[Moderated by Matt Jones, Drew Franklin and Tyler Thompson]

Here is a little secret. I hate sports talk radio…virtually all of it. While I like Tony Kornheiser and in a pinch, will listen to Jim Rome, the average sports talk radio host makes me want to throw a punch at Bryan the Intern. With that in mind, I have long thought that Colin Cowherd embodies the worst of the sports talk radio host personality. Have strong opinions on everything…speak in absolutes…get people worked up just for the sake of doing it…and talk with 100% confidence about things you know nothing about. Case in point, today when Cowherd blasted John Wall on his show. He said that Wall was a “selfish” player, along the lines of Allen Iverson and Steve Francis because (get this), he danced during the player introductions last night. Leaving aside the fact that he just timed the ALL-TIME NBA RECORD FOR ASSISTS in a player’s first three games, Wall is now apparently selfish because he did the Dougie during introductions.
This is why I would rather have to wear Dick Gabriels’ former goatee than listen to ESPN Radio on a daily basis. Cowherd ignores the fact that his favorite player (Lebron) has done the same thing many times in the past and conveniently refuses to do any research on Wall as a player or person. While at Kentucky, he was beloved by teammates, coaches and fans, while not causing any person I ever heard to label him as “selfish.” But to Cowherd it is irrelevant….because he is a blowhard and has to have something to talk about.
If you would prefer a different type of radio show, one where the dominant topic was what topics would make a good “Free Enes or this occurring” type debate, then listen to our radio show below. It is much better for the soul:

SUCK IT Cowherd !!!
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:04 pm
I wouldn’t let Cowherd lick my dog’s b@lls.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:05 pm
Cowherd is a complete tool! His show is the National Inquirer of sports show.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:05 pm
7_0_ 7_0_ 7_0_ 7_0_ ….. Do Da John Wall
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:08 pm
JT really needs to get into the voiceover business. Matt I think people would pay $$$ just to buy an app with a soundboard of his voice lol
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:08 pm
There is NOTHING going on in the sports world. All Cowherd is doing is baiting a passionate fan base in to give him something to talk or rail against. Settle down, just don’t frequent his radio or TV show. That is the best punishment.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:09 pm
If we gave him no attention he’d go away faster.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:10 pm
Cowherd, nothing new or original on his show. I quit listening 2-3 years ago. Flipping through the channels the other day and happened upon his show. I would have sworn it was from 2 years ago. Makes the same arguements and never anything has anything original to say.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:10 pm
Treat Cowherd as you would your common internet troll: Ignore him and he’ll go away. Please don’t lend him credence by discussing him.
As for ESPN Radio, I like listening to Mike and Mike and Scott Van Pelt, but usually turn it off for Cowherd and Doug Gottlieb (woe be unto this world if Gottlieb and Cowherd procreated. THERE’S your Antichrist.)
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:11 pm
that NBA record through 3 games is just among rookies in history…still very impressive though
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:12 pm
John Wall is the most selfish player in Wizards history, he stole the ball from the other team 9 times (tying a record)last night. Bet he even tried to score after he stole it, how rude.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:13 pm
I love Colin. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. This one thing isn’t going to make me hate him. In the fact I agree there are a lot of people out there in the sports media who want to see UK fail. I don’t believe Colin is one of those people but bad mouthing him like this will only turn him against us. Is Colin misinformed about John Wall? obviously, but he is just trying to talk about something on a very slow sports day.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:13 pm
STOP referring to him as “Cowherd” on this site for now and forever. It’s now “Colon” (like your intestine) “Cowturd”.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:13 pm
So Matt, do you hate your own sports radio show?
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:13 pm
Agreed. Cowherd is the worst. On your other point about what would make a good Free Enes, i just think if he does indeed get Freed we need to start the “Fear Enes” movement. That’s all i got.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:14 pm
The worst is 1300AM Sports Huddle with Chris Cross and Mike Cameron…they are the most uninformed, off track, cluster screw of a show, plus they have a former DUKE reporter on there who is horrible – cant remember his name
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:14 pm
11….i agree. what an a$$hole
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:16 pm
Colin has been a douche bag for a long time.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:16 pm
It was apparent from the video that Wall’s teammates were enjoying his intro dance too.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:19 pm
Cowterd is a complete tool! His show is the National Inquirer of sports talk radio.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:26 pm
ever since KSR has been back on the radio I forgot Cowherd was on during that slot. cowherd makes sean hannity look rational.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:27 pm
#16…Oh yeah..you think Im that bad..Why dont you come on over Hee’…and I’ll have Mikeey and Matthew Lawrence beat you with Steepleton Billards and Spas pool cues and then shove a Firehouse Meatball right down you throat while i watch from my new Jack Kain Ford pickup truck.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:28 pm
I’ve ALWAYS said that John Wall can’t Dougie and I’ve said this for YEARS. Reasonable people know that I’m right and the rest of you are wrong!
