LaVar Ball pulls LiAngelo out of UCLA

Kentucky will face UCLA in New Orleans later this month, but the Bruins will be without LiAngelo Ball and his outspoken father LaVar. TMZ is reporting that LaVar has pulled his son LiAngelo out of school because he believes the program’s punishment for LiAngelo’s shoplifting incident in China is too harsh.

“There’s no need to break down a kid’s spirit for making a mistake,” Ball told TMZ.

LiAngelo was a freshman this season, and, due to his indefinite suspension, never played a game. After the incident in China, he reportedly never returned to school and missed all of his classes.

Merry Christmas, Steve Alford.

There’s some great news for ucla

  2. catsarerunnin

Yeah I mean it was only shoplifting in China. No biggie. I’m sure Mr. Mouth has stolen more.

    1. RealCatsFan

Yeah, no big deal that the POTUS had to get involved to bail my ass out of Chinese jail!

    2. Kernel Sanders

He was never in jail. In fact, while he continued to stay at the hotel, he wasn’t even restricted to stay in it. Geez, this is so overblown. Kid was never going to be harshly punished.

    3. catsarerunnin

It was a automatic 10 years in a Chinese prison.

  3. JTHinton

At least he admitted that LiAngelo made a mistake. Progress, I guess.

  4. Smyrna_Cat

Perhaps he will teach Lonzo how to shoot.

  5. ClutchCargo

Maybe quit signing Ball boys? Not sure why Alford felt the need to bring that 3 ring circus back for a 2nd show anyway.

  6. TBW3011

So now what’s the kid going to do? He’s a DII talent.

    1. Mathlete

      Not get drafted

    2. catsarerunnin

In what would be a ironic twist he could start working in a Chinese restaurant.

    3. yitbos93640

The really ironic thing is if he doesn’t get drafted and has to play in the chinese league!

  7. Daddyof3Ballers

Lavar Ball is why I dislike the Lakers…I was a fan. He’s annoying, arrogant, ridiculous and just rude. I want everyone to succeed in life, besides ppl like him

    1. Eazy

      Agreed. Same as Donald Trump.

    2. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

If you’re saying he fails you’re saying you hope America fails.

    3. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Oops. I mean if you’re saying you hope he fails you’re saying you hope America fails.

    4. RealCatsFan

cg, I’m not a fan of Trump or a lot of his policies. To say that I want some of those policies to fail is not to say that I want America to fail. Likewise, the people (including Mitch McConnell) who said they wanted Obama to fail didn’t necessarily want America to fail, did they?

Not sure it you had the sarcasm font on when you typed that. In any case, I’m registered as an Independent so I guess I can be an equal opportunity disliker. 🙂

    5. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Yes, sarcasm there. Rush Limbaugh was clear in that he hoped Obama failed in implementing his policies because they are bad for America. In other words, Obama failing = America succeeding.

I’ve said dozens of times here that I definitely don’t like everything about Trump and was a Ted Cruz guy, but there was no way I wanted Killary appointing SCOTUS justices. Trump hit a home run with Gorsuch, and hopefully will again if given the chance.

    6. runningunnin.454

cg, you’re right; if someone wants the President to fail because he/she is the “wrong” party…then they are rooting for the country to fail. I voted against Obama twice; but, I had no ill will toward him…I didn’t like his policies; but, I supported him and wanted him to do well.
There’s a lot about Trump that annoys me, like the twitter wars…very childish; but, he is having a positive effect on the economy.

    7. catsarerunnin

      Agree totally runnin.

    8. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

I don’t totally agree RG. I’m more in line with RCF and Rush. Rush’s point when he said “I hope he fails” was basically that he disagreed with O’s policies and therefore hoped they wouldn’t pass.

Anyway, I mostly just wanted to needle Eazy a bit.

  8. Sentient Third Eye

The kid created an INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT. How is the punishment not justified.

  9. Eazy

He would be perfect for Louisville. Probably wants him to go to a program that will make the tournament at least once in the next 4 years, though.

