They call it “Christmas in July.” Every year since 1990, a group of Kentucky fans meet at a church in a small town outside of Cincinnati to talk their beloved Wildcats.

The convention will return on July 20th for its 30th year, the last for director Jim Porter, an avid Kentucky fan who has season tickets and attends most UK home games.

The lead up to this year’s convention is being highlighted by the Journal-News, a newspaper for Butler County, Ohio.

They describe the events as this:

The convention lasts seven hours, but it takes months to organize. Porter lines up the special UK speakers and solicits area businesses for door prizes and silent auction items. All this work so about 135 Kentucky fans can gather the third Saturday every July to reminisce about the university’s storied sports history and dissect every football and basketball recruit.

The event has a keynote speaker every year and only two haven’t lived up to expectations. One, a UK Football assistant, was fired the next year. Another, a former basketball player who had a D1 coaching position, that was fired the next year.

This year, the keynote speakers will be Mike Pratt, Reggie Hanson and Maci Morris.

With it being just across the river, this would be a perfect spot for the most forgotten UK fans in Northern Kentucky to talk their beloved Cats.
