John Wall: A Baylor Bear?

by @ 2:32 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Jody Demling just reported on his radio show that the brother of John Wall’s AAU Coach has been hired by the Baylor Bears as the new Director of Basketball Operations. It has long been thought that whichever school hired him would likely gain Wall’s services very soon after. Looks like Baylor could end up being the surprise home for Mr. Wall…..

    First.

Baylor, always remembered as the home for loads of NBA talent…oh, wait, no it isn’t

  2. 69Z Says:

Yeah, MM reported it last night. I guess Wall will get to do his thing for a year and then hit the league. Probably a good fit for him and his handlers.

  3. Chuck Norris Says:

He just wants to be THE man, and Baylor gives him that opportunity; i still think he may follow Jenning’s lead & opt for Euro ball instead of the NCAA. But if he does go to Baylor, i doubt the Cats will ever have to face him.

  4. EyewearMan Says:

Kind of sounds like Oral Roberts hiring Rotnei Clarke’s Dad… This stuff happens all the time, and it doesn’t always work out the way the school thinks it might (Rotnei now at Arkansas). Remember even Magliore’s Coach got a job at UK, and was miraculously gone after Magliore’s Senior season.

  5. AZ Blue Says:

Insane. I thought he was a sure-bet for UK last year but things change I guess..

  6. KadizKat Says:

Let’s see, not UK, then had I rather he go to a real basketball school or Baylor? Ok, Baylor in a landslide.

  7. Cyps_forehead Says:

yeah it was reported on Ink about 9am this morning that Baylor had hired him last night. Looks like they’ll end up with a hell of a PG. I was really hoping Ford would get him at OSU, but oh well.

  8. Marcs Minge Says:

Some of these posts, should have their own jingle.

  9. Captain Awesome Says:

so someone gives his coach’s brother’s friend’s neighbor a job and he goes to schol there? i just don’t get that.

  10. looking4number8 Says:

It doesn’t seem right that the business of hiring coaches to get recruits but can’t see a way around it. It is thought that Miller coming to UK had a lot to do with hiring the assistant from Illini away…

  11. EyewearMan Says:

    Oh Mr. Blue
I’m here to stay with you
And no matter what you do
    When your lonely,
    I’ll be lonely too.

  12. cat1 Says:

it kind of sounds like the same way we got Dennis Johnson

  13. BIGMONEY Says:

U guys must have forgot Baylor was good last year! This is the same as Beasley going to K state, it doesnt matter where u go , its how u perform! I could care less we got Liggins who is awesome!

  14. nybrasky Says:

10 - hiring a qualified D1 assistant coach that has connections to top recruits through recruiting is much different than hiring some recruit’s handler. Hopefully it works out for all involved and this guy won’t be leeching off Wall for his entire career.

  15. MemphisBleeksHairline Says:

    You know what..

    These recruits love to BS.

They love that attention - they are the lowest of the low.

I’d rather have someone who’s not attention starved in the first place.

    Orton is dope :)

  16. AZ Blue Says:

10, big difference with Coach Webster and Miller. Webster is a critical part of BCG’s staff and he will be there after Miller is done. It may have been the catalyst but Webster is probably the best recruiter on the staff. I am guessing Wall’s AAU coach’s brother was hired solely to land Wall.

  17. toddpacker Says:

Baylor has an up and coming team with Jerrals and some other dudes. I dont care where he goes. I just hope UK gets Orton and some other studs. I am afraid Wall will be Ed Cota, not that tahts bad, he was a good 4 year player, but not the stud people thought.

  18. Bucks_suck_go_cats Says:

its true about dennis johnson, i was an 8th grader at the same school and all everybody talked about was the package deal with the cats gettin his dad and brother before he even got there. his dad was a heck of a coach i wish he would have stayed.

  19. UKFAN26 Says:

IF wall ends up at baylor that’s fine with me (we have liggins..maybe. plus u can’t land every top player). I just hope his decsion doesn’t hurt our chances with Orton and Boyd (since they are good friends).

and if we still need a lead guard in the ‘09 class, we could go after darius morris. morris isn’t jon wall, but he’s still a GREAT player, and he’s interested in UK.

  20. The 5 Star Dribbler Says:

Wall’s jersey should One & Done.

  21. jr braddy lives Says:

i’m glad he isnt going to mempiss.

  22. sortleader2 Says:

I’ll start some sh*t in 3-2-1: Sounds like Lexington Catholic or Scott Co. recruiting tactics?

  23. they_live Says:

I’d say it happens less in basketball than it does in football.

  24. they_live Says:

#22 - If it is a private school then they should be able to recruit students as well as student athletes. If it’s public, it’s where you live but then again millions of kids in this country go to school outside of their district. My kid doesn’t go to the school we are zoned for because there is a school that is actually closer to our house and we like it better, but it is still out of our zone.
