Hey Paula, how much butter does this recipe call for again?
It must be exhausting to be Rick Bozich. The man finds a way to take a dig at Calipari in everything he does, from taking out the trash to shopping for pants. Today’s dig comes in the form of a seemingly benign article about North Carolina head coach Roy Williams. Bozich interviewed Ole Roy about UNC’s upcoming season and tomorrow night’s game against Michigan State in the Carrier Classic. Bozich being Bozich, he doesn’t waste any time letting us know the real intention of the piece with this opening line:
Imagine a college basketball team with a thunderous forward who saw more joy in playing his second season on campus than being the first or second pick in the NBA draft.
Wait, is this an article about Kentucky and Terrence Jones?? Really?
Imagine the same team with two other more improbable species: a junior forward and senior center. Straight fiction. Roy Williams does not have to imagine that situation.
Okay, guess not. Cue lots of fluffy quotes about North Carolina’s valuable veterans and Roy’s “refreshing” attitude towards players staying in college as opposed to heading to the NBA at the first chance. After Bozich gets the obligatory reference to the Carrier Classic out of the way, the backhanded digs at Cal keep pouring in:
On whether or not Williams’ “refreshing” college-first philosophy is outdated in today’s NBA-centric college basketball landscape:
Being a players-first program these days means pushing guys out the door and into their fortunes. There’s always another high school All-American looking to be next, correct? [cue "I'm in touch with reality" factoid] Williams has lost guys after one season, too. Marvin Williams did a one-and-done at North Carolina in 2005. Brandan Wright followed that example two years later. It happens.
Now Bozich is basically slobbering all over Williams:
But Williams has certainly had more stars stay two, three or even four years (Tyler Hansbrough) than one year. That has translated into NCAA championships in 2005 and ’09, which is nice if you believe NCAA championship Monday matters more than NBA draft night.
You can tell Bozich wants to go on and on, but this is an article about UNC’s upcoming season after all. So, he throws in a quote from Roy about how talented the college basketball field is this year, in which the coach includes Kentucky along with UConn and Ohio State as the elite teams. Because he can’t let an article end with a positive reference to the Cats, Bozich throws one last paper wad at Cal with his closing line:
No, but the Tar Heels are better than they would have been if the NBA was the only thing that mattered to Williams’ players.
Grow up, Rick, or get some new material. This is getting old.

Ever notice that Bozich looks like he’s coming off a 3 day bender?
November 10th, 2011 at 11:25 am
Its the same old thing over and over again. EVERY TEAM IN THE COUNTRY would take Wall, Cousins, Jones, Teague, Davis, and Gilchrist even if they knew in advance that they would only be at the school for one year. Anyone who says they would not take those guys is lying.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:25 am
How many times a day does Rich swallow Rick’s 15 second load?
November 10th, 2011 at 11:27 am
Looks like he’s about to fart.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:28 am
Waaaaahhhhhhh. Wah Wah Waaahhhhhhh.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:29 am
Paula and Jerry Tipton should hook up some time since they have so much in common.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:30 am
I cancled my subscription to the CJ because of that BOZO…..I will not even click on anything he puts on line
November 10th, 2011 at 11:30 am
smittywerbenjagerman jensen….. he was #1
November 10th, 2011 at 11:31 am
Bozich looks like Marc Maggard will in about 10-15 years
November 10th, 2011 at 11:31 am
green-eyed monsters run amok. of all the blue chip talent Cal recruits, guess what other college coaches are recruiting them also?? ALL of them
November 10th, 2011 at 11:32 am
Don’t worry Thompson, the true elite team will be shown December 3rd and maybe again in april. Bozich and ESPN may want an ACC team to win it, but I don’t need analysts to tell me who’s number 1. All I have to do is watch the basketball games. If OSU, Uconn and UNC are elite, then UK must be an all star team. They are head and shoulders above those 3 ALREADY. People need to have more faith about Dec 3rd, Zeller and Henson would be on the bench here.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:33 am
Bozich bears a close resemblance to Jerry Sandusky.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:37 am
he looks like paula deans love child who has down syndrome.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:40 am
Remember Cal’s line about throwing a rock in a pack of dog’s, and one would surely yelp? Well the dirty dog has barked, and it’s the Bozo. LOL.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:44 am
grow up? I don’t like what he writes either but he’s entitled to his own opinions.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:45 am
Bozo is a no-talent hack living in a town full of wannabes.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:47 am
Agreed this is blatantly anti-UK. Ole Roy had to have begged Barnes to stay and not go make millions. That’s so selfish. The main difference is, Calipari wants his players to be a success, Roy is in it for himself. I actually said that to a UNC fan friend of mine and he didn’t refute what I was saying. What’s under the radar is, UNC fans REALLY know down there that Roy saw Barnes as the key to making a run this year and they know it probably took some coercion to get him to return, although they’ll never say it publicly. That’s honestly something Calipari would never do. God forbid Barnes Willis McGahee himself on a drive to the lane this year and have to stay 4 years to go in the Top 20, but Roy doesn’t care about that. Roy just wants glory.
