Cats Dominate, Cantwell Poops the Bed

by @ 6:56 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Currently the finest QB in the Bluegrass.

I would imagine that Kragthorpe’s security detail has gone on high alert. Actually, probably not, because Louisville fans only care about basketball—now.

From Ashton and Randall Cobb, to Mike Hartline’s minimal mistakes, to Myron Pryor’s ramble, that was a fun one. 27-2; that really has a better ring than 27-0, anyway.

Enjoy yourselves this evening/in the comments.

One more thing, if I don’t see every one of you wearing this shirt next weekend, I’ll probably weep.

  1. TimTamTavern Says:

    Sweet!

  2. BravoBigBlue Says:

I had it 27 - 20 Cats. Just missed it by a zero. Is that close enough?

  3. GoCats Says:

27-2!! Someone needs to sell T-Shirts with that score on the front. I guarantee every UK fan will get one!

  4. CHunter Says:

    I would

  5. veeper Says:

    I bet Matt is overwhelmed

  6. gooch3803 Says:

Kragthorpe must be thinking “Coach Brooks’ ass really tastes like shit” right now. Go CATS!

  7. veeper Says:

Hmmmmmm, looks like a bowl in the future

  8. Ryan Says:

How is Hunter Cantwell projected as the #1 QB in the NFL Draft?

  9. admankyfan Says:

Couldn’t have asked for me. 2 really does have a better ring. And, it only has one syllable…so even Cardinal fans can understand!

    Go Blue!

  10. BillyClyde4President Says:

-Hartline was rough but should improve. At least I hope so or else the SEC will destroy us.

-Big Myro looked beautiful running that fumble back. That was the best part of the game.

-Some big hits were also fun to watch in this one and I love our “D”

    -Our running game needs CPR

-I hope Randall Cobb gets more snaps at QB. He’ll blow our minds if he does.

-Last, but not least: NOTHING is sweeter than beating Loserville at their place.

    GO CATS!!!!!

  11. flener55 Says:

Before today I had always thought I could definitely beat Myron Pryor in a foot race. Now I’m not so sure.

  12. chandrathan1 Says:

    8) His mom did the rankings.

  13. BillyClyde4President Says:

8: If he doesn’t change his release then he won’t play the rest of the year for UofL, let alone the NFL!!!!

  14. chandrathan1 Says:

that smiley face was supposed to be an 8

  15. Ryan Says:

    11. With all due respect, if you can’t beat Pryor in a foot race, then you are either very very very slow and/or fat.

  16. gman Says:

UK scored all the points 27 for UK and 2 for UL

  17. CalifCatFan Says:

Bet next time Loserville gives Matt press credentials. They were destined to lose for dissin’ Matt. You don’t mess with KSR.

  18. UK-Believe Says:

Pryor is actually very fast…has really quick feet…for 310 lbs, he is fast!

  19. BillyClyde4President Says:

I noticed that ESPN has yet to put anything on their home page about the UK crushing of UofL. That makes me sick because if Loserville won the game, it would be in HUGE BOLD letters!!! I even went to the ESPN College Football scoreboard and had to scroll a mile down the page just to see the box score!!! ESPN hates UK and it kills them to have to put an article about us on the front page.

    GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. ekuwalls182 Says:

Right now, I think EKU’s QB looks better than either that we saw today! The running game isn’t bad… it just need a qb who can throw a deep ball in bounds. They had about 9 people stacked up on the line every play! The next two weeks will give Hartline a chance to prove if he can be the guy to put up points or just be a game manager. Also…the two points he gave up isn’t cool…it ruined the shut out.

But other than that, the defense was impressive and was fun to watch Louisville falter repeatedly!

  21. toddpacker Says:

Man Randall Cobb looked good. I sure wish Pulleys silly ass would have been out there. Maybe Hartline gets it together. I thought they should have thrown to Drake more, because he looks like he could be a good target. Oh well Hartlines 1st start and he managed things alright, atleast alot better than the bacformer backup who Cards fans argued was better than Woodson last year. What a joke.

  22. pookster85 Says:

Defense looks great. Our offense only scored 6 points. Hope they get better. They should have plenty of time for Alabama. Our D looks good enough to beat the next 3.

