Saturday UK Sports Extravaganza!

by @ 11:30 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Bobby says he carved this pumpkin….I dont think he has those skills

Saturday is a huge day for Kentucky sports. The rare treat of a football and basketball game on the same day is before us and even though talk has been scarce about the gridiron Cats this week, the game is huge. A chance to get bowl eligible, move the taste of the Florida game out of our collective mouths and push for a new round of momentum makes Saturday’s game in Starkville huge. The Cats will be facing one of the top tier defenses in the SEC, but also one of the worst offenses in the conference….aka a mirror image of themselves. The Bulldogs have had a difficult time this season and the momentum from the bowl bid last year has not carried on. The line at this point has the Cats getting three points, meaning that to the folks in Vegas, this is a tossup. I like the Cats chances, mainly because I like Rich Brooks in desperation mode….that and Randall Cobb is starting. I expect the Cats to win, likely by 6, 20-14.

After the football game, we start the excitement of basketball, as the Blue-White game hits Rupp Arena for the first time. While I always hesitate to get any meaning out of an inner squad scrimmage, this one might be slightly different. There is no doubt that at this point in the season, Kentucky’s defense is advanced over the majority of teams. The Cats are long, athletic and defense is its speciality. But what about on offense? Even in practice, it looked as if scoring was an issue, so I think this game can tell us how the UK offense will look against a strong defensive unit…..mainly its own. I want to see if anyone besides Jodie Meeks and Patrick Patterson can put the ball in the basket and who will step up and become a third scoring option. The game will be telling and I am excited to see it.

For those of you out of state, I will be LIVE BLOGGING THE GAME, with Bobby Perry in the arena and Beisner outside of it, so check in and follow the festivities.

Big day all around……get ready!

    yeah nice shirt too.

  2. Roggensak Says:

You gave no times of either event… Not mad, but disappointed.

  3. BillyClyde4President Says:

So is the Basketball scrimmage on TV in the Georgetown area??? Does anyone know??

  4. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

Nothing is worse than the football team not being televised this weekend. It makes me want to slap somebody in the f’ing face. That is complete and total BS. It makes no sense to me. They changed the tip time of the B/W game and the football game is still not on TV. It a complete travesty. This is a huge game for the football CATS. I look forward to waking up every Sat. since I work midnights and watching the CATS play football. Who exactly is responsible for this decision? Let me know so I can piss on them.

  5. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

Good or bad I don’t care. I still want to watch the game. The last game I watched well you know what happened and I don’t get to see my CATS bounce back tommorrow against Miss. St. BULLSHIT. SORRY MATT>

  6. JimmyJam Says:

Because our football team is a joke and obvously overachieved the last 1.5 years.

  7. Blue in the Vein Says:

This is a basketball state and that isn’t changing. I can’t think of many schools that are known at the elite level for both. A good football team will spark interest but football will always be a filler until the beginning of basketball season for most people, including myself.

  8. ConcreteCat Says:

    Football ESPN360 @ 2:30pm PPV in Kentucky
Basketball BBSN @ 6pm Local Kentucky channels

Stay tuned both events may be streamed on other internet sources.

  9. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

#6 You are the JOKE. #7 What exactly does that have to do with why we can’t watch the football game without paying for it. If that doesn’t piss you off in the least then you are no Kentucky fan IMO. I am a basketball first person as well, but it makes no sense that both are not on television. It would be nice if the football game were at least on delay, Jesus Christ. Two really bad games and people are already bailing on the football team. Randall Cobb is one of my most favorite CATS ever basketball and football combined just for what he has done this year. The kid is a special kid. I have heard that no matter where coach goes looking that he is always where he is supposed to be. Coach said that he is like several guys in one. Coach said that if you call the library he is there, if you call the weight room he is there and so on. Wearing Dicky Lyons Jersey and making those two game winning catches against Arkansas were unbelievable. Its awesome that UT didn’t really recruit him and he was only a two star kid out of a small Tennessee school. The character of this kid at such a young age I believe even surpasses Patrick Patterson. When this kid gets a QB that can get him the ball next year he will be awesome. If Joker would open up the playbook and run some different sets like a Dual Running Back shotgun with him at QB and Alfonso and Moncell in the back feild that could be special. Or a triple option. Whatever it takes. I want to watch this kid beat MSU tommorrow and I can’t. I will not pay. That is BS and somewhat like Reading a Jeff Goodman column.

