Stan Simpson to Memphis

by @ 6:27 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Tiger blood

In more UK recruiting news, Stan Simpson did in fact commit to Memphis today. After Braeden Anderson chose Kansas earlier in the day, Simpson seemed to be the last possible big man to fill a potential fifth recruiting spot in the 2011 class.

I don’t think either one of these guys can be seen as a huge loss, but you have to wonder why they wouldn’t want to join a stacked UK team with available minutes in the front court. Is Terrence Jones coming back? Probably not, but we can dream.

What about the transfer aaric Murray from lasalle?

  2. NBA league pass Says:

I wonder if there are any big bodies in JUCO we could go after? If/when Jones leaves, we are going to be a little on the skinny side in the paint next year.

  3. Big Blue 66 Says:

Is it just me, or does it seems strange both of these guys commitvirtually at the same time on a sunday afternoon? Wonder if Cal knows something and made the calls to them that we no longer were in the hunt and they had one other option that they wanted so they pulled the trigger.

  4. Jim Says:

Uk twitter people unfollow this kid. He was retweeting Tigers fans when Memphis won the weak ass CUSA tourney. He wants nothing to do with a Final Four.

  5. MN UK FAN Says:

So will we put the full court press of Lacey?

  6. tdogg4033011 Says:

who cares?? we gonna be bad ass next year ….. its his loss

  7. GrenadeWhistle Says:

    What about God’s Gift?

  8. Viren Says:

I say let’s get Lacey and call it a day!!!

  9. just-ice Says:

What is Kentuckys nickname to sign up on Kentucky sports network

  10. Pikeville25 Says:

Probably because UK wasnt recruiting either….neither had an offer….I dunno why u all thought they were a priority for Cal, this isnt a big deal, if Cal wanted, he wud have offered.

  11. Ashley Judd Says:

Who cares? Eloy Vargas gonna be solid next year…

  12. BBN Says:

    9) wildcats

  13. Reality Says:

3 star players don’t turn down uk anymore. Obviously Cal didn’t want these guys so they went elsewhere. No worries.

  14. just-ice Says:

    12. Thanks I kept putting the bluegrass state

  16. UK Says:

8 posts in a row by Matthew Hays…he is burnin it up

  17. coco Says:

damm im lost now, who we gona recruit now? we need another big

  18. Jim Andrews Says:

I do think it means Jones is coming back. Throw in Lacey, and what a team UK’s gonna have. WOO HOO!

  19. crawford01 Says:

I think they both knew Eloy got this locked up, they didn’t want to bench

  20. mudcreekmark Says:

I cannot find the guy rated in top 100 any where so who cares. Why waste a scholly on him when we can add another top 20 recruit to next years class.

  21. skip Says:

I think it is just the opposite. No 3-star is going to sign with Kentucky because of the way that Cal played this year. Hood and Poole saw no playing time. Right or wrong, players are going to look at this year and think they do not want to sign with a team and sit for 4 years.

  22. DO THE JOHN WALL NOW Says:

jones is coming back, book it.

  23. Stue'niqua Says:

I have a good feeling TJ is coming back!

  24. BigBlueBart Says:

I never wanted Simpsons. Did any of you follow him on Twitter? Seems like a thug. We will be just fine with who we have, though I would love to get Lacey!

  25. Tito Santana Says:

I’m expecting solid backup minutes out of Vargas…. If jorts taught us anything this years it is just that….I said that to a buddy recently and he said “no way harrelsons hands are too good”….I agree that harrelsons hands are great but I never noticed that last year or the year before….I believe and count on eloy for a solid 10-15 mins next year

  26. reedwizard Says:

Vargas blows. We won’t do anything next year if he is getting 15 minutes a game. “Book it!”

  27. harvester of sorrow Says:

This might mean that everybody is coming back. cal probably thought jones would be one n done when he started recruiting these guys, but he dont need em now b/c jones is coming back maybe, hopefully. i believe if cal really wanted these guys, he would have gotten them…………

  28. Shawn Says:

For one Murray wont be able to play next year. For two we dont have a schollie to give Lacey until someone leaves. So If our guys dont decide until after he committs then we are screwed. Thridly If Jones leaves he will not replace him with Lacey (a guard) he will go after a big body from somewhere hopefully. Just the same Is Lamb, Knight, Liggins leave he will replace them with a guard and not a big man. Fourthly. I do find It amazing odd that both guys committ to what was known as their second choices on the same day just a couple hours apart. TJones has been going to all his classes and I expect him to come back now. Before today I thought he was gone. But, these series of events are fully pointing to TJ coming back.

  29. Shawn Says:

BTW If everyone comes back we still are losing two guys to the NBA draft. Kanter and Harrelson.

  30. Cat_Fan Says:

I think this is the year that having a group of kids who came up just short of a national championship, they got that taste and might want to stay and win one. This is probably Miller’s best opportunity to go and what if he were the only early departure? One thing that I don’t think enough is made of, especially considering the success that Harrelson had from practicing against Enes, what about the experience that the kids would have next year practicing against Knight, Lamb, Liggins, and Jones? Knight is pretty good, but how much better would he have been if he practiced against Wall? I would love to see the Cats get to the point that we were selling kids on 2 years and being a lottery pick as a result of the practice time that they would get against the best talent in the country in PRACTICE…

  31. Insider Says:

Hearing Jones will declare in the next couple days.

  32. Shawn Says:

Cal better get used to selling kids on 2 years in college. The new CBA will require it.

  33. UKblue29 Says:

    31) Hope not, but I doubt he returns.

