KenPom projects the final SEC Standings with one month left

It is crazy to think that we are getting closer and closer to the end of this season. In fact, there are only 7 regular season games remaining for Kentucky.

One of the better indicators of how good teams are, if you’re a stats nerd like me, is KenPom ratings. The systems ranks teams based on a mass of different criteria including offensive and defensive efficiency.

With it being a computer based ranking system, it will continuously update after games and will predict what the final standings will be for the SEC.

As of this morning, here is what the rating system says:

What this would mean for Kentucky, would be an opening round game against South Carolina or Arkansas. Then playing either LSU or Auburn in the semifinals.

Personally, the only team out of that four that remotely scares me is LSU. I’m not sure how the Kentucky big men will match up in the post with Naz Reid. Reid Travis’ biggest issue all season has been when he plays against someone who is long and athletic and Naz Reid is both of those things.

This might put the focus on PJ Washington, Nick Richards and EJ Montgomery to shut down one of the more underrated post players in the SEC.

Overall though, you can sign me up for that section of the SEC bracket, although switching places with Tennessee and instead having to play Mississippi State/Florida and the Alabama/Ole Miss does sound appealing as well.

Is it time for March yet? I can barely wait.

There are eight regular season games remaining, not seven.

Good call Katfan. KSR needs a quality control person to go over articles before posting them!

Hey, then they couldn’t say “facts are optional”!

We’ll find out about LSU in 48 hours but I think two things will be huge factors in that matchup. LSU tends to dig very deep holes early – worse than UK early this season. Also, these Cats have become great defensively in the second half (except for yesterday on the road). Since LSU closes out games very well, I think this really is a game about UK getting up early and not letting the Tigers back in it. Go Big Blue, beat LSU.

If all LSU has inside is one guy…he’s gonna be worn plum out by the middle of the second half by UK 4 bigs….
