Cal preparing an “inevitable departure”?

Is Coach Cal leaving Kentucky? Recently, many conversations have included John Calipari and the NBA in the same sentence although Cal quickly denied any desire to depart from the BBN…immediately at least.

Cal recently said he has worked too hard to get where he is at and he is happy here. But that is for now and Cal seems to have a solid NBA ready résumé which could continue to strike NBA interest in Cal. For now, Coach Cal seems to be content here but stated he can’t do the job of preparing people forever. With that being said, I still think it’s safe to say he should be in Kentucky blue for at least a couple more seasons.

I don’t by any of this crap. He has already tested the water and knows that pros don’t listen. He had a team last year that wouldn’t listen, He does not deal with players that don’t listen very well. I don’t see it. I can see him retiring from here.

  2. Not to be a downer

Do you think John Calipari will win a National Championship with entirely his own players? This comes up often about Tubby Smith. I am not trying to be a downer because I love Cal as a coach and as a person to represent our state in a positive way. However, let’s look at this as here are IMPORTANT KEY players in our recent success that were recruited by Gillespie and not Calipari.

First year. Patterson and Miller and Liggins and Harrelson and go to elite eight
Second year. Miller, Liggins, and Harrellson and go to final Four
Third Year. Miller and do we win the national championship without Miller? I don’t think so.
Fourth year. All key players are Caliparis players and We go to NIT
Fifth year. Will we go to the final four? These are all Caliparis players. We shall see. I say elite eight

I don’t think he will retire here. I do think he will come close. I think he wants one more shot at the NBA. He’s always said he will stay here for about 10 years. I think he will “finish” his career here, but will go to the NBA for an “epilogue.”

If coach Cal said this on a TV spot, UK must start NOW actively examining replacement coaches. None of this waiting until the coach tells us he’s leaving and then Mitch Barnfart goes out offering the to coaches who have no intention of leaving their schools. DO YOUR HOME WORK NOW MITCH. Hire another Billy Gillespie and you’re gone.

Can we name Robert Hammonds coach-in-waiting and save ourselves the worry?
