Thanks to Kent State’s 70-yard performance at Northern Illinois, Kentucky avoids the title of “Worst Offense in America” for at least another week. The Cats are ranked No. 119 in total offense with 229 yards per game through the halfway mark in the season. Only three teams in the country have scored fewer touchdowns.
This is just pathetic. Saturday’s game gave us the worst UK football performance in recent memory. Not only did Kentucky fail to get into the end zone, the Cats failed to cross the 50-yard line one time. UK should ask NCAA officials if the offense can start off every possession like it’s overtime; just give them the ball on the 25-yard line with no game clock and see if they can score.
UK has two weeks to rest up, find a game plan, and prepare for Jacksonville State. It’s sad that the fanbase is concerned about that game.
Pathetic.

uk sucks
October 10th, 2011 at 12:07 pm
next year we’ll beat em by 100 dag gummit.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:11 pm
Boycott UK football until there is a new coach and commitment to winning. This is a disaster and Joker is incompetent.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:12 pm
Mitch Barnhart should be shown the door too. What the hell was he thinking?
October 10th, 2011 at 12:15 pm
Was that picture taken before or after he threw up? But don’t worry Joker, your coaching has made all us Cat fans ill!
October 10th, 2011 at 12:19 pm
Just got my tickets for 2nd and 3rd rounds…. now they just better get to Louisville!
October 10th, 2011 at 12:20 pm
You all are being too quick… Joker and Randy Sanders were calling the plays and running the show in 07 when he had the best offense in the SEC and last year we had one of the best offenses in the league. The difference this year is we seriously do not have a QB or anyone else stepping up… we line up in the wrong formation at least 8 times per game(QB isn’t communicating the play call to other players), Newton doesn’t go through his progressions fast enough, and he’s inaccurate. On top of that, he doesn’t throw a catchable ball. There has been a ton of drops this year because our QB can’t even throw a spiral… I went to the open practice this year and watch Newton the entire time. I knew it was going to be a long year because he underthrew every ball and did not throw ONE spiral the entire practice.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:22 pm
#4 I totally agree. What the hell was Barnhart thinking when he hired Joker as our head coach? Joker is a good guy, I like him but where and how is he qualified to be a head coach? I like Drew too, but he ain’t head coach material. We all welcomed Joker with open arms but I’d guess 95% did so with a question in our heads “what are we doing”. The old man was great and knew how to coach but his time has passed. Time we went out and took a chance on somebody who knows how to coach. Maybe Tom Leach? I wouldn’t mind seeing if we couldn’t get Phil Fulmer to give us a chance. I know he’s a great coach and loves to coach but he also bleeds orange. Maybe we can give him a blood transfusion and put some blue in there. Anyway, Joker needs to go and go now. I say after to we lose to Jacksonville, we make the announcement then. Go Cats!
October 10th, 2011 at 12:23 pm
We are right back in the Bill Curry era. If this is the best we can recruit, if this are the best coaches we can get, then what is there to look forward to except more of this. So what if we have 2 weeks to prepare! We had spring practice and the preseason and look what we’ve got. 2 weeks will make no difference at all! Much as I like Joker, he’s in WAY over his head!!!
October 10th, 2011 at 12:27 pm
Jacksonville State has Washaun Ealey at RB. In other words, they have a RB better than anything UK has on their roster. 5 TD’s last year for UGA
Could be ugly.
They beat Ole Miss last year which UK probably won’t do this year.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:28 pm
What was Brooks record in the SEC?
October 10th, 2011 at 12:30 pm
PATHETIC coaching + EXTREMELY sub par SEC football players, and absolutely SICKENING play calling = UK football. LOSERS! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE hurry up basketball season so we can put this embarrasment on the football field to rest! Joker has set this program back 10 years in less than 2 years!
October 10th, 2011 at 12:31 pm
8, does Tom Leach know how to coach? Wow!
October 10th, 2011 at 12:32 pm
2 Football posts in a row, we are now past due for basketball.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:32 pm
KSR Writers,
Can we just drop football? For the day at least? It’s Monday, people are already miserable at the idea of being back at work, and the negativity isn’t helping. I know this site is free, and I appreciate what you do. I’m just asking…
October 10th, 2011 at 12:33 pm
If they fire Joker, I say they go after the Boise St. coach for a hire.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:33 pm
Man this fish stinks from the head down. The “Coach In Waiting” thing never works, I can’t think of one instance in which it has worked. But beyond that, there are more problems than one can even list. Newton does not appear to me to have nearly enough going on between the ears for us to compete if we Didn’t have some of the other problems. He makes Hartline look like Dan Marino. Forget Joker being canned for at least another season, only hope would be that he quits out of embarasment. The only way this program ever becomes relevant is a drastic change. A Big Time Coaching Name to bring in Big Time Recruits. Other than that, hang on boys,,,she’s going to be rough sailing.