The first line of Bozich’s column is sheer balderdash.
A championship absolutely means more to Roy than it does Barnes. Roy has to stick around when Barnes goes and makes his millions. Tyler Hansbrough HAD TO STAY 4 YEARS to get his NBA stock up high enough to go pro. Had he tried to leave early, they would have laughed at him. The NBA drafts and takes chances on athletes and while Tyler was a hustler, he’s not ever going to dominate in the pros. DeMarcus Cousins will… John Wall will… Derrick Rose IS…
November 10th, 2011 at 11:47 am
All I think about when I read this stuff is that Kentucky is scary good, thats why people talk about us. We didnt get any of this when we were losing 10 games a year and getting knocked out in the Sweet 16. We are great, and it SCARES a lot of of people!!!!
November 10th, 2011 at 11:50 am
Bozich needs to just write the article about UNC without taking his jabs at Cal/UK.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:50 am
Bozich didn’t bring up Williams leaving Kansas on probation. That’s weird. I’m sure he meant to put that in and just forgot
November 10th, 2011 at 11:51 am
So let’s see Bozich- UNC was better off last year than UK. Hmmmm. Interesting take since UK beat UNCs ass to go to the final four. Carry on you clown.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:53 am
#18 everyone hates a champion right? We are back in the spot light and not a single fan in the country, except for us of course, would say they are happy about it!!!!!!!!
#17, you couldnt be more right. Roy does exactlty as you say and I know UNC fans who will admit that, and they like that he does it as well. They know that one and done talent is amazing, but honestly you need older players to make championship runs. Roy has a team about every 4 years that is good enough to make a run. This may be the year for that, however, they are going to have to beat a buzz saw, known as the BBN in order to earn their championship!
November 10th, 2011 at 11:55 am
What exactly does Roy tell these players to get them to stay longer? Well, we know Harrison Barnes said Roy told him he would be a Top 5-12 draft pick- when EVERYONE ELSE in the country said TOP 5 at the LOWEST- so Barnes thought he would improve his draft stock by staying.
And Hansbrough’s stock was never higher than by the end of his freshman season- and longer he stayed, the lower it got. Hansbrough was still picked really high, but he lost MILLIONS because ole Roy convinced him to stay at North Carolina.
I don’t even so much object to a coach trying to get his star players to stay- it’s the utter hypocricy that bothers me the most. If you’re out for yourself, don’t try to pretend your a saint, and some of the media should be ashamed of themselves for propagating the lie.
November 10th, 2011 at 11:55 am
Hmmmmm I think it’s pretty obvious by now why Hansbrough stayed four years.. I would too if college was the only place I would ever be relevant again
November 10th, 2011 at 11:57 am
15 – opinions are like ass holes…everyone has one…but I don’t want to see them
November 10th, 2011 at 12:01 pm
I’m sick of hearing all of this “college first” crap. A program is either PLAYERS first (UK) or it’s COACH first (UNC, UL, Duke)
November 10th, 2011 at 12:03 pm
Since when was the Courier Journal based out of North Carolina?
November 10th, 2011 at 12:05 pm
At least Bozich is giving KSR something to write about…get ‘em Tyler
November 10th, 2011 at 12:07 pm
Bozich must have case of Roy envy.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:12 pm
It’s great to be the envy of so many. Guy’s like ‘Blowzit’ and ‘Farte’ are a dime a dozen. I can’t imagine working every day trying to bring someone or some program down. Frankly, I wouldn’t have given this any space on KSR, it just feeds the fire.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:13 pm
He has flesh colored eyes.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:14 pm
Bozich is, and always has been obsessed with anything UK. It’s painfully obvious every time he speaks or writes an article. His days are numbered with the CJ (and the CJ days are numbered just like the LHL) so he needs material to get noticed, and UL doesn’t give him anything to write about so he includes UK in all discussions, without even mentioning UK. He knows if he writes something that UK fans could even remotely interpret as being about UK, that it will get linked somewhere, and UK fans will give him thousands or maybe even tens of thousands of hits he wouldn’t have had. He plays the game much like his suck buddy, Tipturd, and how many times do you see Tipturd linked here-almost every time Aaron makes a post.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:15 pm
Who cares.
Yeah Cal’ is a bad coach for encouraging top player to go to the NBA and make MILLIONS….MILLIONS of dollas…Yeah what an Ass. He only cares about his own career, getting them to stay to win a title and actually hurting their chance in the NBA – which is all based on potential.(if you’re there for four year we know who you are. Need potential for big $$) Oh wait that isn’t cal that’s Roy this Bozoo’s love monkey.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:21 pm
I wonder who’d win to get at Lil’ Ricky’s second comming at Porcinis, For-gae or Bostitch?
November 10th, 2011 at 12:25 pm
WHY, is a man from Louisville (schools in the SEC and Big East) covering a school that is from the ACC and frankly a school this state could give two Sh*@’s less about?
I guess the well is dry in Louisville if this man is going to waste his time covering the freaking tarheels!
November 10th, 2011 at 12:25 pm
Bozich is a “USELESS HOOSIER”
November 10th, 2011 at 12:26 pm
I’m glad I didn’t bother to read the article. Williams first championship came with another coaches’ players and you won’t see that kind of talent stay in college for four years in the future.
I agree, his chipping at Calipari is getting old. He can go hang out (and I mean that literally) with his buddies Forde and Pitino at Porcini’s.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:29 pm
This article kinda reminds me of those people at the end of the football season pulls for anybody vs the SEC. It doesnt matter if it is Georgia Tech or Boise, if they are playing the SEC they have support.
He can’t support L’ville because they can’t beat UK and they are ranked lower. So this tool goes out and tries to find the only school ranked higher than us and does everything but blowpop (minus the pop) them!
C’mon man!
November 10th, 2011 at 12:30 pm
You are reporters! Not assassins on a mission to hang college athletics. Please report about sports. Don’t make it about you and your feelings. No wonder newspapers are dying and blogs are thriving. You know what you get with a blog. If guys like Bozich, Forde and Thamel would report on sports instead for trying to be investigative reporter, you might get more reads and less hate. Sure, this shotgun reporting gets you quick hits but will the public keep coming back to read your articles? When I look at the sports section in the Courier Journal, I skip Bozich’s articles. He does not compel me to read.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:32 pm
There are two things I want to say about Rick Bozich and his articles.
1. He is making alot of UK fans look like fools. Before you jump all over me, take this into consideration; what can he write about UofL or Rick Pitino that will get half the hits this type of piece will? He is not only getting irate UK fans to read and discuss his articles, but also the delusional UofL fans who agree with every word he is writing. How many people in KY want to read an article about Roy Williams right now? My guess is not many. However, he takes jabs at Cal while stroking Rick’s ego and getting pats on the head from Jurich and he has a win/win/win article.
2. We need to just forget this guy and everything he writes. I know it’s tough to ignore something with so many factual inaccuracies and blatant bias, but if we want this crap to stop, we have to stop reading it and giving his articles website hits. We have a great team this year with more than a chance to win the national title. I say let these idiots try to bring us down and belittle our program as much as they want. In the end, we will see who is left standing on the court, where it actually matters.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:33 pm
I kept waiting to read the caveat “of course everything I just said would be moot had the NBA not been threatening a lock out”
November 10th, 2011 at 12:33 pm
Why would he ever compare Cal’s players to Tyler freaking Hansbrough?
Cal’s players leave because they are #1 picks or first round and most experts didn’t think Hansbrough would even get drafted!
Why would Tyler leave if everyone knew he was like Tebow?
Poor example tard, hey didn’t hear you mention Miller/Liggins/Jorts!
November 10th, 2011 at 12:34 pm
Everyone knows that Roy gets on his knees and begs his players to return. More often than not he acts like Pete Carroll did when Sanchez went pro. He cries and poo poos their decision.
