Short and Insufficient Profile: Shane McCord

by @ 4:00 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

OK, so, during the dragging, sweaty, uncomfortable months of summer, we flippantly mentioned that we would be profiling every player on the team. It will only be fun and worthwhile, we decided, if we were both informative AND funny. Well, it would be really fun if we were drunk the entire time, but that’s neither here nor there. Thus, for these ten weeks leading up to the UL game, we will have at least one profile a day. We hope you enjoy these as much as we enjoyed the idea of doing them, but not the actual task. Oh, and we see the egregious “that’s what she said” in the headline.

We’d also like to use this italicized space to apologize to the families of the players whose last names end in ‘A’ or ‘B’ because these early ones might suck a little.

Year–SO

Position–Defensive Tackle

Hometown–Hartwell, GA (Hart County)

Unfair comparison to NFL-er: Vincent “Sweet Pea” Burns.  Both are from Georgia, and I miss Sweet Pea.

Most interesting fact from his media guide bio: Played soccer his freshman year of high school before switching to track and field…MAN ON!

Something we made up about him: Is related to both Shane Boyd and Quentin McCord.

Items of legitimate interest: Chose the Wildcats over Clemson.  He is cousins and former high school teammates with Sam Maxwell.  Was one of only six true freshmen to see playing time last season.  In high school, was a letterman in powerlifting, track and field, and football and also won a national scholar-athlete award.  Was the 27th best prospect out of Georgia and 60th best DT in the nation according to Scout.

Outlook for 2008, based on light research by our minions: Listed at second-string behind Myron Pryor.  Should be a household name for the next couple years and a reason why the defense for the future looks very bright.
