Jon Hood has torn his ACL

by @ 6:30 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Kentucky released a statement minutes ago stating that junior Jon “Four Loko” Hood tore his ACL in a pickup game Monday and will undergo surgery once the inflammation subsides.  The statement said there is no timetable for his return.  Go figure.  Guy flips an ATV, nothing happens.  Plays some basketball, major injury.

Leave your words of encouragement below.

Redshirt! seriously… we’re gonna need you next season more than this one.

  2. Yup Says:

    Sucks…get well Jon

  3. Nawlij Says:

    Get well hoodie…!

  4. tuckie Says:

    Pulling for you Jon!

  5. gabriel Says:

Jarrod Polson just saw his minutes double

  6. Dennis Weaver Says:

5->>>>>>Good! Wish Jon the best, but when he and Polson were in there, it might has well have just been Hood. He shot the ball more than Ed Davender did when he was in there with Chapman.

  7. fakinnomah Says:

Four Loko, please redshirt because I think another year with Cal and this kid is gonna be good. He has the size and the skill set to be an average to above average college player and on Coach Cal coached teams that is saying something. Get well Jon and see you next year.

  8. Al Sharpshooter Sharpton Says:

    Kaboom?

  9. rhtwo Says:

I hope that this is not the end for him…will be a hard road back for him.

  10. siestakeycat Says:

I suspect that he will now transfer. He’s going to sit out all year, anyway. Not trying to be an ass, but if there was ever a time to do this, it is now.

  11. kentuckyjoe Says:

A damn shame. Sorry about this Jon. Just awful.

  12. locukfan Says:

best wishes to you Jon.. here’s to a speedy and full recovery.. the BBN is behind you!! GO CATS!!

  13. Jeremy Says:

Big Blue nation has your back Hood. Get well soon…

  14. tbc Says:

that injury will take a full year to completely recover. i feel for ya john. dont worry, with proper rehab all your athletic ability will come back and you will be stronger. #6, if your saying jarrod sucks, your WRONG!! if your saying he should shoot more, i agree, but is that what cal wants him to do? he is doing what he is told. he is as good as the NC STATE TRANSFER.

  15. bluetooth Says:

    get well soon homie

  16. MtnCat Says:

    Get well Jon.

  17. cracka Says:

yeah, hope he redshirts if he wants to stay … this is the time to transfer, though, if he wants to … sit out a year when you can’t play anyway … not trying to push the guy away, but it’s something for him to think about

  18. expatkyfan Says:

    Get well soon Jon!

  19. U of Smell sucks Says:

Get well soon buddy. Stacey Poole must step up for sure now.

  20. on to the next one Says:

whats up with the picture relating to the story

  21. UKGoBigBlue Says:

Better him then one of the top guys.

  22. mudcreekmark Says:

He needs to redshirt and have 2 years to contribute. Jon Hood is an athlete. I think he just needs to get some confidence. Some people on here give up on young kids too quick. After seeing what Harrelson transformed into in one year you think we would have learned our leason. And by the way, I like Polson, he has a good handle and could be very important down the road.

  23. BiG JiB Says:

    Get well soon Hoody Hood!

  24. Juan4UK Says:

Damn!! Take care of it Jon. Get better

  25. peoplewhowork Says:

No replacement for experience. Redshirt could be the best option. Jon could be the veteran leader of the team in 2013.

  26. Dennis Weaver Says:

    14) No, I’m defending Jarrod. This will give him more of an opportunity. He didn’t get the chance when Jon was in there…that’s all I was saying.

  27. Guck Foodman Says:

Tough break. get well dude. And yeah, time for Poole to bust out.

  28. Papaw Says:

Behind you 110% Jon. Can’t wait to see you drive to the hole in the 2012 final four.

  29. Papaw Says:

Behind you 110% Jon. Can’t wait to see you drive to the hole in the 2013 final four.

  30. Hard Hittin' CAT Says:

Damn. Sorry Jon. Hope you get better soon dude.

