whatever happened to these kids accepting their paychecks in the form of free education and living expenses?

1.) Its not that they dont get anything, its the fact that an organization, the NCAA, are exlpoiting there talents. The NCAA is making obscene money that should be going to the schools. The schools can then choose to do whatever they wish with the money. If they believe the student athletes should receive stipends they can do so, with some limitations.

Things change my friend… Whatever happned to the NCAA that didnt care for banking on all these college kids? These kids are young and broke! They make all the money for the NCAA. If there was no Jordans or Durants, college sports would be nothing. Supply and demand, and these kids get no supply and they bring the demand (fans). These kids if not for rules could jump to the NBA, not saying its the right move, but whos to stop them? Its their life. If you wanted to skip college because of a better job and more interesting oppurtunity, noone would question your decision. Since its a superstar, its a huge deal. All these rules and laws about kids accepting money, its rediculous and just set up so rich old people can sit back and make money off these uninformed work horses. If the NCAA didnt have commercials with John Walls and Blake Griffins in them how would they sell their product? Exactly, the players are the sellers and they get no proffit off of it.

Dennis E. Thomas, head of the NCAA Committee on Infractions(commissioner of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) finds this proposal, “very troubling.”

When it comes to paying the athletes, everyone acts like paying them is something that every college will have the ability to do and will do. What about UK swimmers, are they going to get paid or are they not worthy of it? Everyone that argues in favor of paying the athletes act as though being a Division 1 college athlete is a fate worse than death just because “the man” has figured out a way to making billions of dollars off of the millions they spend on college scholarships. Colleges aren’t going to pay their athletes because for every recruit signed, there are 1,000 more that want his spot and would do anything to have it.

I say take the university out of the equation and just let the student athlete make money. There are a couple of concepts that could be used. Let the kid be drafted into the NBA out of high school and still let him play college ball. The NBA would be using college as a developmental league. The second option lets him be supported by agents, family, alumni. You can think of this as making something legal that is going on in dark alleys.

Here is my biggest question: If the NCAA is making this “obscene” amount of money off of the players, then why is their labor budget so small that they can’t be bothered to investigate certain schools and their infractions?

Has any of you been to Lexington? I am a former UK student and these athletes are far from broke! Range Rovers, $200 headphones, Really nice apartments, and to top it off no class and no homework. Sounds to me like a bunch of typical UK fans making excuses to keep their dirty team out of trouble. Coaches like Calipari is the worst thing to happen college sports and especially UK. A free education is plenty weather they choose to take advantage of it or not. Their are thousands of kids there who came specifically for an education who would do anything for a free ride and avoid the large awaiting debt once graduated. UK basketball is a joke!