  10. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

#6 Jam a Jimmy down your throat.

  11. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

A Purdue fan once told me that Basketball season didn’t start for him until football season was over. The fact that we have fans the equivalent to Purdue fans just the other way around makes me sick.

  12. MonstaMash93 Says:

Does anyone know if the b/w game will be on tv in Bowling Green?

  13. Blue in the Vein Says:

The game doesn’t air because the demand for football just isn’t their. Yep its that simple.

  14. Blue in the Vein Says:

I just caught the pay per veiw part. I don’t live in the veiwing region, so I have to pay for most. Sucks but what can we do.

  15. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

Sorry dude I just think the whole “we are a basketball school” is stupid. Sure we enjoy basketball first and foremost no doubt about it, but does that mean that we can’t enjoy football as well. I am a die hard CATS fan. If baseball or Golf were televised more often I would be die hard for those UK squads as well. I embrace the BASKETBALL TRADITION. Outside of my family I love it more than anything. It just doesn’t make sense to constantly say that We are a basketball school. Everyone knows that. Do most of us want to watch the football game live on TV without having to pay for it. HELL YEAH!!! I want it at least on DELAY. I love this Cobb kid.

  16. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

You’re right though what can we do. Just venting some frustrations. #6 and #7 just made it worse.

  17. UKIreland Says:

For anyone interested here is a free preview on espn.com and here is the UK team preview.. http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/insider/news/story?id=3657362&univLogin 02=stateChanged&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go. com%2fncb%2finsider%2fnews%2fstory%3fid%3d3657362%26univLogin02%3dstat eChanged

  18. UKCatFan01ABC Says:

Vote Socialist in 08. I could use the money. Thanks for going to law school Matt.

  19. ukclassof93 Says:

Matt, you are kidding yourself if you think tonight will teach us anything about this team. Precisely for the reasons you just mentioned. We are a defensive team and no one ever plays defense in these games. How many times can I recall a player for UK absolutely lighting it up in a blue white game and it turns out to not being a true indicator of the season.

That is why it is ridiculous that this game is on live and the football game is not. Totally BS!!

  20. jeremy.eastwood Says:

I know this has been mentioned by a couple of other guys on here, but if you live in the Paducah area, Rafferty’s is showing the game LIVE. Lots of plasma tvs, PLUS they have Killians on draft. There are alot of uk fans that show up, which makes for a great environment. We may convince their manager to put the blue/white game on afterwards.

  21. ConcreteCat Says:

  26. Mojo Wilkins Says:

That pumpkin looks more like Humphrey Bogart than Barack Obama…

  27. tpope Says:

21, dont you think that “I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car or worry about paying my mortgage” means that people are going to be able to afford it again and not that there is going to be widespread free mortgages and gas? That’s pretty idiotic…..but its par for the course for a campaign that hasn’t offered a single idea for the future and instead relies on trying to scare people with the untrue emails that my grandma forwards around.

  31. ConcreteCat Says:

    27. Clearly you are duped! The lady said if “I support Obama I will no longer have to worry about putting gas in my car or paying my mortgage”. That is what you idiots believe! Nothing can touch Obama though the guy has more character flaws than Saddam Hussein. Squirrel Please!! http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2008/10/obama-pal-bill-ayers-dedica ted-book-to.html As far as your youtube it is clear he meant to say Obama associates himself with bad people but strike one up for Rick on technicality.

Tell me something, what issues does Obama stand for besides a hatred of Bush? I just paid $2.36 a gallon for gas so apparently we don’t need Obama. Actually freezing the government and streamlining spending is a great McCain idea. Bush did let spending get out of control. Building nuclear power plants will create new jobs and reduce oil dependence. Obama’s solution is just a promise of his magic, poof a new energy source. Obama divides parties, McCain is the only one with experience crossing party lines. McCain is the only one with experience running against Bush’s policies. Obama barely even votes in congress. Obama is young yet he carries more luggage than Delta Airlines!

Answer one question! Besides false promises what does Obama have to offer?

  32. LizzieB Says:

Does anybody know if any restaurants in Lexington will have the football game? We have plans with family members to eat before the blue-white game (they’re coming in from out of town) and I’d like to try to catch it. I was thinking maybe Buffalo Wild Wings, Rafferty’s maybe? Anybody know?

