen him play they have plenty of tape” . Cals comments on Vanderbilt. Hes probably gone and wont play again. This is an nba development program not a college. Even so I think they are better without Vanderbilt. Now read 4 evers comments below. “Idiot” ” moron” ” waste to humanity”.

    1. KYcats11

      Idiot

    2. catsarerunnin

Aren’t you weighing in on the wrong tourney Slater? UL is in YOUR favorite tourney. The NIT.

    3. Atg2112

      Moron

    4. Atg2112

Also, since Cal got here, only two teams have won more championships than us, and they’ve won 2 a piece and they are every bit as much of an “NBA development team” as you say we are. Hell man, shouldn’t every college team ideally be an NBA development team? Afterall, isn’t it every little boy’s dream to be Micheal Jordan and play in the NBA the second they pick up a ball and fall in love with the game? Or are you just so far beyond driven that you don’t care even in the slightest about these kids who literally go out there and bleed for Kentucky, whether it be for one year or four?

Also, you’re most definitely a waste to humanity. And you’re either a huge loser troll, a ul fan, or you’re just an old fart that fears change…possibly all three. At any rate, I fully support your right to criticize as much as you do, cool thing about this country is that it’s your right to say whatever you want, whenever you want without fear of punishment…but on the same line, when you start spewing your verbal diarrhea, full of negativity and weak arguments, we have a right to call out your mediocre attempts at hot takes and call you an idiot and moron and waste to humanity. If you don’t like that, and you spend your evenings crying in the shower wondering why the folks over at your favorite website don’t like to play with you and say mean things about you, perhaps you should spend some more time better articulating your nonsense and thinking it through before you go doling out advice and reasons why UK sucks. Most of us here probably are in the wrong though, we have this crazy idea we should root for the Cats win, lose, or draw…aka, being real fans. I know this response is long, but I’ve been away and haven’t had time to rake you and your dumb takes over the coals for a couple weeks. Consider this a response to what I assume were dozens of other stupid things you’ve said lately with the fervor and intelligence of a jealous middle school girlfriend. When I say jealous middle school girlfriend, I mean like when you first seriously started dating a girl when you were in middle school and you really upset her because you sat a little too close to Sally on the bus ride for a field trip, not the middle school girlfriend your 50 year old ass is currently searching Facebook and topix for in between deep hand dives into your family sized bag of jalapeno cheese doodles and and the 30 gulps of monster energy drink you take every 5 minutes. I hope we can still be friends.

    5. BigBlueNationDude

      Haha. Wow. Butt hurt?

    6. abobicesaevior

BBND, you seem to focus exclusively on the male butt. Wonder why?

    7. BigBlueNationDude

Who are you? You dont have enough rep to be talking to me.

    8. BigBlueNationDude

Sad thing is your older than me likely. Im nowhere near 50

    9. henderblue

      He’s 12

    10. BigBlueNationDude

Im hurt by these comments. Im gonna cry in the shower now with my doodles?

    11. abobicesaevior

Nothing haven’t done before. I’m certain showering is a great idea considering your preferred activities.

    12. Atg2112

If you’re inquiring about my age bbdouche, I’m 36. I hope you are younger than me, it would explain your lacking education and grammar, it would also explain what you’re mom did with the results of our one nighter

    13. antiquefurnitureandmidgets

You’re partially right. It’s a player development program. Growth for players isn’t limited to those who are NBA bound. Not sure what’s not collegiate about that.

  9. BigBlueNationDude

Ever heard of paragraphs atg? You mad bro

    1. Atg2112

Nah, not. Sorry, but I’m on mobile and didn’t have time to space sentences out, ya know, like you and how you don’t use apostrophe’s, or how you don’t know the difference between your and you’re…something like that. Just felt like coming on here and calling you out, again, for what a pathetic excuse you are…Going and others are probably getting bored with owning you so much, so I thought I’d step in and give them a break for a night, don’t worry, they’ll be back to owning you and your ignorance tomorrow.

    2. BigBlueNationDude

Not the first wont be the last. Just make your statements shorter. I hate reading. Newbie

    3. catsarerunnin

I hate reading one word from you slater.

  10. TB112162

I sure would like to have JV this week but it is what it is we are 17-3 without him and 7-7 with him so we showed we can win with the other guys and on a big stage