  23. BillyClyde4President Says:

Earlier I said Hartline was rough and he was but I must give him credit. He had 0 picks in his 1st ever game in which he had to take the field in front of 70,000 fans that hate UK!!!! He had to be nervous and it was evident in some of his passes. He’ll mature but it takes time and I just hope he can do so before the BAMA game.

  24. BillyClyde4President Says:

    Finally, ESPN prints something:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=282440097

  25. Clarence Mason Says:

Hartline looks shaky but I’d rather have him than Cant-throw-Well. I think Norfolk St. will give us a better game.

  26. UK81 Says:

The Tim Masthay punt following the safety was a HUGE play. He kicked it from his 20 to the goal line. It definitely stemmed the tide of a potential momentum change in the game.

  27. kdgking Says:

Remind all of your favorite UofSmell fans what the ‘L’ stands for on their hats!!!!!

  28. boots45 Says:

Honestly, that game was hard to watch. Paint drying was more exciting offensively. We’ve got a long way to go. I would be surprised if UL wins a Big East game.

  29. uk-cats736 Says:

Didn’t Loserville have a 5 star recruit coming to the game today. It was the RB out of Oklahoma. Maybe we can pull him in like we did Newton. Crapthorpe is a great coach…I hope Loserville keeps him for years to come. We may never lose to them again!!

  30. Katfanalways Says:

27 - 2, What else do you want against an offense and defense they had never seen. BE HAPPY!!! GO CATS!!!

  31. pacadermatologismystic cat Says:

24- did you read the last 2 paragraphs in that link? They just had to throw that in there, I guess.

  32. BillyClyde4President Says:

I agree that UK has a LONG ways to go, especially on offense. I love our “D” but if I must say something about them on a negative level, it would be that I wish they would play with more intensity. I would love to see our front four jumping around and pumping each other up and exploding off the line quicker and talking smack to the other team and all that good stuff. The “D” looks great but they lack that killer instinct right now and they won’t be feared until they find it. Realistically speaking, UK should start 4-0 now but after that, it will be VERY hard to get 2 more wins to become bowl eligible and it will be nearly impossible to get to a major bowl game this year UNLESS Hartline turns into Tim Couch and the running backs turn into Pinner and Moe Williams.

  33. jl in ohio Says:

i missed the 1st part of the game. did dicky lyons jr. catch a pass today? were any thrown his way?

  34. KevininLoveland Says:

26-Great point, I thought that too. (That is what makes it a great point!)

  35. meeksistheman Says:

Where is LouisvilleFanCraig. I thought he was a diehard UL fan. He talked a lot of smack on the game thread but I don’t see him now.

I guess he is a bandwagon fan

  36. gorbe ye abi Says:

It was just as good a win from over here in Afghanistan. That Defense is a sight for sore eyes. Happy as hell to see all the hard work of the coaches and players pay off with a win like this.

    Go Big Blue!

[Shameless Blog Plug follows] http://hereticdhammasangha.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/kentucky-pounds-lo uisville-and-d-e-f-e-n-s-e-wins-the-day/

  37. toddpacker Says:

    where you at bigrob?

  38. meeksistheman Says:

    LOUISVILLEFANCRAIG, WHERE ARE YOU

  39. ukcatfan88 Says:

David Jones played a heck of a game today.

Kragthorpe how’s my *** taste, part deux. Tastes like a shutout at home should taste……Bitter. With a hint of beans and those chlli dogs I ate yesterday.

  40. i heart bud mackey Says:

Put in Cobb full time! What could it hurt?

  41. jman3715 Says:

Gotta love it. UofL’s rivals page changed the headline story to basketball already. HAAAAA HAAAA

    HAAA

    HA

  42. harlanhomeboy Says:

People can say what they want about Hartline, but I came away very impressed with how he handled himself today. Going in I was hoping that our young offense just wouldn’t make stupide mistakes, and by all means Hartline and co. didn’t (the safety wasn’t good, but that was the O-lines fault, it was either get sacked in the endzone for the safety or throw it away like he did). Not to make mistakes against your arch-rival on the road is a great accomplishment and confidence builder for the QB from Canton. These next three games should help propel the offense and Hartlines confidence so hopefully we can have some success in the conference. Great job CATS, the D shined and the offense didn’t screw up!! GO BIG BLUE

  43. caseman Says:

Why is everyone piling on the quarterback after dominating our favored rival in his first ever start?

