Jeff Goodman gets it. He knows that the best way to get offseason hits is to write something related to UK. Goodman talked to former Cat, Sean Woods, about the non-conference slate that he has lined up for his Mississippi Valley State team this season.
The Delta Devils won’t play at home until the SWAC portion of their season starts and will travel to ten different schools, not including a tournament in Vegas, to play some of the best teams in the country. With games against North Carolina, Florida and Wisconsin, to name a few, Woods can’t be accused of looking to stack the win column early in the season. Instead, his thought process is purely financial.
Goodman writes that Mississippi Valley State will make $778,000 in their ten road contests. Of that sum, the men’s basketball program will receive 40 percent. That money will then go toward recruiting expenses and scholarships.
In his time with the school, Woods has made significant improvements, despite facing the obvious financial problems and difficult schedule. He hopes to win a SWAC championship this season and with eight seniors returning from a team that finished second in the league last season, that trophy is definitely a possibility.
We at KSR would like to wish Coach Woods the best of luck and salute Jeff Goodman for taking the time to catch up with him.