    1. D0nc0smic

I think you mean “be eligible to go the NCAA tournament”

  10. Wildcat72

He’s lucky the ChiCom government didn’t cut off his hand for stealing.

  11. Willis talkin bout....

Translation: I’ll pull him out before the destroys any market value he has left after getting arrested for stealing. Because he is not good enough of a player for UCLA to over look it. And I can’t imagine they want to put up with his douchebag father. Now we will all get to hear about how he was victimized.. can’t wait for the other one to wash out of the NBA so they can all disappear…

  12. JaxWildcat

I hope the other two players do well when they get back and that UCLA has a good year, with the exception of playing UK of course, without a Ball on the team.

  13. Sentient Third Eye

Kudos to Steve Alford for holding his players to a standard, though. He could have straightened this kid up had LaVar allowed it to happen.

    1. Blue Bill

Glad brad has the inside scoop.

  14. 4everUKblue

Did anyone not see this coming?

  15. BeejeCat

If we haven’t said it before, THANK YOU TRUMP for bringing back this gem of an American citizen.

  16. BeejeCat

In case we forgot, THANK YOU TRUMP for bringing this model of an American citizen back to the United States.

    — LiAngelo will play professionally in China for the year for all the headline-grabbing reasons. Enters the 2018 draft, goes undrafted, Lakers won’t touch him, goes back to China.

    — By the time LaMelo is done with HS the one-and-done rule will be taken off the table so naturally he’ll declare right out of HS. He won’t get an invite to the green room at the draft but will show up with his family anyway. He’ll go undrafted as well, joins his brother in China.

    — Big Baller Bootlegs will be the #1 seller in China.

    1. 4everUKblue

LaMelo is being home schooled by his big mouth father, so not sure how that will all work.

    2. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

      binary FTW! Hilarious!

  18. Swizzle

Ole poop tooth pops strikes again.

  19. shelby

Maybe he can play for trump university…if lavar praises and thanks almighty trump

    1. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

If Killary was president she would have let him rot in jail and then said “What difference does it make?!”

    2. RealCatsFan

Nah, she would bail him out as long as she could use it as an opportunity for good publicity. That is the number one thing for ANY politician. If it benefits them, they are all over it, otherwise, forget it.

  20. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

Lavar seems to think his kids are above playing anywhere but Hollywood, so maybe Li and La can play for Loyola Marymount.

    1. 4everUKblue

How about LaMelo to LaGrange and LiAngelo to LiNdsey Wilson?

  21. BlueHeaven

Trojan Condom’s or some Chinese Brand need to put LaVar and his sons on the package. If there ever was a face for birth control that would be it.

  22. RealCatsFan

LaVar Ball is exhibit A of why smart college coaches (in any sport) always take a look at the parents before deciding to offer a scholarship to a recruit. There are plenty of athletes who have had their career derailed because of obsessive, overbearing, helicopter parents, and LaVar is the poster child for this. I actually feel a little sorry for his kids because they might not be bad people at the core. I have to worry about even Lonzo squandering his NBA earnings and pissing away his future, because he hasn’t exactly had a good role model for responsible behavior.

  23. Philthy

If Alford is lucky maybe this will cause Ball #3 to decommit from UCLA

    1. 4everUKblue

If he’s really smart he will withdraw the scholarship offer.

  24. runningunnin.454

I always liked Alford…love the pure shooters.
He has the chance to be the big winner here…get rid of Lavar, forever.

  25. Kat4Life

I’m sure the programs will be lining up to recruit those two. He’ll be lucky to walk on iat Idaho State

  26. meeksfor3

“There’s no need to break down a kid’s spirit for making a mistake,” Ball told TMZ. or in other words they ain’t going to punish no big baller.

  27. Brad

The fact y’all keep saying trump bailed him out of Chinese prison cracks me up… he put in a good word when kid was going to come home anyway lolololololol

  28. Kevin C

    It’s a shame LaVar’s dad didn’t pull out 50 yrs ago….