  44. spaldingsmails Says:

26–Agreed. But I am pretty sure he teed it up.

  45. The King Says:

#23 BillyClyde4President: 70,000 fans that hate UK? I don’t know where you got that number from but U of L’s place only holds about 42,000. I’m glad we beat Louisville but the crowds will get bigger and louder.

  46. BillyClyde4President Says:

Tim Couch’s first start was a disaster at Florida and UK lost something like 67-3. Harline’s first start ends with a 27-2 win at Loserville so let’s give him a chance and see what he’s made of.

  47. justlew1979 Says:

because the cards were terrible, we have to get through the sec. I still think we can do 7-5 without having to pull an upset. The best thing about Hartline is Morgan Newton is excited about starting as a freshman

  48. UK81 Says:

    #45-I stand corrected.

  49. UK81 Says:

    Outlook for Season:
    Norfolk State W
    Middle Tennessee W
    WKU W
    Alabama L
    South Carolina W
    Arkansas W
    Florida L
    Mississippi State W
    Georgia L
    Vanderbilt W
    Tennessee W

Nine wins are not impossible. Pivotal games are South Carolina, Mississippi State and Tennessee.

  50. UK81 Says:

South Carolina and Arkansas are at home. Mississippi State loses its first game already and odds against Tennessee eventually have to go our way.

  51. BravoBigBlue Says:

Agreed Hartline wasn’t great, but he did not do anything to casue us to lose the game. The biggest problem for the offense was our offensive line. They did very little in opening lanes for the running backs and the safety was caused by the D-lineman beating his blocker. So let’s not bury the QB, especailly a game in which we kicked the Tards’ ass.

  52. pacadermatologismystic cat Says:

52-yep. Improvement in the o-line will do wonders for offensive production. Wonders.

  53. cerealkilla Says:

Wow, you think Vegas will be nicer to us next week?

I mean, they were only off on the line of this game by 29.

  54. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

-One thing is for sure guys we have some playmakers on D. Where do I start? Pryor was huge and just absolutely flipped the RB when he cause the fumble. David Jones played Great. Jarmon had some big plays. Of Course Lindley proved why he gets such praise. The D as a whole was just absolutely great. We can play with anybody with a D like this. If we would have had this D in Couch’s Day or Lorenzons we would have been scary.

-Randall Cobb is a future stud at WR, but I don’t think it would hurt to give him half the snaps in a game at QB at the least to see what he’s got. The future looks very bright with this kid.

-The Wide Reviever play didn’t look very good at all. With Tamme, Johnson and Burton I forgot that it was possible to drop balls. If Randall Cobb doesn’t start at QB he needs to be in the game opposite of DL3 the whole game. Hopefully Ford and Lanxter can come around. I think T.C. Drake could end up being huge for this team of O. He has very good hands.

-All three running backs looked good when there was somewhat of a hole opened. Our passing game has to do a better job of keeping the D honest and our O line has to do a better job of opening holes.

-Hartline did not look good, but he didn’t turn the ball over either. They kept throwing the floater pass and it just won’t work with Hartline. Woodson invented that pass for the coaching staff because he was naturally gifted to throw that pass. Hartline looked good when squaring up and throwing hard 15 yards down the middle. We have to play to his strengths if he is going to be the guy. I think he will improve after the next few games.

-I can’t believe that UofL fans actually thought they were going to win this game. They looked absolutely awful. I predict no better than 4-8 in the worst conference in the BCS. I sure hope they lose to SYRACUSE AGAIN.

-Cantwell has a good arm and a great build for the QB position in the NFL, but he doesn’t have the head.

  55. greenwell Says:

11, 15 & 18 - did you notice that Big Daddy Myron was actually outrunning the linesman?

  56. macon_volfan Says:

You might actually need an offense to beat TN and Arky #50. But we’ll see for sure in 23 hours. Also, I’m not convinced that holding UL scoreless is that much of an accomplishment, but time will tell I suppose.

Also, watch out for WKU…just sayin’.

