Add more schools to the list for Virginia Tech graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr.

(Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports)

What was once considered a four-team race for Virginia Tech graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr. may now be an eight-team one.

According to college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Gonzaga may now in the mix for the 6-foot-11 forward, joining Florida, Kentucky, and Texas A&M, along with a potential return to Virginia Tech also on the table.

Blackshear Jr. visited Florida today, and though it has not been confirmed quite yet, it is widely expected that Kentucky receives a visit, as well.

Last season at Virginia Tech, Blackshear averaged 14.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 29.9 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-11 big man announced he would be exploring his transfer options after withdrawing from the NBA Draft on May 29.

I concur. Decision rendered many moons ago.

Hey jack do you still think Kentucky lands him?

We will be fine if he picks another school. It’s all good #BBN.

Blackshear may be the one guy that we need to get to a FF and possibly hang #9. We can’t afford to whiff on this one, so please Cal, earn your big bucks and bring him to Lexington.

Our competition for him needs him a lot more than we do….still hope the staff can convince him to be a part of something special

Let’s hope Will Wade doesn’t try to make a strong ass offer.

lol that’s funny! Wade offers G-League money though…

I don’t get where people say we don’t need him and say we are already a deep talented team in other comments. BASED ON WHAT? Yes I think EJ has great potential but Richards has done nothing in 2 years and EJ is still unproven. Hagans and Quickley were average at best last season. Will they take a big step forward, we don’t know? All the FR, while highly rated, have yet to play a single minute at this level and have we not learned with FR you don’t know what ya got till January. Ratings don’t matter, how they actually do is what matters. The guy has talent and we need anyone we can get.

I just realized how w cold it is in hell today. I actually agree with everything you said Mash.

Let’s move on, seems like drama. I like my team as is.

Still don’t get the appeal of any school other than UK, Florida or A&M for him. Gonzaga makes ZERO sense, their frontcourt will have fewer opportunities than ours will.

There are things in KB’s recruitment that we know we don’t know and then there things in his recruitment that we don’t know that we don’t know!

  11. Carcrook

As thin as we’re at in the front court, we need him bad!

  12. StuckinLville

He won’t come. Yes we could use him but i think we will be just fine.

  13. Chacosrule

How about some good news? It’s been awhile.

Man I’d love to get him, but if not us, I really hope it’s not another SEC school.. Dude will dominate Richards if given the opportunity.

I just hope it’s not a bidding war. He’s in demand, and with all of the news the past couple of years, it may not be as much about fit as it is about how much can you fit in a duffle bag. If it is just about developing for the league, I think we get him hands down, But with all of the new interest in expanding the net, there may be more to it.

Well Self, Sean Miller , and Wade are not in the picture, at least not yet.
I distinctly dislike UF almost as much as Puke.
I really don’t want them to sign him, but proximity is working for them.
