Brewtown Andy – taking his admiration of ‘Buzz’ Williams to unparalled parenting levels
Over at Anonymous Eagle (a more fitting mascot for MU than the Golden Eagle based on their national identity), some guy under the handle Brewtown Andy takes a shot at the University of Kentucky and John Calipari, despite him only being here two years, by claiming/asking “Why Is UK Ducking Marquette?“. This presumably comes on the heels of the UK vs. St. John’s announcement. Don’t click this link if you hate being trolled. Instead, let me give you some highlights.
Let’s get this out of the way first: in the comments section, Andy states his intent of getting comments from riled up UK fans. So, instead of posting there and granting his wish of more hits, how about chatting amongst yourselves here about how Andy was able to induce fetal alcohol syndrome from outside of the womb. But really, I do plan on introducing my children one day to my love for Guinness and IPA’s, preferably before they can protest. As a Justified viewer, he knows Kentuckians prefer using bourbon, instead.
Andy claims his courage to call out UK was inspired by Wisconsin’s AD dissing Roy Williams (first sign of the trolling intent). Andy leaves out an important fact – Wisconsin is relevant and worth avoiding because they actually beat quality opponents at home on a regular basis. Marquette isn’t even worth taking the time to actively say ‘no’ to playing them. However, he throws out that UK is “avoiding playing Marquette at all costs”. He backs that up with tons of zero evidence, a classic troll move.
In what Andy calls “another decision in a long history of Kentucky being afraid to Marquette”, he states that “[UK/Cal/Barnhardt] knew what they were avoiding when they allowed the [Big East-SEC] Invitational to change”. To believe so would be absurd, and make someone a bigger idiot than their blogger-profile-picture makes them out to be. Obviously, this guy doesn’t believe this crazy statement, but it was another purposeful go-to troll tool.
“This means there have been 50 years of Kentucky running scared from Marquette, and 71 years of Kentucky refusing to come to Milwaukee to play! That game in 1961 was in Chicago!” – Internet yelling in hopes of making his point more credible can be seen in many trolls. Andy throws out the number of years since UK played Marquette in the regular season as if it is proof that Kentucky is avoiding the Golden Eagles. Yes, MU beat UK in 1961. Yes, MU beat UK in two NCAA tournament games in recent memory. But, NO, Marquette is not relevant in the college basketball world, especially since Dwyane Wade and Tom Crean left town.
This was a well-played troll, and nearly had me. That fact that I wouldn’t be the least bit afraid if you gave me 10 points and let me pick 10 of my high school friends to play against MU aside, Andy forgot to mention one of the cardinal rules of college basketball, as spoken by a former Marquette coach – “They had it before you, they had it during you, they’ll have it when you’re gone” – Al McGuire on Kentucky Basketball Tradition. You never had it. Sorry.
Still, Troll-Cuban is impressed.

Please God…don’t make us play Marqueette!
May 19th, 2011 at 4:13 pm
Slow news day huh?
May 19th, 2011 at 4:17 pm
wow….Chris Thomas, whoever you are, you have NO clue about college basketball tradition. To say Wisconsin in more relevant then Marquette just shows you ignorance. Marquette has not only won a championship been to a recent final 4 but was in the sweet 16 this year….when was the last time Wisconsin didn’t lose in the 1st round? what an idiot

Can we call child services on him for letting his baby have a beer bottle?
“I swear it looked full to me when he gave it to the baby…”
Anyway, let’s be serious… if Marquette were relevant more than once or twice a decade, I’m sure we’d put them on the schedule. Otherwise, we’ll stick to Duke, UNC, Michigan State, Louisville (man I hate giving them credit, but crap at least they’ve done something lately), UConn, etc…

May 19th, 2011 at 4:24 pm
The trolling is going to be a major success now that it’s been posted on KSR.
May 19th, 2011 at 4:26 pm
I discredit Brewtown Andy because he is a Boise State Football fan. Definitely a troll post.
May 19th, 2011 at 4:28 pm
Wow, I think this is a new low, a blog post about comments on another site.

#3 KSRisajoke/troll/etc.
Wisconsin Tourny History:
2 Final Fours
23-16 Record
1 Championship (1941)
17 Tourny appearances
Marquette Tourny History:
3 Final Fours
36-30
1 Championship (1977)
29 Tourny Appearances
Marquette is marginally better than Wisconsin… and nowhere near UK.