  33. ConcreteCat Says:

    30. That was funny!!!

  34. BgallowayUofK Says:

    32. Any of the sports bars will have it. Especially BW3’s. If you go there I suggest getting there early or going to the on one on Man O’ War, it’s usually not as busy.

  35. LouisvilleFanCraig Says:

    Cats lose another one today!

  36. TheBigBooyah Says:

Gas prices are determined by terrorists. Obama is said to be a “terrorist”. Gas prices are low. Vote Obama.

  37. asdfasdf Says:

Energy source magic? Wake up, the technology is there (without using nuclear power) but being suppressed by big oil and special interest in politics. Obama only divides parties because of race, some people are still further down on the evolution line and can’t see past colors.

  38. ConcreteCat Says:

    37. Ha, now who is into scare tactics? Conspiracy, conspiracy besides false promises what does Obama have to offer?

    Obama = Fools Gold

  39. tuggerman Says:

    31. McCain has nothing but fear mongering to stand on. He is further dividing this country with this nonsense, which is every bit a continuation of the Bush Administration as are his tax policies. Tax cuts for the middle class and returning to the pre-Bush tax rates for those that make over 250,000 is not socialism. What about peace and prosperity scares the hell out of you right wingers?

  40. ConcreteCat Says:

    37. What specific technology are you talking about? Should I say dreaming about? How do you know this? Come on I’m waiting, we are all waiting!!!

  41. ConcreteCat Says:

    39. Wrong again!!! http://joerepya.typepad.com/eaglesnest/2008/10/middle-class-redefined- to-150k.html Let me tell you something else, talk to me about prosperity when you earn it. Obama has nothing but lies to stand on!

  42. ConcreteCat Says:

None of you Obama lemmings can answer my question? Again I ask, besides false promises what does Obama have to offer?

  43. tpope Says:

42, if by “false promises” you mean “ideas and progressive policies”, then i guess nothing. Maybe he should spend every day attacking the other guys character so no one will notice he has nothing to offer.

  47. ConcreteCat Says:

Just tell me something real Obama stands for?

  48. tpope Says:

Barack Obama will provide a tax cut for working families:
Obama and Biden will restore fairness to the tax code and provide 95 percent of working Americans the tax relief they need. They will create a new “Making Work Pay” tax credit of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family.

Provide tax relief for small businesses and startups:
Obama and Biden will eliminate all capital gains taxes on startup and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation.

    Fight for fair trade:
Obama and Biden will fight for a trade policy that opens up foreign markets to support good American jobs. They will use trade agreements to spread good labor and environmental standards around the world.

Obama will lower health care costs:
The Obama plan will lower health care costs by $2,500 for a typical family by investing in health information technology, prevention and care coordination.

    Promote public health:
Obama and Biden will require coverage of preventive services, including cancer screenings, and will increase state and local preparedness for terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

Provide short-term relief to American families facing pain at the pump

Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.

Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined.

Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars — cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon — on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America.

Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025.

  49. tpope Says:

    your turn

  50. ConcreteCat Says:

    49. How does Obama pays for these illusions? Obama = Fools Gold

Sen. Obama promises “change.” But people need to be aware that Obama’s promises are no change from what Democrats have promised for at least 16 years. Mr. Obama is promising a middle-class tax cut for “95 percent,” and raising taxes on people making over $250,000, now actually promising those under $150,000. President Clinton got elected in 1992 promising, “I will not raise taxes on the middle class to pay for these programs,” and to raise taxes on people making over $200,000.

Within his first month, President Clinton, also with a Democratic Congress, proposed the biggest tax increase in history including raising taxes on everyone making $20 thousand and up. And with it, spending increases followed quickly. He claimed his tax-cut promise was invented by the media. With our economy heading into a recession, increasing taxes is the absolute worst approach to take. Governments cannot spend their way to prosperity. These are economic laws. Mr. McCain promises to limit taxes and control spending. He should be given the chance to follow through. But these false promises from Mr. Obama are not “change.”

  51. ConcreteCat Says:

    again false promises!!!

  57. tpope Says:

53, basically what your saying is you want me to make something up rather than give you what the man is promising? Congratulations, you’ve proven yourself to be a moron. Yes, I believe what he puts on his website and says in his speeches. Maybe I should just believe those crappy youtube videos you keep posting. I’m sure they are much more credible. I can’t wait until you crawl back into your hole on Tuesday. I’ll keep your share of the tax cut.

