Auburn runs North Carolina off the floor, moves on to the Elite Eight

Well, that was fun.

The No. 5 Auburn Tigers absolutely destroyed No. 1 North Carolina this evening, winning 97-80 to move on to the Elite Eight.

Sophomore forward Chuma Okeke, who suffered a gruesome knee injury late in the second half, led the Tigers with 20 points (8-11 shooting, 3-5 from three), 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block.

Junior forward Danjel Purifoy was second on the team with 14 points on 5-7 shooting and 4-6 from three.

As a team, the Tigers finished with a ridiculous 17 3-pointers on 46 percent shooting.

After the game, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl got extremely emotional when discussing the significance of Okeke’s injury…

The winner of Kentucky vs. Houston will face Auburn for a spot in the Final Four.

Very tough to see the young man’s season end that way. As much as I dislike UNC, I give their kids credit for their sportsmanship.

    “gruesome knee injury”

I was watching when that happened. I watched all half of dozen replays of it at the time. I just watched another replay. I would not have used the word “gruesome” … in fact, it was one of the least gruesome injuries like this I have seen.

You’re an insensitive asshole. Did boogie’s injury look gruesome? Sometimes you just know, doesn’t have to be a snap of the leg dipshit

    2. Smyrna_Cat

TateD … I hope the kid plays on Sunday. He limped off the floor, and although you could tell he hurt his knee, we don’t know how serious it is. Knee injuries are never good. Would I say this was “gruesome?” No. Paul George’s injury was gruesome. Joe Theisman’s injury was gruesome. “Gruesome” injuries don’t typically involve walking off the court. This injury was unfortunate, and I hope it isn’t serious. And no, Boogie’s injury didn’t look gruesome. Was it serious? Yes. I am glad he is recovering as well.

Pearl parties on yachts with bikini clad sorority girls, what’s not to like?

Can’t help but like Pearl … and you are right, he always says nice things about UK. I remember the game where he ripped his shirt off when he was at TN.
