Kenneth Caldwell is at it again, this time pointing fingers at UL

by @ 5:20 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

You may remember Ken Caldwell as the other guy (along with Brandon Bender) at the center of the swirl of NCAA-compliance controversy at Central Florida. You may also remember that Caldwell is an ex-con with some not-so-pleasant convictions on his record, and that Bender has a level of credibility significantly lower even than Bill Lamb’s. One thing Caldwell also has is a penchant for talking, and this time he’s choosing to point the finger at a certain commuter school just down I-64. Or, down the street from my house, but you know what I mean.

The Big Lead picked up on Caldwell’s twitter account, in which he had some thoughts on the connection of Louisville assistant Clint Hurtt to the Miami scandal, and why Louisville should be worried.

He’s not saying. He’s just saying. Caldwell has since spent a lot of twitter-time discussing the Cards, telling Rick Pitino and Charlie Strong that they should start sweating, that UofL players are being investigated, and that he apparently is omniscient:

Caldwell has also said that “Crooks at UofL will be exposed…on national TV,” and has basically asserted that Louisville is doing some pretty big-time bending of the rules, which he plans to expose to the world. I somehow doubt that’s going to happen, as Brandon Bender’s tell-all on Rick Pitino was decidedly underwhelming, but that’s what he said.

Now, these are the words of a man who has, to say the least, a less than stellar reputation and also seems to have an obsession with Louisville,  so what he says should be taken with the biggest grain of salt available. But, given what we know about what Clint Hurtt oversaw at Miami, it probably wouldn’t surprise too many people if UofL’s hands had gotten dirty since he’s been in town. That’s not to say that it happened, but it wouldn’t be a shock if it did. If you want to read through Caldwell’s timeline of UofL tweets, which are too numerous to get all the way through here, he’s @KenCaldwell2003. Even if 90% of what he says is a complete lie and the other 10% is more in the realm of general B.S., it’ll sure be fun to watch Card fans squirm until it all settles, and that’s most definitely worth it.

3 – You’re right, I did. Didn’t notice until I read back through it after I posted. Thanks.

  5. Dane Brammage Says:

Ouch! This is gonna be interesting. Anyone been on the LOUISVILLE boards to see what the Card faithful are saying?

  6. UL is Miami's little brother. Says:

  7. KYStout Says:

Lousiville fans: Feel the karma…breathe it in deep.

UL fans accept and bandy about as fact every lie told about UK and their recruits, and any old source suits them just fine. Lack of credibility or facts is no problem for the UL fan.

    Karma<=== she’s a bitch isn’t she lil bro fans?

  8. Waitin' on 8 Says:

Just because Caldwell is crazy does not automatically mean he is a liar, does it?

  9. wtf Says:

tell me how this has anything to do with UL. hurtt was last in contact with nevin months before he was even on campus at UL. before they even started recruiting.

we UL fans aren’t worried. the worst clint hurtt gets fired for his involvement at miami. sucks but its the way it should be i guess. charlie is about as responsible for this as calipari was in the marcus camby and derrick rose cases.

sounds to me as if some people love drama a little too muc

  10. Holden McGroin Says:

i’m not saying he’s right or wrong but the guy comes across as an idiot.

  11. ebell55 Says:

Talk about stellar reputations the guy that got Miami in trouble is doing 20 years in the pokie and has ruined the lives of a lot of people!

  12. Hoss Says:

9- False. Shapiro and Hurtt had over 300 text/phone messages between 2009 and 2010. Learn to read.

“- Phone records indicate that Hurtt remained in contact with Shapiro even after he became an assistant at Louisville, texting often until Shapiro was jailed. Hurtt’s last cell phone communication with Shapiro looks to be Feb. 13, 2010.”

  13. Johnson Says:

Well if Hurtt was dirty at Miami, I’d say there’s a real good chance he’s dirty at UL too, thats the point. That’s why its at least worth looking into IMO.

  14. BigBlueSkyDog Says:

This guy just wants attention. I guess he saw how easy Karen Sypher blackmailed Fiftino and he wants in on the action.

  15. Hoss Says:

    word press bump

  16. hotlanta Says:

this dude is an ex con who took over the recruitments for jerrell moore, damarcus smith, and michael chandler. by my count…that’s 3 guys not playing college football or basketball this season. come on KSR, cant believe you gave this guy attention.

  17. MorganNewtonMVP Says:

As much as I want this to be true, it’s doubtful this guy is legit. He has 8 felony convictions and has been to prison twice. He and Bender are upset because uofl called them out for the recruitment of Kevin Ware and Damarcus Smith. It is funny though.

  18. Inside Your Mind Says:

Notable bad guys that came forth with the truth: Jose Canseco, That Shapiro guy, Bruce Pearl?

  19. you dumb shit Says:

#12 charlie got hired at UL in dec 2010. hurtt wasn’t hired until feb 2010. so what 10-13 days worth of texting to get good recruits? if you learned to read you would have read that nevin shapiro reached out to those he helped out and gave money to, to try and get money and help when he was in trouble and getting jailed. sounds to me as if someone was trying to get money from a one, clint hurtt, and was turned down.

this would be why he threw anyone under the bus. he admits it. he decided, ok you can’t help me after all i did for you, here ya go. i’m sure if clint had helped him out he wouldn’t have named him at all.

  20. TeaguetoDavis Says:

This guy and Bender went on a UCF radio show a month or two ago. They had zero to say about Pitino or Strong. In the days leading up to the interview, they took to twitter and went on and on about how things were going to come out in the interview. These guys are clowns.

  21. Hoss Says:

Wrong. Hurt was hired by UL in Jan 2010. Nice reading comp skills, though. You do your school proud.

Besides, how many days does he need? Are you insinuating that the world’s greatest recruiter ESPN has ever know couldn’t collect his proverbial shit in a few weeks time and pull all those guys he’d been letting Shapiro wine and dine to your dirty little city with him? Are you also insinuating that as soon as Hurtt was hired as a recruiting coordinator at UL that he immediately dropped all ties with recruits he’d spent the past few years recruiting? Are you also insinuating that Hurtt worked up relationships with all those Miami defectors AFTER they left Miami?

    Lol, you damned fool.

  22. test Says:

    test

  23. The Truth Says:

If Matt Jones have to give this Caldwell a bj for this to be true, he would.

  24. Hoss Says:

“University officials haven’t commented publicly on the specifics of the process. Miami President Donna Shalala said this week that 15 student-athletes — she did not specify names or teams — were being investigated by university compliance personnel. Shapiro told Yahoo Sports that he provided benefits to 72 athletes, 65 of whom played football for Miami. Of those, 12 are current football players, and one is a member of the men’s basketball team.”

Hmm… so, basic math tells us there are 2 non-Miami players being investigated.

You wanna take a stab at who those 2 players just might be, 9 and 19? I bet one of them is a QB. A QB that was once committed to Miami, maybe? Meh, I’m just hatin. Nothing to see here. ;)

  26. Dolfan66r Says:

I personally visited Shapiro’s luxury box during a Canes game when two basketball recruits were there having a great time with an assortment of strippers/hookers. The stadium even turned down his request to put a stripper pole in the box.