The players on the field this year were recruited under Brooks where they focused on finding athletes they could “develop” into players.
Joker fired Brooks’ coaches and hired his own who focus on recruiting players much further down the develop curve and more ready to contribute as soon as they arrive on campus; higher ranked recruits.
We only have a few of those guys on the roster now. We’ll see many more of them next year and should have a full “Joker Roster” by 2013.
Give Joker this year. 2012 should see a marked improvement over THIS year (not the Brooks years – too much to expect). The year after (2013) is when we should see this system start to bear fruit.
If we don’t see improvement next year than I’d seriously look at Joker continuing. But, if there is, I say let him continue implementing his program.
I definitely like seeing us recruit and receive commitments from 3+* kids than the 0-2* guys Brooks was getting.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:37 pm
Hey. We know we suck. I know we have to talk about football on here but can’t we limit the post as much as possible.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:37 pm
Will you do a LiveBlog of Keeneland this week instead? Please?
October 10th, 2011 at 12:39 pm
Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I, for one, am glad we named Joker our coach-in-waiting so no big SEC school stole him from us!
15- football is the big story right now.. of course they’re going to write about it.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:39 pm
Just looked at the Keeneland calendar. Jax St. game day is “See Blue” day at Keeneland. The irony!
October 10th, 2011 at 12:41 pm
Good Grief #18…are you Joker??? Maybe his Mom or Wife?? Give it up, the man is in WAY over his head. In NO world that exists is Joker Phillips a SEC caliber Head Coach. He must go. Nice guy or not, he isn’t getting the job done, he has set this program back 10 years in 2 years. The only way that idiot they call an A.D., Barnhart, will get the message is to stay home. Keep Commonwealth empty and then we will see results. Hit ‘em where it hurts.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:41 pm
How many other teams outside the SEC play the level of competition UK plays? LSU, UF & USC are top 15 teams out of 121 teams. (UF just played UA and LSU, 1 & 2 in the country. They would be ranked in the top 15 if not for those losses) I imagine if we played in another conference, our statistics would look more favorable. We’ve got 6 mores games against teams outside the top 25. Lets see how we do against those team before we begin to pass judgement. Also, we lost our QB, RB, & 2 WR’s from last years team. We’ve got all new players trying to figure the offense out. However, I do agree Morgan Newton has been in the system for 3 yrs now. He should be better along and directing the other offensive players. Our QB is not performing, which is hurting the whole offensive rythum.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:44 pm
I agree I know we can’t ignore football but it does seem that every blogger on here has posted basically the same thing about how we suck.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:44 pm
This isn’t negativity – it’s reality !! Joker has to be fired !!
If we’re really this bad on game day, you have to ask yourself the question – what the hell are they doing in practice?
October 10th, 2011 at 12:45 pm
We need Jim Tressel.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:45 pm
While listening to the Leach Report a commerical came on…. I KNOW what the problem is with the football team…..If we want to play like a Champion, we hafta SLEEP like a Champion!!!!!!! It’s just both the team and coaches hasn’t woke up yet!
October 10th, 2011 at 12:46 pm
#24, Hey that’s interesting…do we HAVE an “offensive rhythm”? I know we have an OFFENSIVE Coach and an offensive staff….the players have my sympathy, really.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:46 pm
18. seriously, are you retarded? who do you think was the recruiting co-ordinator for brooks while he was here? EVERYTHING you said in your post was wrong
October 10th, 2011 at 12:48 pm
#18, don’t forget that Brooks’ system of recruiting those 2* guys produced some pretty good players, including Randall Cobb. Recruiting will get you nowhere if the players you recruit have absolutely no direction or motivation when they are on the field.
Comparing this team’s offense to the Bill Curry teams, IMO, does a disservice to Curry’s teams. As bad as they were, I do not recall Curry’s teams hoping and praying for the likes of Kent St to keep us from the very bottom of the BCS standings. We have sunk to new lows this season. We could very easily be winless at this point.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:49 pm
Hire Bob Beatty at Trinity to be the offensive coordinator. Will give the Cats the inside track to Quick, Hatcher and White the following year.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:50 pm
#25 You can wait all you want to pass judgment but most reasonably thinking fans have seen enough. No heart, no emotion, no game plan, no offense. This from a guy who has been with the program for several years and has been the chief recruiter. As long as you continue to support this garbage you will continue to get it. Boycott UK football until there is a commitment to winning.