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:30 pm
I did the Dougie at my victory party last night
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:34 pm
Cowherd = Twat
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:35 pm
Free Enes or complete KSR site makeover by the best of the best in networking, completely free of charge of course?
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:37 pm
i wouldn’t call the dance selfish, but it was a bit too long in my opinion..a little over thirty one seconds to be exact..colin is not the only guy in the national media that is calling john wall out on the dance..it’s not selfish, but just a little too long
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:44 pm
If I was Wall, I would tell all the haters to kiss my rich ass
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:45 pm
Let him enjoy himself. Lebron wants to play “get rid of the coke, it’s the cops” so why can’t Wall dance. If he keeps up the 30 sec intro, then someone should say something. If he needs help cutting down the time, he can call Pitino….nuff said.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:47 pm
So its not considered flashy when Danny Green and Lebron do it?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G0wPTUZvak
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:48 pm
More predictable, transparent, sycophantic behavior from Matt.
“Have strong opinions on everything…speak in absolutes…get people worked up just for the sake of doing it…”
LOL, are you describing yourself or Cowherd?
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:48 pm
Sports radio with co-hosts can be OK (sometimes). You get actual discussions, you get different viewpoints, you get a certain level of intelligence (host-dependent, as your mileage may vary).
Sports radio with a host flying solo tends to be a barrage of idiocy. Its egocentric to begin with, and often relies on the host having really strong, confrontational opinions, often on topics he’s clearly under-informed, or even clueless about.
Cowherd represents the worst of this. He’s a complete moron, proud of how abrasive he is (because it pulls in the ratings and makes him big bank).
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:49 pm
12) Turn him against us? He’s already referred to us as “goobers,” and has on more than one occasion dissed Cal, where u been?
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:51 pm
” Have strong opinions on everything…speak in absolutes…get people worked up just for the sake of doing it…and talk with 100% confidence about things you know nothing about”
Sounds like Matt Jones to a tee here
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:51 pm
Anyone see van pelt talk to wall on sportscenter about it and wall said the wizards asked him to do it to get the crowd into it and it obviously worked.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:53 pm
Cowherd praised Rondo over and over again. He doesn’t hate UK. He just thought 9 turnovers were too much for Wall.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:54 pm
He also said it was only for the home opener not a continual thing
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:55 pm
FYI- Was listening to Jim Rome. He talked about it too and basically said he liked it and he can have some fun if he can back it up on the court, which he did..
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:55 pm
Cowterd is an ONION head!
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:57 pm
22….just about laughed myself out of my chair.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:59 pm
36 ) It wasnt just the tunovers… he said he’s selfish, in the mold of Iverson and Marbury. Said he would never win a ring because he is all about himself. Everyone is entitled to their opinion… until they get in the way of facts.
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:00 pm
Ah, and he also said he isn’t the brightest kid… once again, a personal attack from an arrogant prick.
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:04 pm
I think of Cowherd as Iron Sheik thinks of Chris Benoit…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuZMEU2gOvA&feature=related
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:04 pm
Anyone else think Cowherder’s voice sounds like he’s always drooling, just a little bit? It’s like he took a big sip of water before he had to talk, and didn’t have time to to swallow it all, so there’s some sloshing around with every “s” word. It makes my skin crawl.
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:05 pm
@44 hate to double post, but I mean on the radio. He sounds more human on SN.
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:07 pm
It’s beyond me how someone like Cowherd can get hired in the first place….let alone keep a job
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:20 pm
id have to agree with 34! Plus his co anchor on the other show if hot! Sorry MJ
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:22 pm
Sports Nation
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:38 pm
#43 anyone else think I look like Randy Quaid from national lampoon’s vacation?
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:40 pm
The Sheik is drunk, and I was the greatest Intercontinental Champ ever!!!!
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:47 pm
Don’t comment here all that often, but I am curious to know how Jim Rome doesn’t fall under the category of having strong opinions on everything, speaking in absolutes, getting people worked up just for the sake of doing it, and talking with 100% confidence about things he knows nothing about? I think he’s far and away the most grating “personality” in sports.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Also, I hope all this talk of Cowherd doesn’t bring him here. I’ll not visit a site that smells like penis breath.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:04 pm
Coward is just another dumb liberal, elitist hippy living in California thinking he knows about sports when the only thing he cares about is baseball and baseball sucks anyway. He’s nothing more than a sports shock jock and probably voted on prop 19 during last night. He despises the mid-west, south and east coast probably because those areas are better in sports than the west coast.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:10 pm
… and the funny thing today was at the end of his show, Cowherd was SLAMMING Randy Moss for Moss’s apparent break-out into the world of food critic. Cowherd went onto say he “doesn’t like it when people criticize people in front of other people”, he said, “having an opinion about food and berating that person for what you think is bad food and making it personal, are two different things”… Which is EXACTLY what he did today re: John Wall. He not only said John Wall was a “selfish player” and is an “all about me” type person, he also actually said John Wall “isn’t smart enough to be the pointguard or ‘QB equivalent’ on a championship NBA team”. Cowherd has never been one of my favorites,,, and now,,, I’ll not listen again.
