Your long week is over and the weekend is finally here, Big Blue Nation. And what better way to celebrate than with another SEC matchup for your beloved Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena this evening?

Let’s get into the nitty gritty.

Snowmageddon Is Upon Us

Before we dive into the game, let me warn you that traffic is going to be a nightmare around Lexington throughout the day. Why?

If you look outside your window, you’ll see we had our first snowfall of the winter season last night. According to our good friend Chris Bailey at WKYT (and his retweeting of folks submitting pictures of ruler measurements), anywhere from 1/2 inch to 2 inches of snow can be found throughout the Lexington area.

The temperature is supposed to rise and the snow should melt as we lead into tip-off, but you just never know with the weather around here. As a result, please be careful in your adventures navigating your way through the city today.

Now onto the good stuff…

What should we know about Vanderbilt?

Sitting at 9-5 on the year, the Commodores are currently ranked 10th in the SEC, with losses against Kent State, North Carolina State, Kansas State, Ole Miss, and Georgia.

With star freshman point guard Darius Garland out for the year with a torn meniscus in his left knee, Vanderbilt is struggling to find its identity. They’ve lost three of their last five games, including the two-game losing streak they are currently on.

Four Commodores average ten or more points per contest, led by star freshman forward Simi Shittu at 14.6 points per game on 51 percent shooting, to go with 8.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest.

Sophomore guard Saben Lee (12.2 PPG), senior guard Joe Toye (10.6 PPG), and junior forward Matt Ryan (10.2 PPG) round out the double-digit scorers.

As a team, Vanderbilt is shooting just 33.7 percent from three, good for fourth-worst in the SEC. With 335 total attempts, though, the Commodores have taken the fourth-most shots from deep in the conference.

We’ll have a few in-depth breakdowns of Kentucky’s opponent in just a bit.

Even coming off a loss against Alabama and a sloppy victory over Texas A&M this past week, the oddsmakers out in Las Vegas still love the Cats in this one.

The line opened at -13 in favor of Kentucky, and it has held steady from there on all major betting outlets.

After seeing the madness that came at the end of Kentucky’s win over Texas A&M, we encourage folks to bet wager responsibly.

Kentucky legend Mike Pratt facing “health challenges”

In not-so-positive news…

Yesterday evening, Louisville radio personality Bob Valvano sent out a tweet indicating former Kentucky star and UK Hall of Fame member Mike Pratt was “facing some health challenges.”

We don’t know the severity of the health concerns, but the KSR family certainly sends our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I think he’s been sipping on the meteorologists’ Kool-aid. Glad I already have enough toilet paper, milk and bread.