  58. tpope Says:

And he’s obviously going to fund the new programs by restoring the pre-Bush taxes on people making over 250k. I dont understand why you dont understand this.

  59. ConcreteCat Says:

Concretecat: He stands for the following (thank God) and thensome: a) Universal Healthcare b) Energy Independance c) Tax-breaks for the Middle Class d) Strengthening international relations through strong diplomatic ties e) Affordable advanced education for all Americans f) Improving our domestic and international economic policies g) You’re not going to care what any of us Obama supporters have to say. You’re not going to vote for him and that’s your loss.

  61. ConcreteCat Says:

How is the pre Bush taxcuts protecting 95% from tax increases? If those expire we all get a tax increase. Squirrel Please!!!

Obama lies and we all lose our livlihoods!!!

  62. tpope Says:

95% of the people make under 250k….they will get a tax cut. Are you just doing this for s**ts and giggles or are you really this inbred and stupid?

  63. ConcreteCat Says:

    61. False promises, the only people these policies work for; are the ones on Welfare!!! Tell me how; a,b,c,e, are going to get accomplished.

  64. adaircam4 Says:

btw, it’s 81% that will not be affected by the tax increase, not the 95% Obama claims, look it up..also small nearly all “small” companies that have 10 employees make over 250k, and that’s not just in salary, that considers assets, paid employee salaries, and equity in property among other things, not profit. Nt to mention if these employers do not provide heathcare for their employees, under Obama’s plan they will be gtaxed on that also. So, the amount of extra taxes The Messiah is promising to raise so non working US citizens and illegals can get a piece of the pie, will mean that employers cannot increase their workforce, imagine all of these small companies not being able to hire and create new jobs because of redistribution.

  65. ConcreteCat Says:

    63. How old are you? Bush taxcuts helped everyone. When they first were put in place I paid less tax than when Clinton was in office. Back then my income averaged around $50k. You lack the education to make a proper decision. Believe the Hype if you wish. This country is at two wars and is doing pretty good if only for that fact. Don’t get me wrong I think Bush should have done a better job. I was there when McCain ran against Bush in 2000. If we had McCain the last 8 years thing would be a lot better.

  66. ConcreteCat Says:

    63. Obviously I’m not the “inbred and stupid” one. Do some research, please.

  67. maxim99 Says:

Concrete, quit being such a radical about it all. Obama offers an economic policy that is different than the past 8 years under Bush, the “trickle up” effect. The “trickle up” effect is not effective if used in the long run 5+ years, but the CHANGE is needed now. And that is what Obama is looking to accomplish. If there is one issue I don’t like Obama’s policy on is immigration. However, all the serious issues facing America (economy, energy, war) will be addessed within Obama’s first 2 years as President.

McCain on the other hand wants to use the same economic policy that we have had in office the past 8 years….”trickle down effect. But the way the market is going, investors screaming for higher returns, companies will not hirer more people they will run “thin labor” companies to show investors they are doing everything they can to increase their returns.

  68. maxim99 Says:

64 - as a small business owner, it is your duty & obligation to your employees to provide them the best insurance policy possible. The reason Obama has to “fine” (as everyone tries to put it, but really small businesses are exempt these companies is they were not policing themselves. People who cannot police themselves must be policed. Until people stop cutting corners (like not providing affordable insurance policies) to their employees, then yes they need to be fined.

  69. Mojo Wilkins Says:

Bush’s tax cuts put about $1,200 extra dollars a year in my middle-class pockets. Now Obama wants to STEAL that money via new taxes and completely waste it on government bureaucracy instead of allowing me to continue to use it to make America better one purchase at a time….

  70. maxim99 Says:

69 - your middle class pockets? You make over $200k a year, if so then I’m sorry you are not middle class.

If not, then under Obama’s plan you will still get that $1,200 plus extra.

  71. Mojo Wilkins Says:

I keep thinking back that the last time we had a president as leftist as Obama, it was FDR who ignored the constitution and governed in a way that he intentionally patterned after Benito Mussolini. Already Obama is threatening to pull the licenses of any TV stations who ask questions he doesn’t like (he’s done it to three stations so far). Add in the Fairness Doctrine to make all right-of-center speech illegal, and we’re living in Italy or Germany circa 1936. It can happen here after all.

But at least the trains will run on time.