FREE ENES!!!
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:11 pm
Question #1: Why does anyone listen to this guy? Just another media idiot who stirs the pot for hits/conversation.
Question #2: Why should anyone care what he thinks/says–does he provide any meaningful contribution? The evidence suggests “no.” Let’s move on; nothing to see here.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:15 pm
53: Wow. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
I will have to say that I enjoy his radio show much more than many other shows out there. I do, however think he is off base in some of his judgments of Wall. If he would dig further he would see that Wall is not a bad kid nor an unintelligent or selfish kid.
With that said I will also say that the intro that Wall had was way out of hand in my opinion. I really find it weird to see people on here defending it as well. If this was done by a NC, Duke, UCLA, KU or any other school’s player it would be ridiculed to no end. He danced for 34 seconds on his intro. If that is not a “look at me, look at me” act then I don’t know what is.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:24 pm
53) that may be the dumbest thing i’ve ever read…bashing baseball makes people feel cool for some reason..I guess because it doesn’t take any thought to bash a sport that takes skill and intelligence. Go watch cars go around in a circle for 2 hours. Also Cowherd bashes baseball constantly, so maybe you two have more in common than you thought.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:27 pm
This morning I did the dougie for 4 minutes & 13 seconds.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:34 pm
Cowherd is like an annoying little chihuahua dog, and his voice even sounds like one. Yip-Yip-Yip-Yip all day long, thinking he is a big dog in a small lot.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:49 pm
well said. i like him sometimes, but he goes over the top at least once per week on a hunch or something that he thinks will get mixed reviews. He also will not let anyone finish a sentence or be heard and constantly hangs up on callers if they make a solid point if it goes against his thinking.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Kentucky Sports Radio is not a bastion for sports talk radio either. Listen to Big EZ laugh at all of Matt’s jokes is getting a little old.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:53 pm
After Cutler left the radio show with Chris Cross the Lexington sports radio void has grown by the second. Listen to it once and you have heard every past and future episode. “Nay nay I’ve got Gabe and Big RIg on the line to hear me talk Yankees and Mr. Reinsdorf and talk about our sponsors when I’m not playing commercials of myself promoting them…”
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:16 pm
Matt, Thought your legal training would have kept you from falling for Colin’s bait.He makes his living by suckering fans into becoming fanatics all in good fun-ask the OSU and ND fanbase-you’ve been slimed!
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:27 pm
uhhhh yea….jim rome embodies everything u described in that paragraph…at least cowherd can be funny
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Just to get this right Rondo not Wall tied the assist record for the first 3 NBA games of the year and he set the all-time record for the first 4 games. Wall is special however and his 9 steals in a game tied the Wizard franchise record. We have a couple of great point guards in the NBA and there will be more in the future.
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:14 pm
Time will vindicate Wall and Karma will surely bust Cowherd’s ass. Moving on….
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:23 pm
I love listening to the Herd.
Matt, you did exactly as he wanted- took one of his takes designed to fire people up and got mad about it. Jokes on you. You just helped a show you despise.
November 3rd, 2010 at 6:56 pm
65, exactly. Could you imagine Rondo if Calipari had him? Man I wish Cal would have taken over when our ’04 class came in. We shoulda been a lot better. Bradley said himself Tubby didnt develop.
November 3rd, 2010 at 7:15 pm
Matt I’m with 14… there’s just something strange about you hating to listen to others who do the same thing you love to do. It don’t add up.
November 3rd, 2010 at 7:42 pm
I remember one day when Gottlieb went on a rant about how stupid Cowherd was. Oh the irony
November 3rd, 2010 at 8:12 pm
65… Wall set the NBA record for assists in one’s first three games (i.e., rookie record). So, Wall did set an NBA record, albeit one of those Bob Uecker statistics.
November 3rd, 2010 at 8:51 pm
Cowherd’s a loudmouth douchebag. NEVER HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:44 pm
COWTURD IS A JAG OFF
November 4th, 2010 at 12:57 am
Dude, you are sports talk radio. Check out the name of your site… Kentucky Sports Radio…
November 4th, 2010 at 9:19 am
Cowherd is NOT meant to be taken seriously! I listened to his radio show every day when he first joined ESPN (I miss ESPN Radio in Louisville!) and he used to announce that every once-in-a-while. Now, he’s just embraced that hatred factor, because people like us get so worked up and it’s good for ratings. He does this on purpose, and I think he’s entertaining. He’s not a threat, he’s just that buddy that always says the most outlandish things to get the group to laugh or cringe, and it works, because we’re obviously discussing him!
November 5th, 2010 at 1:07 pm
This dude really sux! How does this show even exist? I mean he is a complete idiot!!! This dude plays the most important position on the floor and all he has done is lead all rookies in points, assist, and he leads the league in steals (4 steals a game) come on man, but this is what he had to say about the dude? I wasn’t surprised at all because he never seems to know he is talking about and I hear undertones from him all the time.
