Calipari: It’s too late to be playing, or talking about, basketball

You’re not the only one that’s sleepy. An agitated John Calipari came to the podium tonight and asked reporters to keep it short and sweet because it’s way too late to be talking about basketball, especially a game as ugly as the one we just witnessed.

“Folks, can you make this really quick. It’s 12:30. A college kid shouldn’t be playing at 12:30. The old man that’s coaching their team has to watch tapes tonight. Can you just ask a couple questions? We shouldn’t be playing this late, but that’s another issue for another day.”

In true Calipari form, 12:30 became 1:30 a few seconds later when he was asked about his team’s performance.

“We’ll be fine. I mean, you get up 18 and, you know, again, it’s 1:30 in the morning, and we’re playing.”

(Around here, we call that “Calculus”)

Regardless, Calipari said he knows Kentucky must play better to beat Wichita State — “no question” — and made it clear to his squad after a lackluster second half in which the Norse outscored the Cats 46-41.

“We talked after the game. But I want them to enjoy the win. They’ll be sleeping here in another 45 minutes, but they can enjoy it for another 45 minutes anyway.”

Okay, we get it. It’s late. Plus, there’s plenty of time to talk tomorrow┬áthis afternoon during the team press conferences.

If he loses sunday he should start warming up

Nearly one billion in India have adopted “STFU Slater” as their actual mantra. It has surpassed “OM” as the go-to chant for all seeking internal and universal peace.

Reply fail. I shall accept my deserved derision gracefully.

I agree it’s too late for basketball, but that was kind of weak sauce on Cal’s part. You have to play with the cards you’re dealt, and the NCAA dealt you a ten PM start time. It shouldn’t be used as an excuse. And Slater, if no one has ever told you to STFU, I’ll gladly be the first. Ugh, I just fed the troll. I hope it tasted like sewage.

Don’t forget the 1.4 billion Chinese.

No response from Slater. He must still be asleep in his anti-Cal/anti-UK bunker. Stayed up late will all his hate.

Although I feel Cal has a good point. Just remember Cal is against playing the Sunday (SEC Tourney) game, he wants more time between that game and the tournament, well guess what the NCAA gave him all the time they could.

I believe that UK will win against Wichita State. After that I am a little worried unless they get that offense going like it was at the beginning of the year.

  4. WeareBBN

Kent State was playing just as late but their coach did not seem to bitch about it. Just play the damn games and coach your team.

    1. runningunnin.454

The Kent State coach had no delusions about playing in the 2nd round.
And UCLA does not play til very late tomorrow.

    2. Fake Donald Trump

WeareBBN – You do realize the UCLA/Kent State game was played in SACRAMENTO, CA right? Means they’re 3 hours behind Indy time. Those 3 hours can make a big difference. Just saying.

Runningunnin, you have a point though.

    3. WeareBBN

FDT—You do realize Kent St kids are not on pacific time right, by their body clocks it was just as late.

running…these same kids we have were playing 10 games in 3 days almost every weekend just last spring/summer. A day off in between is fine and if they win like they should have they could have had most of the 2nd half off.

  5. Fake Donald Trump

Kent state had the opportunity to get to their playing site a day or two to acclimate since they played on a Friday so that argument is not too strong. If they did not it’s their fault at that point.
