Touchdown Terry WILL Visit This Weekend

Two weeks ago I talked to Stephen Johnson about his recruitment.  He was on campus one weekend, he went home for a day to pack his bags and then returned to start school.  I was warned that JUCO recruiting happens fast, but even I have been taken aback by the ever-changing recruitment of “Touchdown” Terry Wilson.

To summarize it quickly, all indications were that the dual-threat JUCO quarterback was not going to be a Wildcat.  The guy that recruited him to Oregon took the Nebraska job (Scoot Frost) and quickly scheduled a visit.  He was giving nods to Florida in Tweets, “Jumpman” after they became part of Team Jordan.  He said UK was still “in the mix.”  Normally that’s when I write a recruit off, but in this case UK is still actually in the mix and he’ll be in Lexington this weekend instead of Nebraska.

Football recruiting changes all the time, and for JUCO players it happens even quicker.

The Signing Day Show is Earlier this Year

For everyone who skimmed over the last paragraph to write in the comment section, “I’ll wait till they sign,” you’re in luck!  This year’s Signing Day starts six weeks earlier.  On December 20 at 8:00 a.m. UK will have a Live Streaming show to celebrate Stoops’ incoming 2018 class.  You know it’s close when Freddie starts watching film…

The SEC Coaching Searches are Complete

The college football coaching carousel has not completely stopped (I’m looking at you Oregon), but unfortunately Phil Fulmer finally got Tennessee’s ish together and hired a head coach.  Alabama and former Florida State defensive coordinator (Stoops’ replacement) Jeremy Pruitt will reportedly be announced as the Vols’ next coach today.  A look at who’s coaching in the conference now (new coaches in bold):

  • Alabama — Nick Saban
  • Auburn — Gus Malzahn
  • Arkansas — Chad Morris
  • Florida — Dan Mullen
  • Georgia — Kirby Smart
  • Kentucky — Mark Stoops
  • LSU — Ed Orgeron
  • Missouri — Barry Odom
  • Ole Miss — Matt Luke
  • Mississippi State — Joe Moorhead
  • South Carolina — Will Muschamp
  • Tennessee — Jeremy Pruitt
  • Texas A&M — Jimbo Fisher
  • Vanderbilt — Derek Mason

Dan Mullen is now the only SEC East head coach who was not previously a defensive coordinator.

Courtney Love Shows Love

The widow of Kurt Cobain told Seth Meyers she would try to make it to a UK game this weekend to watch Kentucky’s Courtney Love in action.  She never made it to Lexington, but she is still keeping up with Love.

Coach Cal will Preview the New York City Road Trip

The KSR crew has been on the road since Saturday, but the Cats will not leave until this evening.  Today around 2:30 John Calipari will preview the road trip to Madison Square Garden for a matchup with Monmouth.

Florida is Falling Apart

The Gators looked like one of the best teams in college basketball when they went toe-to-toe with Duke in the PK80 finals.  After they blew a lead to lose to the Blue Devils, the Gators have now lost three straight.  On Monday they got taken to the woodshed by a very average Florida State team, falling 83-66.  Last night they lost to Loyola-Chicago 65-59.  Both losses were at home.

Maybe SEC Basketball is not back? Thanks, Mike White.

A Pair of New Podcasts

Aaron Torres had so much fun recording his first podcast, he’s hopping back on the mic today with Barrett Sallee.  Freddie Maggard is getting back into the lab to talk about Northwestern on The Depth Chart Podcast.  Keep an eye out for both later this afternoon/evening.  Until then, listen to The Funkhouser Situation’s Comedy Countdown.

Who is Scoot Frost? He must be fast.

SEC Basketball has not been back for several years. And even Cal can be thanked as no SEC team has a chance at a title this year. Luckily SEC is so bad maybe we can win another of those itles then brag about 3,4,5 more NBA picks come June. Only reason USC made a run is college bball as a whole is down and they had several upper classmen, you all remember those. The guys that lead teams to titles.

    1. theWilkman

I’m really glad we had so many upper classmen on that 2012 team

    2. Jiminy Crickets

Well, I would argue, the in Calipari era, the 2012 team had pretty significant “upper classmen”. 2 guys from a Final four, both expected to go pro, returned in addition to a once in a generation talent in AD. Even then, most would argue they do not win without Darius Miller.

Same can be said for 2011 with Harrelson and Liggins being extremely prominent in the run to the FF.
The two years Cal had guys expected to leave, actually return for their 2nd or 3rd year, was 2012 and 2015. While the two years in Calipari era, where he had mass exodus, without upper classmen returning to be “coach on the floor” were 2013, and this year.

Upper classmen has a different definition when you’re recruiting one and done players

SEC had three teams in the Elite 8 last year…I would say that’s competitive.

    4. theWilkman

You can argue that, sure, but that’s not the definition of upperclassmen and it’s not what callitlikeiseeit meant.

Take down your banner South Carolina.

    6. UK Big Board Update

Umm… you don’t get many titles because the NCAA tourney is a single elimination format. One kid gets hot and you are out. All you can rightfully hope for is a shot each year. And I would say that UK has been in the mix more often than not since Cal got here.

To focus on underclassmen as the problem is an oversimplification. How many teams with upperclassmen lose in the tourney early? Answer – all of them except one.

  3. UKinIN

Haven’t we reached the point where QB recruiting isn’t worth mentioning until the kid has signed? Much ado about nothing.

  4. meeksfor3

Florida was doing great until Matt and Drew started talking about them being one of the teams on the top level above everyone else. Can we all agree the KSR curse is in full effect on the Gators?