  31. blink 82 Says:

Damn! dont worry you will come back next year..

  32. my dog eats better than this Says:

    get well soon mop

  33. Really Says:

Sucks for him, he could have made a lot of improvement this season for all we know as well.
Wrap the rest of the kids up in bubble wrap until the season starts.

  34. Back On Top Says:

@ontothenextone: The picture associated with this story is the Madisonville Maroons’ mascot. That’s Hood’s hometown – hence the nickname he hates (Mop).

  35. Patrick97531 Says:

Well I hope he makes a full recovery. But it’s not like we really need him this next season. He wasn’t going to get much playtime anyways. Redshift him so that we have some veterans on next years squad.

  36. joshua Says:

First bad news of the season, hope it is not a trend…..Get well Jon

  37. buckets7811 Says:

    14. WTF? Polson is as good as the NC ST transfer? You sir just won dumbest statement in KSR history. I like Polson, he plays hard and does what he is told but you are saying he is basically good enough to be our starting PG in 2012. Maybe you should bone up on your basketball observations

  38. Bigbluecalizone Says:

Get well soon Brotherhood,,get it, brotherhood,,,,Get well Jon!!
    BBN Loves You Man.

  39. anthony Says:

M&#@er &*%^#$, Son of a ^$&@!, God @*$@. Seriously though, Here’s to a full and quick recovery to Jon Hood.

  40. Hood's Homies... Says:

Jon, some of those pt’s are hot…get well soon buddy…cant wait to see you come back and throw it down!

  41. bung Says:

Wishing you complete recovery, Jon. Look forward to seeing you play again for UK.

  42. SagaciousMind Says:

That does suck, I cant imagine gettin seriously injured before a season. But he’s best bet is to redshirt, dont waste a yr of eligibility. He’s gonna need time to heal and I wouldnt force it. Hood will be a contributor for us, and I believe next year is when he will be needed the most. Hopefully he follows Amber Smiths path from last year.

  43. Fellow Maroon Says:

Damn it has been a long time since I seen the Maroon Mop. My beloved school mascot hasn’t looked better. When I was their the student body voted to change the mascot to a maroon wolf or something. I guess that didn’t last very long. Get well Jon. You have all of Madisonville and most of the state (excluding Louisville) pulling for ya.

  44. Tim in Korea Says:

Now there’s two reasons why he won’t be playing this year. But hopefully he can play in 2012-2013.

  45. echo 1 Says:

#1 is spot on. We’ve got this covered this year.

  46. SethDavis'sPrick Says:

Take your time with rehab….UK won’t need you anyway…

  47. Sarah White Says:

Best wishes, Jon. Get well quickly. My family’s prayers are with you. Do what is best for you – surgery, rehab, whatever. Many of us have had the same problem.

  48. Han Says:

Terrible news, Jon. We all wish you a speedy recovery.

The only bright side for his sake is that it didn’t happen a few games into the season and cost him a year of eligibility.

  49. Inside Your Mind Says:

Tough break. Feel bad for him but the guy was never going to see much playing time anyway. Not even next year. He’s only on the team because he was a Kentucky kid. Cal didn’t want to deal with the backlash of not taking him and i don’t blame him. If he panned out and could play then good. If not, he just gets recruited over every year and sits on the bench like he has been. It’s not what fans want to hear but it’s the truth. He has some skills offensively but he’s severely lacking defensively. If you want to play for Cal you have to be able to play defense and Hood just doesn’t have the quickness at this level.

  50. Xryanx Says:

Number 1 said it best! When players clear outta Uk after this season, he can be there to step in if need be.

  51. coldspringmike Says:

Forget all this talk about transferring, Jon is Blue through and through and Coach Cal takes care of his players. He takes a medical redshirt this year, rehabs, and with modern techniques will come back as strong or stronger than ever. Go get em Jon, hang in there.

