Calipari’s Vegas altercation was with Mick Cronin

On his podcast yesterday afternoon, Gary Parrish told a story of Calipari confronting another head coach in Las Vegas after hearing that coach was running his mouth about Calipari’s recruiting. As Parrish tells it, Cal swooped in and took a recruit the other coach had been recruiting for years, and the coach was going around making accusations of how Cal pulled it off. Here’s the whole story here.

We are pretty convinced that other coach was Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin and the recruit was Marquis Teague. We believe that to be true because Parrish told the same story five years ago, with names. Matt wrote about it in a 2010 post here. (And apparently we had forgotten about it until last night.)

Mystery solved.

“Be appreciative every time I don’t come in and get your guy” is a bad ass line. Savage life, man.

Cal should play Don Corleone in a reboot of “The Godfather”.

Just one more reason Cincinnati players were so salty during the tournament last year. Well, that and playing for Ohio State’s version of Little Brother.