  34. KEVIN Says:

Well my sister is married to Rod and he told me today both TJ and BK will be back explains it all. BBN what a glorious day god bless coach Cal. Book it

  35. KEVIN Says:

Matt and Thomas if you dont beleive me hit me up at my email and i’ll give you my nbr so you can varify the info.

  36. cracka Says:

first of all, whether anybody declares for the draft or not doesn’t mean anything, so who cares?! the guys that aren’t coming back are the ones who declare and then either hire an agent or don’t pull their name out before the deadline … that’s what matters, not who declares

second, kansas has a lot of minutes with morris kids trying to go pro and memphis is pretty stacked, too … they’re gonna have three 5* freshman coming back for next year and another 5* recruit this year to along with simpson

all 3 teams are good, we’re not gonna get everybody

  37. Chucktown Says:

    34) Thought Rod was divorced, what is his wife’s name?

  38. KEVIN Says:

The former Arlene if you must know

  39. play play Says:

ight well i think cal is always pullin somethin out of his sock. so im expecting tj to come back. if he does ky will be a top team, but im not tryna tlk bout other team but UNC will also be stacked to. cuz they have everybody comin back. but if ky gets tj. our sl will be teague lamb gilchrist jones davis. important on the bench liggins, miller, wiltjer and maybe vargas. but we would atleast have a 8 man rotation and gilchrist and miller both can play the 4 to give jones a rest. i think just havin those 8 will win us a championship.

  40. play play Says:

ay kevin i hope ur right. because if we get both of them then our team will be loaded, but i dont even care if knight comes back. yea hes good but we ahve someone to take his position, but not one of the freshmen can take jones spot.

  41. parvenu1 Says:

#26. You blow! Perhaps you can step in and take Vargas’ minutes.

  42. Wildbluefan Says:

Jones is as good as gone, and he is no more ready for the NBA than Randolph Morris was ! I hope he goes, I see him as a “cancer” on next year’s team !

  43. serdi Says:

TJ will be back at UK

  44. Crush little red Says:

Actually rod s IS married to cheryl

  45. Cats Says:

Why does TJ catch so much hell from u ppl. No TJ=No final four for us this year!!!

  46. KEVIN Says:

If you notice I said former once a bro always a bro.

  47. Big Blue 66 Says:

All I saw out of Jones this year was a kid that despite having his numbers go down and his offense struggle, he kept playing hard, kept hitting the boards and kept working. I like the kid and hope like hell he stays another year. I think it would really help him both bball wise and personally.

  48. billy Says:

I would like to know just what Pastner is promising these players to get them to commit. Anyone should know that Kentucky is the best place to get a championship ring with Calipari.

  49. Ben Says:

I have given up on Vargas after the Uconn game! He was afraid to put the ball up inside. I wish he would leave, because if he plays at all next year we are in trouble.

  50. dvorak Says:

Kansas-Ben Mclemore, Naadir Tharpe, Braeden Anderson vs. Teague, Gilchrist, Davis & Wiltjer
Memphis-Stan Simpson & Adonis Thomas vs. Teague, Gilchrist, Davis & Wiltjer

Wow, those are both very close races……but wait, I must not have been looking very closely because the only player I can remember seeing in any of the All-Star games was Thomas…and it wasn’t easy to see him since…..certain UK commitments were soaking up a lot of the minutes, points, rebounds, blocks and praise. I think this and related threads show just how spoiled (and perhaps impetuous) that we’ve all become in the last two years. We’re UK fans because it is in our blood, we love the team, it is part of culture as Kentuckians and we’re never satisfied with anything……no matter. I say these things really for my own admonishment as I’ve come far too quickly to expect that we can get and do anything that we want….regardless of who does or doesn’t return and who we do or don’t get, we cannot expect anything more or greater than what we’ve already got…which is an awful lot-let’s just enjoy that and quit acting like we’re somehow in need or facing some kind of a deficit:)

  51. Cosmic Wrangler Says:

Jones is staying! nah, doesn’t matter anyway, we’ll beat both off those schools if we get the chance to play’em.

  52. UKblue29 Says:

Terrence Jones looks like a mental giant.

  53. Beer 30 Says:

42 I dont think Jones is a cancer, just look at how he changed this year, he went from being the guy, to a team player…. a role that you can tell he wasnt used to but he did it for the team and if he comes back it just goes show ya how much team player he is, b/c he must know next years team wont have one go to guy, its gunna have six or seven go to guys and no team should be able to stop us b/c we answer at every position, even off the bench, and thats even if knight doesnt back… and if cal utilizes his players right nobody should average over 14-15 ppg game, its should be an equal attack offensively… But i think Jones is the key because with him back and Davis, Miller, Gilchrist, Liggins(if he comes back)and even Vargas we are gunna be a defensive juggernaut, unstoppable on the boards, be blocking shots galore and thats how we will win a championship…. DEFENSE… without him though we will still be a favorite, but be softer in the paint and more vulnerable on defense

  54. ky1der Says:

Still think we should go for Otto Porter from Sikeston, Mo.

  55. Lou eaton Says:

Jones had the best game against UCONN of all our players (except for fts). If Knight or someone else had stepped up we would have bombed UCONN. Vargas DID have five rebounds which was a contribution and he will continue to improve with more time which he will get next year.

  56. bung Says:

woulda won if we had run

  57. Catman Says:

    28) If TJ and Knight decided to come back, it wouldn’t be a problem scholly wise if Lacey committed. 4 current incoming recruits for 4 scholly’s available next year. UK would simply put Polson back to walk-on status to free one up for Lacey.
