ESPN Names Raymond Sanders The Kentucky X Factor

The SEC Blog guys over at ESPN have been doing installments in a feature they call the X Factor leading up to the college football season.  They released their edition on Kentucky, and the Sophomore Running Back got the nod for Joker’s 2011 Cats.  Good news for Raymond to see, as he will definitely be an integral part to the team next year.

However, I’m not so quick to agree that he’s the X Factor.  Their decision centered around the idea that Raymond will have to establish a running game for Kentucky if Morgan Newton is going to be able to make plays through the air.  I’ll agree with that.  However, as they mentioned, there is a good chance the running game will once again be by committee, and the offensive line looks to be one of the best we’ve had in years.  If that pans out, the running game will establish itself  – no need to worry.  Raymond will undoubtedly play a big role in the offense next year, but I think the ‘X Factor’ title might go to Morgan Newton himself.  His development over the next year is absolutely the most important key to the Kentucky football season.  You know, in my opinion.

the X factor will be the D line. if we can’t stop the other teams running game it will be a long season

  2. Blue Jesus Says:

The X factor is play calling. If the coaches will finally allow the players to make plays instead of slip screen, run up the middle, run up the middle, punt. Then maybe we’ll see some progress.

  3. JHeisman Says:

Looks like it takes 5 guys (from a national championship team) to bring down Mr. Sanders. Go UK and Music City Bowl here we come.

I think we will have a good season. Very excited.

    2) I agree with you, I think the skill player talent is there. If the coaches will get more agressive
with the play calling it could be very fun to watch.

  6. GridironMyron Says:

All you naysayers will be very suprised this season. 9-3, 8-4 minimum. Mark it down. If it doesn’t happen, I’ll just change my user name for future posts.

  7. Bill Curry Says:

    2) I beg to differ. That is just some good ole, consistent play calling right there. It works.

I think that we will suck just like we did last year. And nex year if joker is still coach.

  9. Football Man Says:

Run to throw & throw to run that’s the way we get it done. So, let them have some fun… it’s a game

Defense is very key but Morgan Newton is the X factor.

  12. tbd4567 Says:

In the spring, the x factor was clearly the wide outs. Morgan could throw accurately. The line was excellent. The wide outs were scketchy. If they catch the ball when it is long and on or near the numbers, the cats will prevail. Nobody can run with five in the box in the SEC. The field must be spread to run. It will only spread if receivers can and do catch long balls.