Easy solution….Hire Bob Beatty from Trinity as the offensive coordinator. Would immediatley improve the offense to compete in the SEC. Also give UK the inside track to recruiting Quick, Hatcher, Dawkins and White from the junior class at Trinity.
October 10th, 2011 at 1:02 pm
And for those that defend Barnhart for hiring calipari, please remember that he originally passed on Cal for Gillispie so he technically does not deserve credit for hiring Cal. Facts are joker will be here this year and next with the excuse that he needed time for the new assistants to adjust. By then Mike Leach will be gone to UCLA, new Mexico or maybe even ole miss
October 10th, 2011 at 1:03 pm
#18- these are joker’s guys. besides, coach brooks won with those 0-2 star players (at least some of the time).
besides, newton was a 4* recruit and rated the #6 QB in his class by scout.com. and look at his numbers. this staff doesn’t know what to do with their players, whether they are 4*s or unrated.
October 10th, 2011 at 1:04 pm
Week after week, same old story. I get ready for Kentucky football, thinking this will be the game when the cat’s will come out and play a respectably game. Not sure they will win.The game starts, the defense hold for 3 and out, then the offense takes the field and the comedy of errors begins, then the other team scores in one or two plays (very easily you might say),then it’s starts a free fall the rest of the game. This has happen even game. Just like a old movie I’ve seen before. Very boring!! Time for a change and quick.
October 10th, 2011 at 1:05 pm
Let’s be honest anything short of a blowout win against JSU should be reason enough for the UKAA to begin a real honest to goodness coaching search
October 10th, 2011 at 1:07 pm
When Danny quits this team, then I will consider it! Until then Joker has 6 more games to prove his worth. Win 4 and he gets another year, anything less and Mitch has some work to do. The major problem is to not let the program fall to a point like before, where we could not even get a coach like Joker. I understand the frustration, but nothing will be done before the end of the season.
October 10th, 2011 at 1:28 pm
Concerned?? Really? Don’t you have to care about this team 1st to be concerned? Why would anyone care at this point? It’s hopeless. Maybe it will be better next year who knows- but this year is over folks. We might beat JSU…maybe, but if we lose who cares? Is there really any difference between 2-9 and 3-8?
October 10th, 2011 at 1:40 pm
#17, ask FSU how it worked out for them
October 10th, 2011 at 1:44 pm
Bring Rich Brooks out of retirement. Put Joker back up in the booth where he can do less harm.
October 10th, 2011 at 1:48 pm
At least the football team is meeting expectations…
October 10th, 2011 at 2:19 pm
Joker – “come talk to me when we’re 2-10″
This may be the case, you may get what you asked for.. GO CAYTS
October 10th, 2011 at 2:32 pm
I dont mind that we struggle. What bothers that there has been no improvemnt at all in any phase of the game. Our defense is solid but exhausted because they are on field so long. We have went backwards instead improving. They are major problems with playcalling and the wide recievers cant catch and we have no running game and no protection for whatever qb we use. At the end end season some changes have to be made. I dont even know if we can beat jacksonville state. We all know spurrrier is jerk and sorry excuse of man but he ran the score up because no respect for anyone on that team
October 10th, 2011 at 2:38 pm
Joker knew how bad this year was going to be, slow players, drop balls, undersized, QB issues etc etc….he saw it all pre-season!! All he had to do is address it early and be honest. The fact he even discussed championships is comical.
October 10th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
UK administration cannot let this go on even if UK beats Jack State into the ground. Three wins will be the best we can do this year and with SEC schedule even tougher next year(we drop Ole MIss and add ARkansas) we will probably only beat Western, Kent State, and Samford.
October 10th, 2011 at 3:04 pm
EMBARRASSING !!!!
October 10th, 2011 at 8:18 pm
Only way to assure Joker is fired is to quit attending games. It is all about the money; always has been. Anyone who thinks UK football was a success under Brooks also has low expectations. Zero winning seasons in the SEC is not successful. Brooks never came close to having a team that competed week in and out. He was much more successful than Joker, but I have said all along the best you can hope for from a coach in waiting is status quo. More times than not it will be worse than the original coach.
October 10th, 2011 at 10:08 pm
# 7 – If in fact Morgan Newton is a bad as you say, then why didn’t Joker give Mossakowski a chance? At one time we had two 4 star QB’s, and now we just had a game with a total of 4 completions! My little league team could do better than that!
UK football is pathetic. I think Joker is good guy and I really, really wanted him to do well, but it’s clear he can not be the head coach. I’ve been watching UK football since 1978 and this has to be the most disappointing team I’ve ever watched.
Ditch Mitch
October 11th, 2011 at 8:22 am
oh well