  57. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

#33 I going to disagree with you on this one man. I like how our D goes about its business. They have a quiet confidence. I’m glad they don’t act like Loserville or Miami or some stupid thug school like that. They definately do have that killer instict. You saw it in this game and you saw it last year against LSU to end the game. This D is awesome period.

  58. greenwell Says:

Macon, how will it feel being 4-4 at best headed into November? You guys will be screaming for Fulmer’s head…….again!

  59. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

#57 You might get to see your arch nemesis take the field once we play you guys. You will sure hate it if Randall Cobb goes all nuts on UT. Since he is only a two star recruit. Our defense is good whether you fail to acknowledge it or give us mad props. Get ready for a beating cause it is coming your way. Now go hide in your belly button and STFU!!!

  60. meeksistheman Says:

macon_volfan must not be a hardcore football fan bc I my wife is an Arkansas fan and we went to the game and Arkansas sucks, I mean they absolutley sucks. They maybe worse the UL. I mean they absolutley suck. Western Ill sucks and they almsot be Arkansas and I was at the game, Western Ill did not play a good game at all.

  61. WildcatScratchFever Says:

I loved the stutter step Dickie had on the three Tards on the punt return. I think it was the first quarter. They all missed him! I only wish he was able to really get for some good yardage. All in all a solid game for Mr. Lyons.

  62. pacadermatologismystic cat Says:

61- Is Ark any good this year?

62- That was the old 23 skidoo.

  63. chucknorrisstotalgym Says:

Awesome defense today. Traditionally the defense is 2 weeks ahead of the offense. Hopefully, our running game improves.

  64. al Says:

I think this should be a thread of its own, but what creative names do you people have for Cantwell? I’ve already seen “Cant-throw-well” and “Cant-play-QB-well.” What else is there?

“Cant-use-a-fishing-pole-well” maybe? I don’t know, I’m out of ideas. Alcohol doesn’t exactly bring out my creative side.

    Go Cats!

  65. GoCats2010 Says:

we really need to slow the beating UT talk for now. I think we can beat Ark and/or USC but thats all Im gonna say about potential upsets

  66. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

    #65 How about CANTF***WELL.

  67. meeksistheman Says:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/rank?versionId=1&listId=16 1#topOfList

  68. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

#66 Nobody would say much about beating UT if the body by jake MACON VOLFAN didn’t open his big mouth.

  69. GoCats2010 Says:

    I think C*ntwell

  70. claibornefield Says:

First of all 47, if I remember correctly… you picked the tards to win. Hartline doestn’t need to be TIm Couch and our running backs don’t need to become Moe Williams to win 2 games in the SEC. A few more throwa don field to stretch out defenses, improved offensive line play, not so many touches to Dixon, and we’ll be OK. Relax.

  71. HanOfTheBluegrass Says:

    34) Dicky caught 2-3 passes, including a big possession pass on 3rd down. He was also the kick returner. He took some really hard hits, though. I’m not sure how well he was being covered, but Hartline wasn’t hitting anything deep (floated several passes).

As long as Hartline doesn’t try to throw too many bombs into traffic, I think he can come around. The bigger concern is if he has any reliable receivers. Dicky will be good for 5-10 tds this year, I think. Unfortunately, Cobb looked next best, and they’ll have to be careful with him as the backup QB. After that, I think only Adams had more than 1 catch. Hopefully Hartline can get comfortable with his receivers in the next few “cupcake” games.

And hopefully the O-line can open up some lanes. Our running game was supposed to be the big deal on offense with Dixon, Locke and Smith, not to mention Allen and Connor, but today, they didn’t do much til the Dixon td. And he followed that up with a fumble. Hopefully they can warm up and together wear down the other team’s D throughout the year.

And would someone tell Sieber to kick the ball up in the air a bit more? Yeah, it won’t help his accuracy, but it kills me the way he kicks so low.

Fantastic game by the D. Lindley, Cobb, Pryor, Jones, and McClinton all played lights out, with Moore and others chipping in.

  72. macon_volfan Says:

actually #69, I was replying to #50’s absurd comment that based on this game, UK would beat UT. Also, #57, if UK opened up at UCLA and didn’t get two DI-AA teams (norfolk and wku, don’t care if their in transition) there would be no bowl talk for the cats.