  52. SagaciousMind Says:

49, you couldnt be more wrong. Hood was at one point a 5 star player before being injured. He had many schools after him, some he would have started at. I think you forget how athletic the guy really is. Cal didnt have to keep him, even if he was a KY boy. You talk about not having quickness or lack of dense, then explain Wiltjer to me. Cuz according to you, offense isnt enough. Hood is a good player and he will eventually shine at UK.

  53. Happy Chandra Says:

Very sorry to hear it. I believe that Jon is destined to be a contributor to this program and I hope he feels the love of the fans right now.

  54. Atticus Says:

Get well JH. #14 you are smoking crack on the JP=RH. CRACK! Poole’s development becomes an x-factor for this team.

  55. bhamilton Says:

get well soon! come back next year and help lead us to 2 in a row

    Go Cats!

  56. bballdoc Says:

Jon will be OK. This is a test of character for him. Rehab from this injury is not guaranteed, regardless of the effort he puts in. He will always be remembered for what he did in his first two years at UK, and he can build on that going forward.

  57. kyeric Says:

Torn anything sucks, but these injuries are not as career-ending as they were once thought. Good luck to Jon on a full recovery!

  58. KyKid Says:

All of y’all that are raggin on Jon are a bunch of asses. Guy just tore his freakin ACL. I know he hasn’t had his ‘time’ yet, but remember – dude was a stud coming outta high school and can play. Jon – best wishes for a fast recovery.

  59. CardinalsSuck Says:

Sorry Jon, I hope you recover as soon as you can buddy.

  60. sillybstrd027 Says:

hopefully this wont become a recurring theme

  61. Dennis Weaver Says:

    37) Don’t put words in my mouth jacka$$…besides, you don’t know how Harrow’s gonna fit with this team.

  62. Dennis Weaver Says:

Let me clarify my earlier statements by saying that I felt Hood tried to do too much when he was in that at the end of the game. Now usually the game was already a win in the books, but, and I only use Polson as an example because he and Hood always seemed to be in there with each other at the end of the game, he never worked to try to get a play off. He would always try to drive and do his thing. His injury is only gonna open up opportunities for Poole, Harrow, etc. to come in and fill a void that they normally wouldn’t. A redshirt season for Hood would be good because they’ll need him next year.

  63. JEREMY Says:

Wish u a speedy healthy recovery John! God Bless!

  64. Pullin' for Ya Jon Says:

Really hate to hear this Jon but don’t get down one bit because YOU WILL BE BACK. I tore my ACL 11 months ago and am now back at full strength — running, jumping, climbing, etc. Take this time to really think about what you want from your life and how you will attack life once you are better. Things like this can be a positive in time because you will learn a lot about yourself. You still are a very lucky guy to be in Kentucky’s program and to be able to take advantage of everything they have to offer to help you. I know it is tough to deal with at first but a lot of praying will help give you a positive outlook. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to contack Derek Anderson and talk to him about how he dealt with his torn ACL. Hang in there Jon! You have a huge fan in me!

  65. Brad Towe Says:

    Get well soon Jon!

  66. SweetTeaMob til I DIE Says:

If he gets a medical redshirt (and I don’t see why he wouldn’t), this setback could actually help him in the long run.. he could see A LOT more clock for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Speedy recovery Jon!

  67. Jimtown Catfan Says:

Wishing you a speedy recovery Jon.
Ill have to admit, I was one of the fans that never saw a player like Jon contributing to a UK team. Basically I just saw him riding it out for 4 years and having a successful post graduate career.
After seeing the transformation of Jorts under the watchful eye of Coach Cal last season, I see Hood in a different light.
So Hoodie, rehab and get yourself stronger. Dont rush this process. With two more years, dedication, and hard work (see Josh Harrelson) you can be a major contributor to this program. Is it going to be easy…. Hell no! As we’ve seen last year, it can be done.
    Prayers your way #4!!

  68. Richard Says:

He should get a medical redshirt he will probably be able to start next year especially if all the top freshmen leave for the nba. get well jon.

  69. goblue Says:

WKU or Murray or kWC even?

  70. jefres Says:
