[Moderated by Matt Jones, Drew Franklin and Tyler Thompson]
USA Today released its college basketball preview for the upcoming season, and Kentucky’s Terrence Jones is on the cover of the local print edition. Jones was named to the paper’s All-SEC first team and he’s ranked as the best player in the conference. Freshman point guard Marquis Teague was named second team All-SEC.
Anthony Davis is notably absent. And that’s a load of bull manure. We demand a re-print.
USA Today First Team All-SEC

John Jenkins, Vanderbilt
Jeffery Taylor, Vanderbilt
Terrence Jones, Kentucky
JaMychal Green, Alabama
USA Today Second Team All-SEC

Is Laurie Morgan gonna sing at Big Blue Madness?

Just think what a great team we could be if only we had Arnett Moultrie instead of Anthony Davis.

How can they leave Anthony Davis & Michael Kidd-Gilchrist off? They will be a superstars this season.

More shocked that Doron isn’t 2nd team.

8) I agree, a lot of omissions on this list. Something tells me that Cal thrives on this kind of stuff and it will only help us in the long run.

In March the lists will be much different. Why isn’t my son on this list? Rumor has it that AZ is enquiring about my son. Pay up Mitch or you will lose him!

5, 8, 9- lets make a list of the conference’s best players but only take names from one team!

WHAAAAATTTTT??? USA Today is a JOKE!!!!

It sucks that UK has so many talented players that they all cant get these kind of recognitions. I mean if they were really naming the top players pre-season they would have Davis, Lamb, Gilchrist, and Miller. I know they cant do this but those are the top players in the conference

By the way this is complete bullshit. Boynton is not a first team player, Taylor is not a first team player. Darius Miller is really the biggest snub here. Anyone that can start on UK’s team the last 3 years is a first team any conference.

All I can say is Motivation!!

LOL–that’s OK. Let them overlook the talent on this team. They may have to make some revisions at year’s end.

USA Today is about as relevent as Indiana basketball

This list speaks volumes about the credibility of college basketball opinion pieces from USA Today.

Gee, I guess that means we might as well just hand the trophy over to Vandy! Why even play the games? DUH!
October 11th, 2011 at 2:52 pm
This is a bad bad list.
In addition to all the UK snubs how does Brad Beal get no mention? Considering this league as a whole, over half the list should be freshmen this season. 4/10th of the list should be Kentucky. Teague is probably regarded as the “weakest” of the Davis/Gilchrist/Teague trio. Looking at this list alone one would think Vandy was the unmatched favorite to win the conference what with their 3 players in the two teams.

When these cats prove they can Play as a team and dominate then let the accolades roll in. I myself am growing tired of how great these freshmen are according to scouts… Prove it! The NBA is bleeding us dry every year. Terrence jones, thanks, you deserve the glory… Now be a leader. Bring home the title.