Also, Mulenber, I’m glad you’ve been reduced to personal attacks to make points. Yes, I’m somewhat overweight (I weigh 170) and I’m a lot hairy. So what?

  73. claibornefield Says:

    UT is overrated.

  74. greenwell Says:

I agree that our non-conf is cup cake city but my point is that UT will be lucky to finish 8-4. 7-5 is more likely and 6-6 is possible if we can end the streak or Vandy can get lucky at home. As you well know, that will not sit well in Knoxville and you boys will be talking basketball in Oct for the first time…………..ever.

  75. macon_volfan Says:

Andy, (if this isn’t Andy, sorry #75) I’ve been talking basketball since Rick and the Tards beat our buts in March. I love em both. Also, I just don’t see us going 8-4. 9-3, yes. We could lose to UGA, UF, and Auburn. That’s about it. Maybe Bama if they play lights out like last year (and last night). Still, that’s about right for this year. New OC, new QB, no receivers, and shaky defense…yep, sounds about right.

  76. BillyClyde4President Says:

I hate to tell you guys but if our offense doesn’t click soon, we might not even beat Norfolk State!!

  77. macon_volfan Says:

just out of curiosity, why 7-5?? UF, UGA, AU, and UA. Who else out of these: UCLA, UAB, NIU, VU, UK, MSU, Wyoming, USC???? Looks like 9-3 or 8-4 at worst.

  78. BillyClyde4President Says:

Our Defense is great but simply cannot stay on the field the entire game after Hartline and company go 3 and out every series. I take back my comment about maybe not beating Norfolk State but there’s no way UK will beat SEC teams if our DEFENSE has to live on the field.

  79. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

#73 Haven’t been reduced its been there all along. Also didn’t need it to make the point just wanted to make you feel bad about yourself. Although I didn’t mean to make you cry. SORRY DUDE. Most people don’t attack you because you are a freind of Matt’s. Just seems like you enjoy raining on our parade a little. We know the offense looked bad and we’ve got along way to go. We also know we will have to improve alot and play great to beat UT. SO WHAT?

  80. greenwell Says:

Not Andy. You definitely talk hoops year around but I’m talking about 99% of the UT fans out there. Other L will be at UCLA, at USC (Spurrier would love to talk trash to Fulmer again) or UK.

  81. macon_volfan Says:

*UCLA has no QB healthy, and they’re too concerned about talking smack with USC.
*The other USC has the same problem as UK, except about 50x worse. They have no offense (but they do have Superior as coach…).
*I refuse to believe that UK will beat UT unless Jerry Claiborne is the coach.

#80, No tears here in Macon because of you. Also, if people want to ‘attack’ me feel free, regardless of my friendship with Matt, et al. I’ve done pretty much nothing to provoke it. I’ve always been respectful on this site (I am a guest, after all), and when I’ve been ‘offensive,’ it’s clearly been in jest, usually with GoCats or someone else that’s on this site as much as me. I didn’t mean to rain on the poster’s parade. You beat a big rival today. Congrats. It does take talent to shut out a team, no matter how awful. But it wasn’t an impressive enough victory for #50 to all of a sudden proclaim 9 wins and a victory over UT. That’s all I was trying to point out.

  82. funkadelic Says:

    Nerd fight

  83. IjustWantToWin Says:

Okay I am hearing some whining from U of L fans about the punt return fumble. Does anybody know the rule for how far away the punt team must be from the returner when he calls fair catch?

  84. Matt Jones Jr. Says:

I make more money than you volfan……

  85. macon_volfan Says:

    #85, I don’t have time for this. I have to .

  86. macon_volfan Says:

    wow, that didn’t work. Let’s try again…

#85, I don’t have time for this. I have to (insert fake, but lofty sounding job/hobby here).

  87. CalifCatFan Says:

For Petey’s sake folks, back-off of Macon Volfan. He gets a pass here. He is our token Vol fan. If he gets too riled up, he might show us more belly button photos. And trust me, you do not want to see that.

  88. WVwildcat3354 Says:

Glenn Pakulak was added to the Raiders practice squad

  89. johnisblue Says:

Look at this post from a card fan this morning. The reference to fire Brohm now that his little brother is gone is so typical of their fans.
