Oh how recruiting can change! After Kentucky Ink reported last weekend that Terrence Boyd was ready to commit to Kentucky, another blog has found a different likely result. Jody Demling, co-host of Sports Night, reports on his blog today that Boyd may now have lost serious interest in the Cats. According to comments attributed to Boyd by another website, his coaches have told him that Kentucky fans have been “talking mess” and criticizing him in recent weeks. Because of that, Boyd said that Kentucky “may be adios.” In addition, his high school coach has told him that Kentucky said he only had an offer if Daniel Orton came to campus, another fact that if true, according to Boyd, “the adios it definitely will be.”
Pretty interesting stuff…..it shows that these kids do follow what the fans say on message boards (there were a couple of unfortunate comments in one thread I have heard, although I didnt see it myself and dont think they were widespread). Plus it makes one wonder just how solid the offer was to Boyd in the first place, a question that was continually raised to me in my conversations about him. Very interesting developments on this Tuesday…..

Strange story. Concentrate on studying instead of message boards would be my advice. Good Luck to you Terrence.
Ok time to focus on Daniel Orton, Daniel Orton, and Daniel Orton for 2009.

One of these days, the small number of “fans” who refuse to be civil on the message boards, may really hurt our chances with a serious recruit.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:13 am
If a kid is going to put stock into what some idiot says on a message board, he might need to seek a location that is low profile. Or maybe no profile. Geesh, You could probably find similar comments on every other team’s board. What was said, anyway?
October 7th, 2008 at 10:14 am
People are still reluctant to admit that kids DO read message boards and it DOES matter to them…Be careful what you say. As for a little advice….If you would not say something to someone’s face, don’t have the nerve to post it on a message board.
I’m guessing that 99.9% of what would be deemed as hurtful in the way of recruiting would not be said in person…

For supposedly being a marginal student, his Spanish is phenomenal.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:16 am
5, now that was funny…applause
October 7th, 2008 at 10:16 am
TB, We can stop buttering him up now since he has dropped UK..
October 7th, 2008 at 10:20 am
4# I agree with you. But idiots do not. Rule number 2 would be to never put any stock in what an idiot says.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:23 am
What’s to stop fans of rival
schools pretending they are
UK fans and posting nasty
things about prospects on our
boards? A kid stupid enough
to believe what he reads on
any school’s message boards
needs to get real.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Matt you’ve really got to clean up this comments section. There’s a lot of vile down here.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:28 am
Good to see this kid runs when someone says something bad about him instead of using it as motivation.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:28 am
Oh well.
Next.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:28 am
We need to institute a sophisticated black ops program to talk crap only on OTHER TEAMS’ boards for a change. That way, the negative people among us can still vent, and it helps instead of hurting the Cats.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:31 am
rolleyes at #2. i bet you’re one of those people who curls up into the fetal position when someone has an undesirable opinion of you.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:33 am
We have some stupid people on here sometimes. Talking trash about a highschool kid is childish. I see it on here almost everytime recruiting news is posted.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:35 am
14, 11, 9… Are you guys just plain stupid? This kid is a quality get and now you are guilty of what this exact thread was about. Dont talk smack about him on here, bc it does no good. You definitely wouldnt say to him or anyone that knows him, so dont say it on here. He may very well come and read these comments, and see that “UK fans are talking mess”. You will be the idiots who are guilty of talking mess.

Matt, I love this blog, but you were pretty blatant in your bashing of Boyd’s supposed academic short-comings…
October 7th, 2008 at 10:44 am
To Mr. Boyd: I know of what you speak and how the crew at KentuckySportsRadio blog can write things that hurt your feelings and make you want to look elsewhere.

^^My point being, if someone is that thin skinned, how do you think they would be able to get through the grind of becoming mentally tough at Boot Camp.
It takes more than talent to become a CAT these days.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:49 am
If the report is true, then there’s another example of how our message boards serve the best interests of the team by weeding out the weak of mind.
October 7th, 2008 at 10:49 am
#19-LOL. Does anybody even read his blog?
October 7th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Adios amigos, there’s always barber college.