  72. ConcreteCat Says:

    68. Thanks for a different explanation of “Welfare”. Times are tough right now, I have yet to lay off anyone from my company. Sacraficing my own income, if the government forces me to participate in Obama’s programs, I will be forced to streamline by cutting my tax burden and employees. You guys don’t get it. In 2000 I made a modest income, the trickle down effect works for those who work. It worked for me. The trickle up effect works for those who don’t work. How long does that last. Ask the USSR!

The USA’s problems economically are much different than what Obama is answering!!! The last two years of party non-cooperation are much to blame for todays problems. McCain is the only candidate that has shown experience and the will to cooperate with the other side. Obama says things for votes. That’s why people think they will no longer have to pay for gas and mortgages!

    Fools Gold!!!

  73. Mojo Wilkins Says:

70, I make about 60K, and I save about $1,200 a year under Bush’s cuts, which Obama is going to let expire (which will in effect be Obama raising my taxes and stealing money from me).

Obama isn’t a good Christian. He doesn’t know about “Thou Shalt Not Steal”. Has there been a more shallow, lying hypocrite? What a lying freedom hater he is.

  74. john3191 Says:

There are no tax cuts, it’s just free money, they are not returning tax money, rather borrowing more money probably from china, in effect lowering the value of the american dollar even less. I’m not about to say McCain is the answer, in fact if anyone else was running against him they probably would have my vote, but Obama is an anti American Socialist, radical who wants to give money, give money, give money, If taxes need to be raised it should go to paying down the national debt, thus raising the value of the dollar, not giving more free money away. If you need money, get off your dead ass and earn it, if you want to go to college, get a job and pay for it, anyone who believes raising taxes on companies is gonna benefit the middle class is a moron, all it will do is sink the job market further, and eliminate positions. It benefits the bums and illegal aliens.
Not to mention getting rid of guns (isn’t that one of the reasons we fought a revolutionary war)
and how about his 45% inheritance tax - gee that won’t effect the middle class - almost half of what my parents leave me will be taken by Obama and redistributed to the bums, and I make less than 25,000 so that would be effecting those making less than 150,000 won’t it.
This man is going to tax like nothing you’ve ever seen.
Obama says it’s time to break free from the constitution - Yeah I guess we’ve had enough years of freedom.
Any way you look at it - taking money away from one man against his will to give to someone else is steeling.

  75. adaircam4 Says:

    68) there are major corporations that do not pay for health insurance for employees, they may offer insurance but do not pay for it within the employment package…my point is this, not all small businesses can afford to pay full benefits for their employees and Obama is claiming that his tax policy will not affect small business, which is simply not true. I believe all small business owners want to provide great benefits for their hard working employees, however this is not always possible, but standarized healthcare is not a good idea in my opinion. For those wanting some more info on Obama’s “tax cut” take a look at this revealing article.

Total bull$hit, where in our constitution does it say business owners HAVE to provide insurance to anyone. You obviously are not a business owner. Move to Canada idiot.

  77. ConcreteCat Says:

I don’t feel like what I said had anything to do with Welfare, but maybe you read it different. But why is so many people against welfare? I understand the welfare program needs a total overhaul, but it is still a program tht give people the opportunity to succeed. Lets put this scenerio out there…If 10 people were dying in a fire (a fire that was casued by someone not in the house), and you had to run in and drag each one out individually. After everyone had been pulled form the building, only 1 out of the 10 lives. Would you consider it a waste to drag all 10 out when only 1 made it out alive?

76 - I agree, duty and obligation were bad word choices. But why so much anger, asking me to move to Canada? Chil out and let me express my views, you express yours and we can agree to disagree (now I think that is in the Constitution). Maybe I am one that feels like it is an employers responsibity to work for their employees too. Maybe it takes an act of government to gets back to those employer/employee values.

The day I heard Obama say that he considers the limits on government power in the constitution to be a “tragedy”, was the day I knew that no good will ever come from that devil’s oppressive policies.

When Ben Franklin wrote that “those who would trade essential liberties for a little temporary safety, deserve neither”, he must have had a moment of clairvoyance and saw Obama…

“the government that robs peter to pay paul, can always count on the support of paul.”

  84. ConcreteCat Says:

Resending the Bush taxcuts means that everybody pays more taxes, not just the rich people. Obama lies to you!!! I have a bridge in Arizona if anyone is interested.

Obama will take everyones money and decide for himself who is more deserving to have it. The money you work hard for may help a homeless or pay for his friends vacation. Meanwhile your life will be that much crappier.
