Knox: “I don’t like the checkerboard. They need to get rid of those.”

Add another name to the long list of players who don’t like Kentucky’s checkerboard uniforms.

Kevin Knox told KSR on Tuesday, “I’m not a big fan of the checkerboards. Some of the players talked about it throughout this year; we just didn’t like it. We didn’t like the checkerboard at all. It just didn’t look good.”

After suggesting a black alternate uniform, Knox went back for more checkerboard criticism by adding, “I don’t like the checkerboard. They need to get rid of those. They gotta get rid of those.”

A couple of weeks ago, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said the same thing. He told KSR, “I don’t like the checkerboard. I’m not feeling it. At all.”

Like you, Gilgeous-Alexander thinks UK’s uniforms are awful

Knox and Gilgeous-Alexander join an anti-checkerboard group that includes former players De’Aaron Fox, Trey Lyles and Devin Booker.

Does it really matter what they think? They only wear them for a few months anyway then off they go.

    1. BBNDan7

      Yes it matters

    2. willmenser

They wear them longer than you ever will

  2. John Henry

Well I am happy for Knox, he will not have to wear them again. Somebody is on a crusade to get the uniforms changed. Nike says NO.

    1. kylebsanders7

Yeah, but none of the guys like them. Its every 5 star player not being a fan of them vs who? Mitch Barnhart? Unless he plans on suiting up and leading our team to banner #9, let’s get some better jerseys. I’m all for alt uniforms, black and gray. All of my UK clothing comes in blue, white, black, and gray, why not? Swaggy Cal can at least do better than the checkered flag pattern.

ding ding genius winner of the year. The reason we don’t have number 9 is the uniform. Nice job moron. The reason we don’t have number 9 is we have no experienced leadership. But we have draft picks.

Why do you comment on everything? Go away you miserable POS go follow Harvard if you want 4 year players. UK will always recruit the best no matter if they stay 1 year or 4. Times changed about 15 years ago and you still haven’t caught up.

I want the old denim jerseys with some new school flare! Anyone else miss those maybe I just Love my Levi’s that much!

      Nah, Buddy Lee’s!!

      Toughskins.

  4. CatManDo

The checkerboard uniform is the worst decision since New Coke.

    1. Mathlete

New Coke was a clever ruse to let Coca Cola switch from cane sugar to high fructose corn syrup

  5. Kat4Life

Remember the icicles from 1996 ?

  6. Catlogic15

Crazy all this talk about the checkerboard. Uniforms don’t win, or lose, games.

    1. Mathlete

They might cost a recruit who doesn’t want to look like an oversized jockey for a year

    2. Alex90

Jersey style seemed to have an effect on players/recruits at Oregon in football…same concept

  7. CoachCat

    No. It doesn’t matter

    1. TonyMontana

If it doesn’t matter then lets go ahead and get rid of them. I’ve never been a huge fan of them, they dont disgust me or anything. But if all of our players hate them, that means all of the recruits hate them also.

Do we want to impress our recruits? Do we want them to feel satisfied with what they are wearing? *Style ranks higher than tradition when it comes to uniforms.*

  8. Daddyof3Ballers

I agree. Get rid of them!!

  9. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

For all of you who say it doesn’t matter, IT MATTERS TO RECRUITS. I don’t hate the checkerboards (although I do hate the feminine cut of the neckline), but a LOT of these players care about the threads. Some only want a Nike school, etc. Is it a HUGE factor? Probably not, but you’re fooling yourself if you think the players don’t look at this.

    1. SuperTroy18

I agree. I don’t really mind them TOO much; but if the recruits and players mind them, CHANGE THEM!! We are a flagship school for Nike! Give us some cutting edge stuff. Kids will jump at the chance to play in those threads! I like seeing alternate jerseys. I especially like updated versions of retro and vintage looks. I think Rondo’s team wore a throwback look from the 70’s one game or something maybe? Let’s change things up!

  10. JTHinton

The picture in the left isn’t a uniform we’ve worn

    1. JTHinton

It has the 2016 collar with the current checkerboards

    2. JTHinton

Plus the lettering is slightly off

  11. bluecrowe

It does matter since it would matter to the recruits, but I cannot pretend it makes me happy to see kids who stay for 5 months talk about the uniforms. 🙂 Comeback and actually accomplish something besides losing to a 13 seed and then we can talk about how the uniforms make you feel. I also really hope we do not show up in an alternate black jersey. I feel that would really signify the beginning of the end.

    1. KayutsBy90

Who lost to a 13 seed?

    2. chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door

But KSR asked him a question and he answered it. He wasn’t shouting from the mountaintops and starting a Change.org petition.

    3. SuperTroy18

If I recall, the alternate black jersey was out of respect to the death of Bill Keightly earlier that year.

  12. ziplock

Only 60% trolls. We’re doing better!

  13. Jiminy Crickets

Why can’t we compromise. Keep checkerboard (I hate them) but make them so the colors blend into the jersey so it’s not so loud. The blue road jerseys with those whit checkers are awful. Just make them a shiny blue, or black so they don’t pop off the screen. More than that can we get uniforms that actually fit, they look so tight it looks uncomfortable, plus that Vneck needs to go. Surely Nike sees this, so is it ALL Mitch?

  14. ziplock

If we decide to do a black then do a version of the old Marquette bumble bees