Donde esta la biblioteca?
October 7th, 2008 at 11:00 am
If you are going to have the largest most passionate fan base in the country You are going to get different opinions on about everything. It comes with the teritory and I’ll take the good over the bad. To think that you can get a group this size to pull punches is silly. What do they say about hearding Cats?
October 7th, 2008 at 11:05 am
Why do Kentucky fans on the internet act so stupid?
I live in Lexington. I know that most of us aren’t this dumb - but after reading this post, and then reading these comments, the amount of stupid in here makes me do a facepalm.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Donde esta la biblioteca? (Where is the library) funny!
October 7th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Some of you can’t be serious. I’m embarrassed.
First of all, I hereby retire the phrase “talking mess” and demand you cease and desist it’s use if you are typing, and/or you are older than 17.
Secondly, do any of you really think what you type in a little box on a computer screen is valuable enough to sway any recruit’s decision on their future destination of “higher learning”? Honestly, you do?
OK, I’m sorry if his feelings were hurt if he read about his “academic shortcomings” on a message board hosted, literally, on the other side of the country (I’m guessing this is not breaking news to him). So, Terrance, (since I know you and your coach are *attempting* to read this together) please accept our collective apology…and for Pete’s sake, update your Facebook status, as it now reads “I hate them meanies from Kahntuckee”. We still think you are a great prospect, you would make a wonderful addition to our 40-man roster, and we promise to not make mean comments (excluding the one(s) above) anymore.
Lastly, does anyone have a problem if every offer we make has a Daniel Orton clause in it? O.K. by me.
Some of you, including Terrance and his coach, need to grow up and “live in the now” (thank you, Wayne Campbell). I guarantee he will hear a TON worse from the real coach he will have in JuCo.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:22 am
I’m not saying a kid should or should not put stock into the matter, I am just saying that they DO…but buy all means let’s keep doing it, it “shouldn’t” bother anyone so therefore it “doesn’t”…nice logic. I just wonder how many times this will have to be mentioned before our fanbase adjusts their voice on message boards…
October 7th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Terrence Boyd from Scout.com: Warrior type wing player who excels in AAU settings. Has definitely shown improvement with his jumper heading into senior season but needs to stick it consistently. Strong kid who wants to get out and run and should seek a situation that will allow him to get up and down the court. Excels in fast tempo situations, except when cramming for exams. Does not like people who talk mess.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Well, then, he wasn’t good enough to play at UK in the first place…. unless he changes his mind.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:35 am
It has to be the preteens on TCP that talks about bad he was.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:36 am
21- exactly. Being thin-skinned sucks when you believe everything you hear, and obviously, this kid does.
He’s already said “adios” to us, why are we still kissing his arse?
He should ask Joe Crawford for thicker skin developement plans instead of being a crybaby about it.
Anyone else see the irony in his statements versus his tough as a nut pose in his pics?
October 7th, 2008 at 11:36 am
As I have said before, all the big fish can’t be put in the same fish bowl. These me, me, me kids can’t all co-habitate on the same team. Not enough time in the spotlight. If all the big names came to UK, boy would there be a lot of talent sitting on the bench.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:36 am
#30– I will purchase 2 means and send 2 others as a gift. (buy all means, carry on)
October 7th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Talking mess about Jared Carter never caused him to transfer. Look at where he is now…got a hot girl on both arms. I rest my case.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:39 am
32/ Good stuff!
I think players come to UK to play for the coach and school/program (in no particular order). If they consider how the fan base feels about them, then they are playing for the wrong reasons. All fans should, for the majority, be happy with the decisions that BCG and the gang chooses to represent. Good luck to you Mr. Boyd.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:43 am
He told the site that his coaches have been telling him “they have been reading (Kentucky) fans talking mess. If I find that out I guess it will be adios for them.”
His coaches are the ones filling his head with this stuff.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:46 am
Pearl and Donovan are paying his coaches to divert his interest in UK.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Weird. I mean, does he think that every single fan at the school that he chooses is going to be head over heels in love with him? UK’s a different animal. He’s better suited playing somewhere else if he can’t handle a little scrutiny.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:49 am
36, got me;) But can you refute my point?
October 7th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Shortly after Patterson signed his LOI, he mentioned that the major factor in his decision to attend UK was the ubiquitos praise and support he received from the comments section on KSR, and the many message board polls he “won” that asked which prospect UK fans would most like to have. I believe the same polls, and other various message board comments made about Jai Lucas and his height, had the adverse effect during his recruitment. Neither mentioned tradition, proximity to home, potential to win a championship, playing time, or the coaching staff.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
SP93.9– I “buy” no means am someone that should make fun of anyone about spelling. I am horrible about it. That being said, I could not resist.
As for your point, read my previous posts at #20 and #21.

Strange comments from Boyd.
October 7th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
The lack of knowledge by many here is astounding…. Boyd was never going to be able to commit to UK cause UK doesn’t want him (barring a requirement by Orton that he be at UK, which is unlikely to happen). He’s a good player, but not the type that BCG needs for his system. Just not a great fit. His remarks have little to do with any fan remarks and more to do with the fact he now realizes that UK won’t take a commit right now.
mm
October 7th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Thanks Marc.
October 7th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Sounds like an excuse to me. Nobody in a forum legally represents a program, not even MM. lol
October 7th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
I’ll admit that some UK fans say some harsh things on message boards, but I have also seen fans of other schools (mostly Louisville) act like they are UK fans just to inject negativity. Who knows who these people really are? Boyd is going to have to go to a no name school where they don’t give a crap about basketball if he wants to avoid reading negative comments on a message board.
