Erin Calipari schools bartender talking smack about her dad

It’s no secret we’re big fans of Erin Calipari. Not only is Calipari’s eldest daughter the best source for stories about her family, she doesn’t take crap from anybody, especially her father’s haters. One New York bartender/blogger learned that lesson the hard way.

Earlier this week, The Sports Turf’s Joselph Dalfonso recalled how he was bashing Calipari with a patron last April, calling him  a “cheat,” a “crook,” and “scum of the earth,” when Erin, sitting in a booth behind them, spoke up.

As my rant continued, a woman sitting in a booth behind Mary, turned toward me and asked who I thought was a good coach. First guy to pop to my head was Mike Kryzewski.

Ok, yes I am a Duke fan but that’s not significant for this story.

She snickered at that statement and then proceeded to say Coach K can’t even get out of the first round of March Madness. I rebutted but she continued by bringing up Mercer, VCU, Lehigh. Not wanting to be remembered of previous heartbreaks, I cut her off by asking if she was UNC fan. I was ready to take her on in an epic debate about college basketball, knowing no UNC fan was a match for me. What she said next was completely unexpected.

“No, I’m John Calipari’s daughter.”

BURN. Little did he know that Erin had been tweeting about him the entire time.

Dalfonso apologized to Erin via Twitter and she forgave him, but I think it’s safe to say he’ll look over his shoulder the next time he even thinks of saying a bad word about Cal.

Read his account of the entire incident at I can’t wait to ask Erin, now an assistant professor at Vanderbilt, about it on Saturday.

I love her! Maybe she should take some of the Cal bashers on here on too.

I say K is overrated because he has had the best talent year in and year out well before the one and done era, not to mention the best tournament path EVERY year, gets most of the calls and non calls. Oh and he is in his 38th season at the same college. Do you think a UK player could stomp a dUKe player’s chest and not get ejected? No way in hell! Last title run Justise Winslow stuck his foot in the chest of a player on two separate occasions while driving with the ball….guess what? No call, stepped out of bounds against Wisconsin….no call. There are many more examples but I don’t have the time.

Not only that, when the vampire is gone, Duke will slide into mediocrity. Much like UCLA after Wooden left – sporadic success every ten years or so, but no sustained excellence. Kentucky, by contrast, has maintained their dominance over 6 decades and 5 head coaches. No other program can touch that!

Recall back in the 90s when coach K was out most of the season with hip/back issues, they didn’t even make the tourney..The drop off could be very steep when coach retires..Jay Williams would be a good coach,IMO,Jay calls it as he sees it,and has been very complimentary of Kentucky and Cal during his time broadcasting so far.

People really argue that Kentucky is not the best program in the country? Laughable

Yeah, who’s the heir-apparent at Duke? Capel. And we’ve seen how he does as a head coach. Duke’s in for a rude awakening when K retires and some of the teflon goes with him.

When Cal bows out here, we’ll undoubtedly have a down period, but we’ll return to the mountaintop because we’re a program with a history of excellence, not a program dependent on one coach.

And…..there were 8 seasons they didn’t make it out of the sweet 16. You guys are right on target.

I want Wojo and maybe Wayne Turner can help him find his jockstrap.

Now that’s funny I don’t care who you are.

You may not like Coach K but given his record and the number of rings he has, it’s pretty hard to argue that he’s not the most accomplished coach in the game today.

    1. 4everUKblue

You obviously did not read what I said above. Several coaches would have the same or better records and rings given the same set of circumstances given above.

    Hate to agree
