If you are like me (and surely you are), then this weekend means one thing….the release of The Dark Knight. I have been looking forward to this movie since the first picture of the new and improved Joker was released to the public and nothing in the following months has dampened that anticipation one bit. Mix in the fact that the Batman series has been generally stellar (really only the Clooney-Ahnold picture was awful), that Christian Bale may have even passed Michael “I’m Batman” Keaton on the Batman ratings scale and the fact that the last one was genuinely well-written and very interesting, and you have a movie that has all the ingredients of success. Early critics’ comments are through the roof good, with many suggesting that an Oscar may be in store for Heath Ledger. Since Ledger’s unfortunate death, the anticipation has only increased for a performance that ultimately will (along with Brokeback Mountain) be his career-defining film. His passing has made a movie that most want to see, into a movie that EVERYONE wants to see.
I expect Batman to break every record for a 3-day opening in history this weekend. I will be there (likely on Sunday) to see the happening and I expect a buzz unlike any other for a film in sometime. Are you going….and if not, are you a terrorist?

I’ll be there Friday or Sunday. A co-worker of mine said he’s not interested in seeing it because Ledger was in Brokeback Mountain. I want to have my co-worker institutionalized.

The opening record is $151,116,516 from Spider-Man 3 and I am pumped for this one.
The opening record for July is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest which opened up to $135,634,554
I’m seeing it this weekend and rewatching Batman Begins tomorrow.
It’s showing at a record 4366 theatres and I expect it to bring in no less than 130.
July 17th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
I’ll be there with a video camera taping it Seinfeld style.
July 17th, 2008 at 3:45 pm

Why in the world is this site running a promo for this gay movie? Is Matt a primary investor in the film?
If you want to watch fags dress up in colorful outfits, spandex, masks and face paint… go to a tranny bar.
July 17th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
I bought my tickets this afternoon to see it. Cinema 16 (I think that’s what it’s called) on Preston; I’m pretty excited about it.
July 17th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
No matter how good he is as The Joker, the movie that defines his career is the one in which he let another man have sex with his butt (or vice-versa).
$211 million, mark it Donnie.
July 17th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
The bootlegged first six minutes is pure awesomeness.
Matt, Batman Forever with Kilmer was pretty bad as well. Chris O’Donnell is just terrible.
July 17th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
I did like Jim Carrey as the Riddler though….that was the movie’s saving grace
July 17th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
Matt, you’re not saying Bale is better than Adam West are you?
July 17th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Actually, Aqua Man, starring Vincent Chase, beat Spiderman 3. USA Today even took out a full-page ad!
July 17th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
And if it werent for the rolling blackouts, Aquaman does even better….
July 17th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Gonna be there Sunday!!!!!!! Your gay jokes are very lame. This will be one of the best movies in the last ten years!
July 17th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
lmao, there is a BATMAN ad on the right as I am typing! Batman Begins was better than all the previous movies! I loved the story and Bale did a great job capturing the essense of Bruce Wayne…. My vote is for Ashley Judd to be the next CAT WOMAN! We all know she BLEEDS BLUE!
July 17th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
200+ million is lofty, bigbooyah. I’m thinkin 160 mil.
“you think the carpetpissers did this?”
Dark Knight looks like the best one yet. Bale as batman is perfect and I’ve always been a huge fan of Ledger’s acting (even though he did some crap…ahem…First Knight…ahem). He was incredible in Monster’s Ball.
July 17th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
There are only 2 good batman movies. The first one and batman begins. The others are horrible.
I’m betting this one is going to be pretty good.
July 17th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Gotta study for the bar exam. Can that be a reason I’m not going?????????
July 17th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Going to a 7PM Sneak Preview at local theater tonight….:)
July 17th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
“Dammitt why cant I quit you ?” Good one 16- Man I really didnt enjoy the last season of Enterouge. I hated Billy, and Emmanuelle Chriqui or whatever wasnt on there nearly enough. I hate to say it but my favorite show The Wire sucked a little.
July 17th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
I’m seeing it tonight at midnight! Gonna be a good ole time
July 17th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
The seasons without drug dealers suck on the Wire. 1, 3 are the best 2 was good. The schools season was mediocre and politics season blew it.
July 17th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
I hope the new batman FAILS MISERABLY!
July 17th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Just got back from seeing it. Ledger is amazing as the The Joker and special effects are second to none,it a must see..IMO.
July 17th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
I’ll be seeing it in about an hour and a half at the Fayette Mall theater in Lex.
This thing will smash records, by all indications. I went to get my tickets last night (a full day before the midnight showings), and was told out of the 6 screens they’re showing it on (SIX!!?), there were like five tickets left. That’s just ridiculous, even with schools all out.
I think the long running time will turn off some people, but I saw the Lord of the Rings films more than a dozen times combined in theaters, and they were over three hours each, so I’m all set.
Gonna be a hell of a movie.

19) It was Knight’s Tale, not First Knight. First Knight was that crap with Richard Gere as Lancelot, and Sean Connery as King Arthur. I actually liked Knight’s Tale, but I knew what I was getting. Also like Thirteenth Warrior, and most people hate hate hate it.
Ledger did some real crap, including “The Order”, but I’ve been watching his stuff since he did Roar on tv, back when Fox was just starting to cancel good shows. I’ve not seen Brokeback, because it just doesn’t interest me to watch a bunch of gay cowboys sit around eating chocolate pudding, but I’ll probably rent the Bob Dylan thing he did eventually.
You’re probably about right on 160 mil, though if it does more, well, a lot of people are seeing it tonight and will be telling their friends, so it wouldn’t surprise me.
July 18th, 2008 at 3:12 am
Just got back from seeing it. One word = Awesome.
July 18th, 2008 at 3:44 am
It was everything I hoped it would be
July 18th, 2008 at 8:26 am
I am so Pump to see Dark Knight: I am going to Movie Tavern in Lexington and can not wait.
July 18th, 2008 at 8:53 am
Saw the Movie last night @ Woodhill with all the Die Hard batman fans. Great time and a great movie. Everything I expected and more. What a great performance for Ledger to go out on. This movie will break every record in the book Fayette mall had 7 showings at midnight all sold out. Woodhill had 6 I think and they were all sold out too
July 18th, 2008 at 9:39 am
I still don’t think this will touch the first Batman… Jack Nicholson as the Joker was fantastic awesome!! Jack has at least 10 quotes in the movie that are great!
July 18th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Christian Bale is by far the best Batman to date. not even a competition.
July 18th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
It was one of the few movies I’ve ever seen that lived up to the hype and maybe surpassed it.