Would much rather have Cal help players achieve their dreams.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:36 pm
Freaking. Train. Wreck.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:38 pm
I also love the comparison he makes about Hansbrough staying 4 years because he wanted a degree… Hansbrough had the ability to stay 4 years because momma and daddy weren’t in a financial black hole. I didn’t grow up in the streets of Chicago, neither did many of you, but I couldn’t begin to compare the decision making philosophies behind turning pro to save my family monetarily. That was a direct shot at Rose, and an indirect shot at Demarcus. Who’s the selfish one? Roy or Cal for asking a kid who clearly hasn’t had the same benefits growing up to stay and lose money so that he can accomplish a dream?
What this article sings at me is that Bozich grew up more privileged than most and assumes everyone grows up with the same privileges he has in his experience. Its also a lot of envy. Envy at the fact that kids who Bozich sees himself as a clear superior when it comes to smarts, are making more money than him even though he has finished a degree. But the truth is if Bozich were offered millions of dollars to leave journalism school early because of his talents (HA! Just saying Bozich and talent in the same sentence makes me chuckle) he’d do the same damn thing!!! Haters gon’ hate!
November 10th, 2011 at 12:40 pm
40. I’d bet more than half of the visitors to this site didn’t go to the actual Bozich article. Bozich is a joke same as Forde. Add Tipton to the same list of curmudgeon journalist with average careers. They’re a dime a dozen.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:44 pm
He looks like an overweeight Jim Brewer. Fat goatboy!!!
November 10th, 2011 at 12:47 pm
If I was writing a sports column in today’s newspaper environment, I would do nothing but take jabs at UK and Cal…and I’m a huge fan of both.
Negative UK articles = Clicks and Clicks = $$ therefore Negative UK articles = $
Truth is these guys probably don’t care the least bit about Kentucky or Cal, they are just smart enough to know how to get ahead.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:48 pm
It’s easy to take jabs at Bozich untill you taste his gooey butter cake, it’s to die for!
November 10th, 2011 at 12:53 pm
Every time I look at Rick’s last name I always want to mistake it for the words “Ball-Sack”.
November 10th, 2011 at 12:59 pm
40. Is correct too. Hits.
November 10th, 2011 at 1:07 pm
#47 classic! Goatboy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 10th, 2011 at 1:12 pm
How many of us would be one and doens if we truly had the talent after our freshman year? ALL OF US!!
November 10th, 2011 at 1:16 pm
If roy williams presented his cack this dude would be all over it
November 10th, 2011 at 1:19 pm
I have always liked coming to this site even though I am a UNC fan because one of my best friends is a Kentucky fan and told me about KSR. However it is really sad to see the standards for which we judge a great program and a coach drop to such low levels. I have nothing but respect for Kentucky and its program, but you guys use to care about winning championships and not the draft order of your freshman or sophmores!! So what if Roy has guys that stick around and want a title?? Roy would love the one and done’s but he doesn’t make them a priority like Cal does because he believes he can get more out of a junior or senior that has been through the grind than a true fresh. People question the man’s intentions or character but he has nothing but respect for Kentucky!! The game when it comes to recruiting has changed and I will be the first to admit Cal has it dialed in right now and will probably be delivering you guys a title very soon. But while your coach goes about it his way, ours does it his. Our coach believes that no player is bigger than the program and in turn that if the player committs himself to the system and getting better, their draft stock or position will handle itself. The first priority for any kid that laces ‘em up at Uk or Unc is to win a title, or at least it should be.
November 10th, 2011 at 1:25 pm
Is that a picture of Rick Bozich or Barney Frank after a makeover?
November 10th, 2011 at 1:32 pm
My problem with Bozich is not that he wants to take jabs at Cal or write an anti-UK article. That’s his right. Where the problem lies is that when UK does something incredible, he will write this glowing pro-UK article, knowing full well he would be the first one to say anything disparaging about us if he had a chance. And he’s clearly not objective. I actually dislike him more than Forde, and that’s saying a lot.
November 10th, 2011 at 1:32 pm
I agree with what Mark(55) said. Coaches are different in each one’s approach to the game. Cal is hands down the best recruiter right now and he has a pipeline to the NBA going right now. But to hear all these UK fans now saying that it is priority number one to get kids to the NBA is not the sentiments that they’ve always had. If you argue with a UK fan, the first thing they say is, “Who has more Championships?” So now you saying that is not important. I always thought that they saying was,”You play for the name on the front of the shirt, not the back!” I guess things have changed. We will see if somehow Cal hasn’t won a Championship in the next few years.
