Morgan Newton’s Mom Speaks Out

Looks like there is a family squabble as to what Morgan will do at his announcement on Tuesday:

QB Morgan Newton (6-5 215) of Carmel, IN plans to make an announcement on his college choice Tuesday at noon at a news conference at his school his mother said Friday afternoon. “We still have a controversey with the Newton family about where he will go,” Rubie Newton said. “One place I like, one place his father likes, and one place Morgan likes. I like Clemson. We’re down to Clemson and one other. That’s all I can say right now. I know Clemson is my favorite. We all have our favorites. The favorites cross each other and over lap. He doesn’t really care. He just wants to play.” Newton narrowed his list to a final six a few weeks ago of Clemson, Indiana, Purdue, Kentucky, Illinois and Florida.

    Could you imagine?

  2. WeNeedJPBlevins Says:

    second!!lol

  3. WeNeedJPBlevins Says:

Let’s just hope his favorite is UK…

  4. Magloire the Professor Says:

Clemson? Come on, lady, let’s be real about this!

If he DOES come here, let’s hope that Mrs. Newton does not become a go-to source for behind-the-scenes info for Chip Cosby, a la Adam Chiles’s (and Alex Legion’s, and surely many others that I can’t immediately recall) mother with Jerry Tipton.

Not that I expect it from Cosby. He’s got his head screwed on a lot straighter than Tipton, at any rate.

Clemson’s been able to stockpile lots of talent in recent years, it’s true, but I think the point has been well-made (to me at least) that nobody does less with more than The Bowden.

  5. Billy G-rated Says:

Hopefully his mother will be reminded what Brooks and Co. did “with less” than Clemson in the Music City Bowl a couple years ago!

  6. Billy G-rated Says:

p.s. His mother said there was 1 place she liked, 1 place Morgan’s father liked, and 1 place Morgan liked. She then says they are down to 2 schools. I assume this means that both father and son like the same school, if the decision is down to a total of 2 schools. That may well be UK, and let’s hope majority rules in that household!

  7. nybrasky Says:

Yikes, anyway you look at that it doesn’t sound good. Too much outside influence (ala Legion) and then the fact that she says, “He doesn’t really care”. Not good. Hopefully the parents can let the kid make the best decision for him and just support that.

  8. nybrasky Says:

Also, I may be wrong on this but didn’t someone earlier in the week say they thought that he liked Florida but his dad liked UK? That could be the three.

  9. JerryTownBlotter Says:

Someone needs to take Rubie Newton out of the equation. Clemson?…are you serious. Didnt they disband their football team after losing to UK or was that just talk.

  10. mumbler Says:

Clemson just bought Kenneth Page (got pictures to prove it), So either his mom likes the protection they can offer a QB or she’s down for some of those dividends, too.

  11. mumbler Says:

The fact the he lists winning rings as a driving factor in his decision makes me think Newton is Florida’s to lose. I know I’d jump at the chance to back-up Tebow.

  12. jr braddy lives Says:

    11.)I bet you would.

  13. slappy Says:

“He doesn’t really care?” That’s a weird statement. Sounds like his mom might be a little bit of a loose cannon.

  14. mumbler Says:

12- learning from the toughest QB in football since Elway, you’re damn right I would.

Now, your plate is getting cold at the kids table in the hallway.

  15. jr braddy lives Says:

14.)Is it the table that you want to back tebow up to?

  16. joeyrupption Says:

Enough jibba jabba, will someone break out a punnett square and find the dominant school?

  17. Beatle Bum Says:

UF has its QBs of the future fighting for the no.2 job this year and waiting for their turn behind Tebow. One of them happens to be named Newton.

And, don’t you think Clemson fans expect home-grown Mr. Korn to be their QB? Or how about Parker?
Two four star QBs already familiar with the system just waiting their turn.

If he wants to compete early, it would seem competing with another true frosh would be the way to go, but then I don’t have a vote.

  18. Katfanalways Says:

All this is a smoke screen. We get him.

  19. bigblueswami Says:

I just hope the kid gets to make his own choice. #8) I read it the same way. Leaving 3 schools. BUT.. she could just be blowing smoke to cover Simpson’s dad’s comment after he signed and at least create a little drama. I guess only time will tell. I see a multiple hat trick in the future.

  20. BillyClyde4President Says:

Sorry to burst the bubbles of all the Sports Radioers but Newton is NOT coming to UK. My cousin’s best friend’s girlfriend’s brother in law’s sister’s uncle said he’s going to IU. Oh well, at least we got Mossakowski.

  21. The 5 Star Dribbler Says:

    20) The gay one?

  22. CatFan4444 Says:

Hey parents…..let you kid decide for himself!!!!!! He is playing football, not you.
#20, IU?? What a terrible possibility!!!! Overall, at least choose an SEC school.

  23. Japrick Says:

I say he picks the Cats. His dad probably wants him to go to Florida to learn from Tebow for one year, and then take over the keys to one of the best football programs ever. Morgan is looking at which system will get him better prepared for the NFL, which is not the spread. Or maybe this is all illogical but wishful thinking.