For all those not in the know of today’s state of trolling, it is recognized as a purposeful joke in order to cause a ruckus by calling it a ‘troll’.
May 19th, 2011 at 4:32 pm
I eat trolls for breakfast!
May 19th, 2011 at 4:33 pm
I just want to apologize to Brewtown Andy that Kentucky can’t play everyone in the country. It obviously just means we’re scared of whoever doesn’t get scheduled in the in the 35-40 games that we play. We must be shaking in our boots when it comes to playing those big-time Big East schools like Providence, DePaul and Marquette. We just have to settle for playing UConn and Louisville, I suppose.

reddit is everywhere!
May 19th, 2011 at 5:04 pm
Or maybe they can be one of the tourney stepping stones in an earlier round on UK’s way to number 8

I bleed Ky blue but admit to being a closet Marquette fan. If you’re a fan of cbb period, it was hard not to get attached to the trio of Matthews, McNeal and James a few yrs ago. Matthews is on the verge of being an annual all-star in Portland and McNeal should stick to an NBA roster next year after killing the D league. My fave team was the underdog yr of Lazar Hayward after the trio left (First-round pick of the T-Wolves last yr). Although I’ve questioned some of his in-game coaching strategies, I love Buzz’s sideline antics/dancing, raspy voice, passion for the game and longshot story of becoming a head coach. Honestly, the Golden Eagles haven’t missed a beat since Crean left, although the program is now known as JUCO U. Gonna miss Jimmy Bulter but DJO3 is back along with Crowder, Otule, Blue, Cadougan, Gardner and whatever new juco guys they’ve brought in lol. Oh and get ready for Vander Blue’s upcoming breakout soph season (homegrown Wisc kid who picked Marquette over the likes of Wisky and other big-named schools).

3) yeah but id rather play marquette at their place than the badgers at madison any year
May 19th, 2011 at 5:16 pm
3)last year…and even your local media barely gives a hoot about you guys…and you guys lost to Lousiville twice last year…nuff said
May 19th, 2011 at 5:19 pm
If Marquette had taken care of business against UNC in THIS YEAR’s NCAA tournament, they would have gotten a shot at the Cats. Instead, they lost by a thousand and trailed by an embarrassing 40-15 margin at the half. Eat it Marquette.
May 19th, 2011 at 5:23 pm
Why would anybody be scared of a team that squandered an 18 point lead with under 10 minutes left against Louisville?
May 19th, 2011 at 5:24 pm
So we’re posting random troll remarks now?
May 19th, 2011 at 5:52 pm
“news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible”
That’s what the banner at the top says. They are only doing the same thing KSR is famous for… being ‘ridiculous’. Whatever that means… is that even a word?
Louisville Hate Day, Tennessee Mock Facebook Page, They Are Who We Thought They Are, Rick Pitino Trial. That’s journalism… Do whatever you can to get peoples eyes on your writing. As the old saying goes, fool me once…

Is Al Mcguire still coaching there?
May 19th, 2011 at 6:12 pm
Come on guys. This was obviously SARCASM intended to make fun of Wisconsin’s AD who seriously said that Roy Williams was scared to play Wisconsin. Get it? Marquette and Wisconsin are rivals. But sure enough, all the idiots come out of the woodwork and miss the sarcasm and take the guy seriously, making kentucky fans look stupid. Chris Thomas, you are no smarter than the people who don’t understand that not jerry tipton is sarcasm. You just made yourself look like a fool.

This post is a complete failure. 29 explains why.

I’m with 29 & 30. This Chris Thomas guy is an idiot. Note to UK fans: Don’t respond to this Marquette post. It has nothing to do with us.
May 19th, 2011 at 7:34 pm

Chris Thomas…FAIL!
May 19th, 2011 at 9:07 pm
Just in case the Marquette fan was serious, or just in case a fan or fans of some other school or schools is reading this, let me say, everybody wants Kentucky. Why should we want to play you. Every school in the SEC wants to be our rival in basketball. Every school in the state of Kentucky wants to be our rival. Lots of schools in bordering states want to be our rival. WE DON’T NEED ANY MORE RIVALS! Just to use Marquette as an example, no offense, but why would we want you as a rival? What would we get out of this? I understand what you would get out of this, but what’s in it for us? Marquette enhances its rep by beating Kentucky, but would Kentucky enhance its rep by beating Marquette? Marquette gets more revinue for its program by playing home and home with Kentucky, but does Kentucky get more revenue by playing home and home with Marquette? There are plenty of schools that will come to Rupp and play us with no expectation of us going to their place. Marquette, you have a nice tradition, but we don’t need to play you.

Thanks for wasting our time talking about a troll and trying to manufacture “news”. I hope you take the constructive criticsm within these comments and never write about anything like this again. Unless atroll commits a crime, we don’t care!