November 10th, 2011 at 1:38 pm
Wow UK Fans! Do you REALLY think Bozich was taking shots at Calipari? Get a life, not EVERYTHING is about UK. Well, I guess in your small minds, maybe so. You just can’t fathom that someone would write about something else.
Dean Woermer to UK Fan:
“Son, fat, drunk, stupid and paranoid is no way to go through life”
November 10th, 2011 at 1:40 pm
When I saw this article this morning I said to myself would any paper in the state of NC write a similar story about UK???? I read the first paragraph and felt dirty. I sensed the bull I thought It was because it was about Carolina but you are right it is a sorry jab at UK. Really starting to see Visit as petty!!!!!
November 10th, 2011 at 1:40 pm
48. yeah because money is way more important that integrity.
November 10th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
I refuse to read Bozo, but Robbie Hummell (sp?) is the reason that you should encourage a kid to go pro ASAP. Not saying Robbie was a potential pro, but how does Roy look if Barnes blows an ACL this year? Do what’s best for the kid, not what’s best for the coach.
November 10th, 2011 at 1:48 pm
meh,
he’s just a wannabe
November 10th, 2011 at 1:49 pm
It wouldn’t matter who the coach is at UK because Bozich would still be after UK. He has always been anti-UK.
November 10th, 2011 at 1:55 pm
Sorry if this has been said, but how hilarious that this Pitino buttmunch has to use ANOTHER TEAM to tentpole the ‘non-one and done thinking’ as successful, b/c it definitely hasn’t worked out too well for Pitino at UofL. What a complete and utter idiot.
November 10th, 2011 at 2:12 pm
There sure is a lot of love for a couple of slime balls who write for 2 obsolete rags for an excuse for newspapers. First of all A few weeks ago I put a deffinition of Bozich out of the dictionary. It said R bozich is a SLUG. Has no spine just plain slimey like his protege Tipton. Before long as Matt Jones has said Farte Head Potinos little book writing buddy (PAT FORDE) will be talking the BIG BLUE NATION down.I have asked The Whole BIG BLUE NATION TO REFER TO THE IDIOT AS SLUG.EVERYONE CONTACT THE SLUG AND LET HIM KNOW WHAT A SLIME BALL HE IS. GO CATS!!!!!!!!
November 10th, 2011 at 3:41 pm
He looks just like David Williams, who just lost the governor’s race.
November 10th, 2011 at 4:04 pm
Bozich is a flowered dress away from looking like my grandmother.
November 10th, 2011 at 4:08 pm
I SAW SOMEONE WHO LOOKS JUST LIKE HIM TRYING TO PICK UP MEN IN OLD LOUISVILLE LAST NIGHT. HE SHOULD CONSIDER JUST PLEASING FIFTEENO AND LEAVE TO THE JOURNALISM TO SOMEONE WITH TALENT WHO DOESN’T HAVE THEIR OWN AGENDA. I LOVED THE EARLIER COMMENT THAT HE LOOKS LIKE PAULA DEEN’S LOVE CHILD WITH DOWNS SYNDROME.
November 10th, 2011 at 4:48 pm
Cal knows what he is doing and helping others get what they want is an excellent method for achieving great successes. If Cal stays at UK until he is 65, we will all be smiling at his achievements for the university, the basketball team, the state of Kentucky, and yes, his players.
John Wooden probably was the most accomplished basketball coach ever. He did not win the first of his 10 NCAA championships until he was 54 and about 17 years coaching eperience.
Bozich is irrelevant to UK fans. Ignore him.
November 10th, 2011 at 6:10 pm
Favorite story about Roy Williams: Roy was in a hotel somewhere and a UNC fan says something like “don’t let us down”. It may have been before a big tournament game, but what matters is Roy’s response. He says to the fan something along the lines of, “It is not your team!” I do not remember the rest of what he said, but it captures something there about Williams.
November 10th, 2011 at 7:36 pm
I don’t worry about what the bastard son of Paula Deen and Borney Phrank’s sperm donation writes especially in re gay-bee blew & Hroy Wms. Bozo loves Robt. Montgomery Knight – and the old school ways. Given that Bozo is a BIG 10 guy, you’d think he’d focus on the situation surrounding Joe Pa and their Prez’ firing.
