Calipari says it’s on him to transform the team

calipari-olemiss

After another good night’s sleep, John Calipari is over the LSU loss and is looking for ways to help his team move forward. As he often does in times like these, Calipari posted a blog about the state of the program and how it’s his responsibility to transform the group, not his players’:

This transformation begins with a coach’s vision of what the team and individuals’ best version looks like, and having an unrelenting will to have the team work toward that vision. They must buy in! Eventually, the team feels empowered because they “get it” and can play together with a common goal. They accept roles, they have fun playing and they look for incremental improvement daily.

I believe in this team of players. We have to work toward empowering them. THAT’S ON ME! It’s a process. Let’s get to work!

Yada yada Cal, yada yada process. To read the full post, head over to CoachCal.com.

I’d think the “BEST VERSION” of Skal is to let him play the 3 and stop trying to develop him as a true post up guy … that is not who he is. Briscoe should be playing back up minutes to Ulis as well. Starting 5 could be Ulis, Murray, Skal, Poythress and Lee.

Backups would be Hawkins/Briscoe/Mulder for guards, Willis for Skal, Humphries and Wynyard for Poythress and Lee.

This team has talent, skill and experience at every position. The problem SEEMS to be the wrong guys are playing too much or playing out of position.

I know, I know…maybe UK should hire me since I know more than Cal…(sarcasm)

I like the fact Coach is taking this on him. I personally felt after Tuesdays rout of UK, Cal needed to take full blame. I think this is a good sign to come

I think we need to get that three man weave with the guards going out front, and look to attack to the rim/or shoot out of it. I think finding effective ways to aggressively attack east-west is the only way (other than hitting 3’s) to make opponents quit packing the lane-my 2 cents.

You mean the same weave Billy Clyde used to run before Cal got here? It was kind of fun, actually…

Yes, something similar, go back and look at film of the early games, they used it effectively and it suits our skills. He’s got them understanding north/south, but our east/west ball movement lacks direction and purpose. Comparing it to Billy G. is a non-sequitir.

Sure, we need Murry to drive it into trafic more! He doesn’t have enough turnovers yet!

Actually I’m kidding, we did run a spread weave a few games ago, (can’t remember against who) and we looked good! But Murry IS prone to over penetration!

OMG!!!! Cal is being accountable and responsible for this nightmare. Good for him. Now if only KSR…….

    1. UK Big Board Update

You must be new around here. Cal says this all the time.

But then again, you’d know that if you weren’t a UL troll. 😉

Cal’s first move should be to hire a psychologist for Briscoe and Skal. They both need a big shot of confidence.

Since there are only 2 players on the team that can shoot (that get min), and the big men are athletic, but have no offensive game in the post, I’m surprised this team isnt running more. Especially to score before the other team can set up a zone. Lee and Ap should rebound, play d, and dunk. They should never take a shot. Skal could do well at the stripe or elbow vs a zone if he could catch, and pass. That’s probably helpful.
Briscoe is almost useless vs a zone. I’d think Mulder could fit better, but I also understand Cal has to play top recruits.
I honestly thought this team would run like crazy.
